WSU Full Steam Ahead card is complete

Women Superstars Uncensored has been rearranging furniture since being taken over by Beyond Wrestling following the Uncensored Rumble V iPPV back in June.

At the time, we gave our initial impressions of the acquisition, and also spoke to new owner Drew Cordiero as part of episode 42 of the Women Of Wrestling Podcast – and left feeling impressed with the direction being taken, especially since we had issues in the past with small attendance numbers and poor production of the iPPVs. Next month, WSU returns to Deer Park, NY for its first card under the Beyond Wrestling umbrella as part of three events over the span of one day – with one of those being an interpromotional show, followed by the comeback WSU event, entitled Full Steam Ahead. Ringbelles Roundup (7 August 2012) – Wrestlers Rescue, Dawn Marie, BLOW & more

Former WWE and ECW personality Dawn Marie seems to have a good heart. Setting up Wrestlers Rescue in 2008 (and the subsequent Pro Wrestlers Relief) in 2009, her goal was to make life easier for wrestlers with medical issues to help them pay their bills – a common problem for wrestlers outside of WWE who may not be able to secure the proper insurance needed to cover their ailments.

In the last week or so, her charity has received a battering from James “Kamala” Harris, who has had both of his legs amputated due to complications stemming from diabetes and high blood pressure. He claims that Wrestlers Rescue and Boston-based independent wrestling promotion the Millennium Wrestling Federation promised to help him out financially, and never did so, calling Dawn Marie “no good” and accusing her of keeping the money that was raised for him.

Wrestlers Rescue has not had the best of reputations in its short existence, but following this high-profile attack on her work, Dawn Marie decided to go public with all the details. (more…)

That’s far from all on the show, as we get a potentially show-stealing matchup between Sara Del Rey and Hailey Hatred – both rightly recognised as two of the absolute best in the world today. Courtney Rush makes her AIW debut, taking on Veda Scott – who has a history of strong performances at these GNO events, while Ohio’s own Sassy Stephie welcomes another Canadian, Leah Von Dutch – who is also making her GNO debut in singles action. nCw Femmes Fatales IX results

A big card of action takes place tonight in Montreal, Quebec, Canada as nCw Femmes Fatales IX strikes. The International Championship is on the line, a grudge spanning two promotions could be settled, and the most fearsome trio in women’s wrestling today head north of the border.

Current titleholder Kalamity faces her toughest test yet when she faces the challenge of Sara Del Rey, while former champion LuFisto takes on Mercedes Martinez following their brawl at Femmes Fatales VIII in March and subsequent encounter at WSU’s Uncensored Rumble V last month, where LuFisto cost Martinez the WSU Championship in the main event Casket Match against Jessicka Havok. And speaking of Havok, she and her Midwest Militia partners Sassy Stephie and Allysin Kay take on Courtney Rush and two mystery partners.

Elsewhere, Kc Spinelli meets former SHIMMER Champion Cheerleader Melissa, Sweet Cherrie and Cherry Bomb take on the Canadian Ninjas of Portia Perez and Nicole Matthews with the winners earning SHIMMER Tag Team Championship match at Femmes Fatales X on November 3 against whoever the titleholders are at that time. Click after the jump for a look at the matches, and we will update them as we get word, courtesy of Pat Laprade, who is in attendance at the show. (more…)

A good half year for… Allysin Kay

“AK-47. The very best there is.
When you absolutely, positively got to kill every motherfucker in the room, accept no substitutes.”
(Ordell Robbie, Jackie Brown, 1997)

Spotlighting wrestlers for this “good half year” series isn’t easy – everybody has an opinion and everybody has different criteria when choosing. For me, one of my biggest criteria was to choose people who are in a better position now than they were in January – and on that basis alone, Allysin Kay was right at the top of my list. Surely an early contender for our year-end breakout star of the year award, Kay has been riding a major wave of upward momentum this year, collecting title belts and plaudits wherever she has gone. Make no mistake, 2012 has seen the woman nicknamed “AK-47” go from a supporting role to a burgeoning star in her own right. (more…)

Ringbelles Roundup (12 June 2012)

It’s the end of an era as far as Women Superstars Uncensored is concerned on Saturday. At the conclusion of the Uncensored Rumble V iPPV from Deer Park, NY, the WSU founder Sean McCaffrey will hand over the reins to another group, described to us as a promotion which is as major as an indie promotion can be.

