Pro-Wrestling SUN: SUNrise Fallout, new roster member announced

Pro-Wrestling SUN promoter Allison Danger has just passed through the following press release:

The debut of Pro-Wrestling SUN in Jackson, NJ was a great success! Thank you to those who were able to make the trip out there to share in the our day. Here is the fallout from SUNrise:

Mercedes Martinez (WSU) and Kellie Skater (PWWA) opened the show with a fantastic match that saw gratuitous amounts of shenanigans from the Aussie, yet they were no match for Latina Sensation. Skater fell to the Fisherman Buster from the reigning WSU Champion.

The Big News

Three of the five female contestants in the relaunch of Tough Enough kicking off on April 4th (my birthday, send cake… lemon drizzle) have had ties to WWE in the past. As mentioned on February 17th (before the website went live), Miss USA Rima Fakih was the first contestant’s name to be announced. The 25-year old appeared on Raw at the end of last year to crown Sheamus as the King Of The Ring as part of her guest host duties. She was tweeting four days before the shooting wrapped, so one would assume that she got close, but didn’t make it to the final.

25-year old Michelle Deighton was a part of America’s Next Top Model cycle 4 in 2005 – a show which had something in common with the original Tough Enoughs in that they both had Ken Mok as an executive producer, so shared many aspects of presentation – and was known as a wrestler at that point. After having her hair fried blonde and suffering impetigo during the show, she was eliminated, but showed up on SmackDown in November of that year as both that and Top Model were on UPN at the time.

Since then, she has had a daughter, now 3, and married Survivor star and TNA part-timer Jonny Fairplay – but seeing she was featured on a YouTube vodcast in North Carolina last week and the show is still being filmed in California, one can assume that she has already been eliminated. That must be a slap in the teeth since she’s been involved in wrestling for 11 years and apparently didn’t last as long as Miss USA… (more…)

Eagles misses SUN main event

SHIMMER Champion Madison Eagles was forced to miss the main event of Pro Wrestling SUN today, as she has been in hospital for undisclosed reasons. Eagles tweeted:

Very sad to have missed the SUN show, but I have been detained in hospital since yesterday and won’t be out for a while yet to come…

We at Ringbelles wish Madison all the best – offer her your sentiments on Twitter and Facebook.

The main event of the show was changed to feature Sara Del Rey challenging Allison Danger for the SUN title – Death Rey won the belt with a stunner.

In other results from the show, Mercedes Martinez defeated Kellie Skater, Harajuku Masume (Roxie Cotton and Sumie Sakai) retained the World-1 Tag Team titles by beating Roxie’s former tag team partners Annie Social and Marti Belle, and Mia Svensson beat Mia Yim by DQ by conning the ref into believing Yim had hit her with a wrench. Following the contest, Yim challenged Svensson to a streetfight for the the next SUN show.

WOW Podcast #18 with Roxie Cotton & Christina Von Eerie

Episode 18 with Roxie Cotton & Christina Von Eerie

The Women of Wrestling Podcast turns 18 and celebrates with a dual guest show featuring Roxie Cotton & Christina Von Eerie talking their big upcoming appearances at Pro Wrestling SUN in Jackson, NJ this weekend and SHIMMER Women Athletes in Berwyn, IL next weekend respectively. First up is Roxie, who talks about Fabulous Moolah being a career influence, suffering motion sickness whilst wrestling, first-hand experience of death-match wrestling (including the truly unbelievable story of BB Walls at the 2007 Queen of the Death Matches tournament),tagging with Annie Social as the Beat Down Betties, her unique character, her desire to touch Tyler Black and her burgeoning stand-up comedy side-project. Then it’s time for Christina Von Eerie, one of the most striking women in the business who talks how she fell into pro-wrestling through punk rock, wrestling on the West Coast, getting her big break in AAA in Mexico and working with the Apache Sisters, her TNA aspirations (she had a try-out last year) and hopes for her SHIMMER debut. Also… learn about Puke and Spit. Really.

Two pretty awesome women that you might not know a lot about, but you really should. Plus Stew & Lee run down some of the news coming out of Femmes Fatales last weekend, and the potentially huge story surrounding the Scream Queen Daffney‘s worker’s comp claim against TNA.

The Big News

JUST IN:

Daffney is no longer a part of TNA – she issued a statement to Diva Dirt informing us of the situation:

Yesterday my picture was taken down off of the TNA roster page. My contract expires today and TNA did not renew it. I do not know if it has anything to do with it, but I’ve make a Worker’s Comp against them claim due to injuries I’ve sustained in the ring and my lawyers said to not go into anymore details.
Thanks,
Daff

Daffney hasn’t been seen in TNA in 2011. She is slated to appear at Anarchy Championship Wrestling Queen Of Queens on June 26 in Live Oak, TX and at a number of signing appearances over the next few months. Check out the We Want Daffney Facebook page to see if there is one near to you.