A month ago, WSU made the announcement that it had been sold to an “independent buyer”, but the initial buyer was said to have fallen through, with other options being explored. Clearly, one of those options paid off, as everything has been sorted out ahead of the Uncensored Rumble, where we will all find out just who has acquired the promotion.

It is an uncertain period though, as there is no guarantee that the new owners will share the same vision of WSU. There is a possibility that things will progress as planned, but there is also a chance that whoever Is taking over will have new ideas and suggestions for storylines and talent, so there could be some shake-ups to come too. WSU’s outlook may change over time, but it is unlikely that if there will be any alterations, they won’t happen immediately. After all, the fans are the ones who finance things in the long run, and to make changes immediately and in a big fashion could be too jarring to the WSU faithful and possibly drive them away. Much more likely would be a subtle movement in direction to enhance what already exists.

Courtney Rush challenges the Midwest Militia

It is probably the most mouth watering prospect in the whole working relationship with Women Superstars Uncensored and nCw Femmes Fatales: the Midwest Militia heading north of the border for Femmes Fatales IX in Montreal, Quebec to take on what Canada has to offer.

Comprised of the WSU World and Spirit Champion Jessicka Havok and Tag Team Champions Allysin Kay and Sassy Stephie, the Militia have had their way in the New York/New Jersey area over the past six months, taking on and getting the best of the promotion’s most popular stars like Mercedes Martinez, Brittney Savage and Alicia. On July 7 – following the arrival of Femmes Fatales in WSU at the Uncensored Rumble V on June 16 when Kalamity takes on Sweet Cherrie – the Militia will work as a triumvirate in what is being described as a 6-Woman Awesome Fight against a team which is yet to be fully revealed, but we know who the captain will be – Winnipeg’s Courtney Rush,.

In a new video released by Femmes Fatales yesterday evening, Rush points out that she was the one who went to nCw to request a match against the trio of terror with a hand-picked team called the Rush Revolution, and said she would be keeping their identities a secret for now, though she does reveal that Sara Del Rey would not be one of them, as her SHIMMER Tag Team Championship partner is taking on Kalamity that night for the International Championship. She also compares herself to a rottweiler, though you should click the jump and find out for yourself what she means by that… (more…)

WSU: WTF?

While we updated last night’s Women Superstars Uncensored double DVD tapings (click here for results) featuring the J-Cup and Jessicka Havok v Mercedes Martinez, among others, our Twitter and Facebook accounts were flooded with comments about the booking. Messages we received included terms such as ‘confused’, ‘silly’, ‘pointless’ and ‘ridiculous’. Because of these references, as well as the official release from WSU, we felt there was enough to dive into the debate and release a few feelings of our own.

First though, a recap…

Brittney Savage won the J-Cup for the second year running, defeating Ezavel Suena, Annie Social and Athena to take the tournament and earn a WSU Championship match on the subsequent DVD taping.
Allysin Kay and Sassy Stephie held onto the Tag Team Championship by defeating the team that they beat to win the belts in the first place, Jana and Luscious Latasha.
Tina San Antonio defeated Marti Belle in an Uncensored Rules match after bleeding all over the place following being hit in the head with a bottle.
• Martinez regained the WSU Championship by beating Havok, who lost the belt on her first defence. Havok’s foot was under the bottom rope, which caused her much anger when the result stood. The loss was also Havok’s first in singles competition in the promotion.
• Havok destroyed Marti Belle to retain the Spirit Championship.
• Queen of the Ring Jennifer Cruz beat Jana to remain undefeated in 2012.
Alicia defeated Allysin Kay, causing another blip in the Midwest Militia‘s dominance.
• After defeating Athena, Rain promised to retire if she could not win the Uncensored Rumble on June 16. Earlier in the show, Lexxus promised to win the Rumble for the second straight year.
• Savage v Martinez for the WSU Title became a triple threat when Havok invoked her rematch clause and won the belt by pinning Martinez after Savage nailed the titleholder with a diamond cutter, but was thwarted by Stephie.