This situation does add some credence to this article though, which claims that working conditions in TNA are poor, and that you had better hope you never get hurt under a TNA contract, or you’ll be in trouble:

Angelina Love (who, as leader of The Beautiful People, has been one of company’s established ratings draws for years now) noted in a 2009 interview that she had suffered a very serious concussion at the TNA Lockdown PPV that had just taken place. (This was the in the triple threat cage match with Awesome Kong and Taylor Wilde for the TNA women’s championship, in which Love landed wrong, hit her head and was completely out of it for the rest of the match. With things quickly turning into a shambles, Taylor then improvised a finish on the fly, so Love could win the Knockouts title as scripted. Despite the quick-thinking Taylor’s best efforts, the finish still looked awful: Love could barely do anything, and even standing and smiling with the title at the end seemed beyond her.) Love herself confirms this in the interview: “I was pretty much carried by four security guards to the trainer’s office. I was completely blacked out. I don’t even remember winning.” The interviewer then notes that TNA put her in a match two days later. Love, who has a history of suffering bad concussions, confirmed this, as well as noting: “You’ve got to make a living, so I was doing indie shows about 5 days later. It probably wasn’t too safe…” This story threw up several troubling questions in my mind: Why did TNA put her in a match so soon after what was a fairly serious head injury? What doctor in their right mind told her to get back in the ring just two days after suffering such a severe concussion? Did she even go see a doctor? Could she have afforded to see one?

Either way, we wish Daffney a speedy recovery, and good health and fortune for the future. For someone who gave their body to TNA and allowed herself to be put through tables and thumbtacks for our entertainment, she deserves some good fortune.

LuFisto described it as a “dream come true” – a year after they were originally scheduled to wrestle back on February 10, 2010 in the main event of Femmes Fatales II, the Super Hardcore Anime finally got the chance to take on Ayako Hamada at NCW: Femmes Fatales V last Saturday in Montreal. The two engaged in what’s been described a classic encounter over the Femmes Fatales Championship which saw LuFisto retain the title with a Burning Hammer.

Other notable results include Mercedes Martinez beating Kalamity, and Courntney Rush (the former PJ Tyler) defeating Cat Power in a Combat De Rue in what Power later informed us would be her last match. The Windsor, Ontario native is looking to go back to school and is also looking to continue her boxing training. Stew and I talked to Cat last week as part of the Women Of Wrestling Podcast – her final interview as an active wrestler. We at Ringbelles wish her nothing but the best for the future. (more…)

The Big News

“The true definition of madness is repeating the same action, over and over, hoping for a different result.”

Without even the slightest hint of irony, Jeff Jarrett used that quote from Albert Einstein on his Twitter. For anyone who may not understand the hilarity based on current events, let’s go back in time:

Last October, Jersey Shore star J-Woww did a one-shot deal for TNA which actually clashed with a new Jersey Shore episode when it was aired, garnered little media attention and cost thousands of dollars. Having not learned their lesson, TMZ reported this last Thursday:

“Former Jersey Shore castmate Angelina Pivarnick is officially returning to TV next month … but there’s also good news — she’ll be in a wrestling ring! So… she could catch a beating and stuff. Sources close to Angelina tells us after a month of negotiations she finally signed a contract with TNA Wrestling earlier this week.
We’re told the “Staten Island Dump” will make her debut in a tag team match involving TNA’s Snooki-a-like… Cookie.”

Removing the element of surprise about her two week appearance, TNA even described that Pivarnick will call out J-Woww on this week’s live episode of Impact for a fight. At least we know what we’ll be missing while we fast-forward it. (more…)

Lots of Tough Enough stuff, so let’s go chronologically…

Thursday

Former Monday Night Raw guest host and current Miss USA Rima Fakih has been announced as the first participant in the reboot of Tough Enough, starting on April 4, the night after WrestleMania XXVII.

The 25 year old’s only appearance on any wrestling show was on November 29, 2010 when she crowned Sheamus as King of the Ring.

That WWE announced Miss USA as the show’s first participant is a decent media coup for the promotion, as it’s got crossover appeal. However, when you consider that WWE put out press releases asking for independent female wrestlers to apply for the show – Mercedes Martinez, Roxie Cotton, Anne Social, Brittney Savage and Sara Del Rey all had a crack – and none of them made the cut while an untrained model did is a little galling to a female wrestler who drives hundreds of miles to wrestle in a dirty ring in front of 40 people for little money. WOW Podcast Xmas Special (#16) with Allison Danger, Kellie Skater & Rhia O’Reilly

Episode 16 with Allison Danger, Kellie Skater & Rhia O’Reilly
Sit back with your mulled wine, party hat and ill-fitting Christmas jumper and join Stew & Lee, as they look at recent news, reflect on some of our interviews from 2010, and dole out the official podcast awards for Wrestler of the Year and Woman of the Year. However, nothing can quite go according to plan, as your intrepid hosts are visited by three guests… err… ghosts… in a tri-continental “A Christmas Carol”-themed special. Dropping in are the returning Allison Danger (talking exclusive news about the reformation of Pro-Wrestling SUN and *so* much more randomness), followed by Australia’s very own “Rate Tank” Kellie Skater (talking her 2010, being an international gangsta and her abusive relationship with Lee) and finishing up with Northern Ireland’s rookie prospect Rhia O’Reilly (on training with Lance Storm, working in Europe and her dreams for 2011). Thanks for supporting us with a phenomenal 2010, and we hope to move on to bigger and better things in 2011. Happy holidays!