So they are the talking points – after the jump, we’ll look at who has benefited and who has suffered… (more…)

WSU J-Cup DVD taping results

Women Superstars Uncensored return for their second shows of the month with the double DVD taping, taking in the annual J-Cup tournament. Tina San Antonio takes on former partner Marti Belle in an Uncensored Rules match, Jana pulling double duty by taking on WSU Queen of the Ring Jennifer Cruz, as well as teaming with Luscious Latasha to challenge Allysin Kay and Sassy Stephie for the Tag Team Championship, while fellow Midwest Militia member Jessicka Havok makes her first defence of the WSU Championship against former titleholder Mercedes Martinez.

Unfortunately, the show has been hit with a snag, as J-Cup participant Christina Von Eerie had flight issues, so she is out, and has been replaced by promising rookie Kimber Lee. The other participants are Alicia, Brittney Savage, Annie Social, Athena, Lexxus, Ezavel Suena & Nikki Syxx.

Allysin Kay becomes Champion at Girls Night Out 6

Against a backdrop of reported financial problems (spawning the twitter hashtag of #saveaiw), Ohio’s Absolute Intense Wrestling presented the sixth edition of their popular “Girls Night Out” series from Turners Hall, Cleveland, OH. You can get yourself up to date on what’s going on with AIW’s women’s division with website reviews of Girls Night Out 4 & 5, our exclusive Women of Wrestling Podcast with former AIW Women’s Champion Mickie Knuckles and our recent Fight Like A Girl audio show with debutante Taeler Hendrix.

Main-evented by Allysin Kay and Mia Yim, their rematch stemmed from GNO5′s nose-breaking incident which resulted in an unsanctioned no-rules grudge match for the currently vacant AIW Absolute Women’s Championship – a title held most recently by Knuckles. Click through to after the cut the results, collated courtesy of David Muscarella… (more…)

Jennifer Cruz becomes Queen of WSU

Jennifer Cruz‘s push up the Women Superstars Uncensored ranks continues after she and partner Mike Dennis won the King and Queen of the Ring tournament in collaboration with National Wrestling Superstars in Dunnellen, NJ, defeating Johnny Knockout & Jana in the final. The win also means that Cruz remains undefeated in WSU competition, and could see her surge toward a title opportunity.

Also on the card, Jessicka Havok‘s first WSU contest since winning the promotion’s top championship saw her successfully defend the Spirit Championship against Marti Belle, which also served to forward the ongoing feud between Belle and former tag team championship partner Tina San Antonio, while Havok’s Midwest Militia teammates Allysin Kay & Sassy Stephie held onto the Tag Team Titles by defeating Alicia and Brittney Savage.

Ringbelles Roundup (13 March 2012)

Reports from Montreal, Quebec, Canada on Saturday say that the most recent instalment of NCW Femmes Fatales was the best yet. With a 25 minute draw between Cheerleader Melissa and Hailey Hatred, Jazz and Lufisto tearing up the building and Kalamity securing her first International Title defence on a FF show over Mercedes Martinez, all three of the main event matches delivered. Groundwork was also laid for Femmes Fatales IX on July 7, and a number of the talking points have relevance to the FF/Women Superstars Uncensored relationship…

First off, there was the announcement that the Midwest Militia of WSU’s dual champion Jessicka Havok and Tag Team Champions Allysin Kay and Sassy Stephie will appear in July. For Kay and Havok, it will being their debut in the promotion, while Stephie wrestled at Femmes Fatales IV. As the most over talent, it seemed logical that the Militia would be part of this talent-sharing initiative, and as a trio, it lends itself to an invasion-style storyline with three badass heels walking into another promotion, and it’s unlikely that the Militia will be out to make friends. Before that happens though, three homegrown FF talents – Kalamity, LuFisto (who were announced during the 5th Anniversary iPPV) and Sweet Cherrie (who was named afterward) – will make their WSU debuts at the Uncensored Rumble on June 16, so the Militia will see their north-of-the-border opposition before making the trip to Canada three weeks later.

However, don’t expect it to be like the old USA/Canada storylines from the WWF in 1997 where talent would be faces OR heels depending on which country they’re wrestling in, as the Militia are already the top heels in WSU, so they are unlikely to be cheered by the WSU fans if a confrontation between them and Kalamity, Cherrie and LuFisto takes place in Deer Park, NY, and they are sure to be booed in Montreal at FF IX. Of course, this is all speculation, as nothing has been announced beyond the names who will be appearing, but this is what fantasy booking is all about. It would be a shame for there to be this overlapping without there being some in-ring friction to spice things up. (more…)

Ringbelles Roundup (6 March 2012)

So, Jessicka Havok ascended to the top of Women Superstars Uncensored’s mountain on Saturday night by winning the promotion’s top championship from Mercedes Martinez at the 5th Anniversary Show, making her an undefeated Champion and putting an end to Martinez’ reign four days shy of the three year mark. In a match that was a wild brawl of a war more than a technical affair, it was unconventional, but successful. The pair fought all over the building and took some crazy bumps along the way – the Fisherman Buster from the apron through the table to the concrete floor being the height of the lunacy. No doubt, Havok was given the best springboard that she could possibly get for the start of her reign, and Martinez pulled out everything to give her that launch.

The ending was somewhat of a head-scratcher, with both going through a table from the top rope but Havok managing to get the pin, but I imagine the idea is that it shows just how evenly matched the two are and a draped arm was the only thing that could separate them. However, having a slightly more decisive match-ending move may have sweetened things slightly – though at this point I’m splitting hairs on what was a great main event, and also an early contender for Match of the Year.

Many have described the 5th Anniversary show their best iPPV to date. Having seen most of them, it would be hard to disagree with that. When it came to aesthetics, things went well – most of the direction was good, the cameramen were in the right place for most of the stuff (barring a couple of incidents, which I’ll get to) and the graphics and editing went well. As a TV product, it was the sharpest yet. And there was a boob toss. Nothing more to be said about it really, but I felt it just HAD to be mentioned. (more…)

Ringbelles Roundup (28 February 2012)

It’s that time of year again.

March is almost upon us, and women’s wrestling in North America is coming out of hibernation, all invigorated, revived and ready to unleash a shedload of matches upon us, the wrestling fan. Coming up later this month, we have nCw Femmes Fatales and SHIMMER, as well as matches in promotions like POWW, AIW, RCW, NWA Houston, NWA Ring Warriors and more, but we start off on the east coast this Saturday with Women Superstars Uncensored’s 5th Year Anniversary in Deer Park, NY…

Among some of the undercard matches worth noting include two J-Cup qualifiers for April featuring Annie Social against April Hunter and Leva Bates meeting Athena in a rematch from last year’s WSU Anniversary show – which was won by Athena with her O-Face top rope stunner. Elsewhere, Lexxus pulls double duty for the second iPPV in a row when she faces rival Rain in a singles battle, but also has to select a new Tag Team Championship partner to face Jana and Luscious Latasha, after her Boston Shore teammate Amber bowed out of wrestling because of “personal demons” – a phrase which wrestling fans are ever so familiar with. In addition, the former Tag Team Champions Marti Belle and Tina San Antonio do battle after months of circling around each other in a storyline that actually began a year ago when Tina was “attacked” before the 4th Anniversary, only for it to come out months later as being a big fake, while Belle chose Jazz as a partner to win the vacant championships.

The big undercard contest pits two thirds of the Midwest Militia – Sassy Stephie and Allysin Kay – meeting Brittney Savage and Alicia in a continuance from their War Games match at Breaking Barriers 2 last November, but the figureheads of both the Militia and Team WSU are the meat and potatoes of the show.
