Bellatrix 6 card – plenty of first-time matches
Until today, the only match which we knew was going to be taking place at Bellatrix 6 on June 23 was Rhia O’Reilly defending the British Championship against Erin Angel – a match which is likely to deliver, especially since they have tangled twice in the past month with each claiming a victory over the other. However, the promotion has now revealed what its big roster featuring a lot of debuting women will be up to on the show, and there are quite a few first-time encounters on the card… (more…)
Bellatrix 6 roster revealed, many new additions
It’s been a pretty Euro-centric sort of week here at Ringbelles, so we may as well continue in that ethos…
The roster for the Bellatrix 6 iPPV on June 23 has been revealed, with a lot of new names featuring in the lineup. Nine European nations are represented on the show, with women from England, Scotland, Northern Ireland, Norway, Finland, France, Italy, Germany and Portgual being represented. Representing England are regulars Saraya Knight, rising star Penelope, RQW European Women’s Champion Liberty, rookie Chanel, Destiny, Skarlett, Erin Angel and Violet O’Hara. Other roster members returning are Italian Queen Maya, Northern Ireland’s Rhia O’Reilly and Norway’s Miss Mina, as well as Finn Aurora Flame and France’s X-Cute Sweet, who have both been absent since Bellatrix 2 11 months ago.
There is also an influx of Scottish talent heading to Norwich. Nikki Storm, Carmel Jacob, Bete Noire and Kay Lee Ray all make their debuts, while Viper makes her first appearance in the promotion since teaming with Destiny at WAWW The Return in November 2011. Rounding off the roster are Germany’s Alpha Female and Portugal’s Perfect Athlete Shanna making their first Bellatrix appearances, making it a roster of 20 women participating. (more…)
WAWW Bellatrix 2 results (now updated with thoughts and photos)
A bumper weekend of women’s wrestling continues in Costessey, England this afternoon, as the World Association of Women’s Wrestling presents Bellatrix 2, featuring grapplers from across Europe.
As discussed last week when the card was announced, topping the bill will be the Italian giant and reigning RQW European Champion Queen Maya defending the belt against former Nordic Women’s Wrestling Alliance Champion Aurora Flame from Finland. Maya has held the title since last November, and faces a stiff challenge from Flame, who has been wrestling for close to 5 years.
Elsewhere on the card, reigning SHIMMER Champion Sweet Saraya challenges British Champion Liberty for the title, Ireland’s Rhia O’Reilly takes on Norway’s Miss Mina and Germany’s Lady Lory meets British star Skarlett. Making their debuts in WAWW will be French wrestlers Eloanne & X-Cute Sweet, as well as a the masked newcomer Phobia. Click after the jump for all the results as they happen. (more…)
Ringbelles Roundup (12 June 2012)
It’s the end of an era as far as Women Superstars Uncensored is concerned on Saturday. At the conclusion of the Uncensored Rumble V iPPV from Deer Park, NY, the WSU founder Sean McCaffrey will hand over the reins to another group, described to us as a promotion which is as major as an indie promotion can be.
A month ago, WSU made the announcement that it had been sold to an “independent buyer”, but the initial buyer was said to have fallen through, with other options being explored. Clearly, one of those options paid off, as everything has been sorted out ahead of the Uncensored Rumble, where we will all find out just who has acquired the promotion.
It is an uncertain period though, as there is no guarantee that the new owners will share the same vision of WSU. There is a possibility that things will progress as planned, but there is also a chance that whoever Is taking over will have new ideas and suggestions for storylines and talent, so there could be some shake-ups to come too. WSU’s outlook may change over time, but it is unlikely that if there will be any alterations, they won’t happen immediately. After all, the fans are the ones who finance things in the long run, and to make changes immediately and in a big fashion could be too jarring to the WSU faithful and possibly drive them away. Much more likely would be a subtle movement in direction to enhance what already exists.
Queen Maya vs Aurora Flame headlines WAWW Bellatrix 2; Liberty vs Saraya Knight also announced
We’ve just received word of the first matches to be confirmed for the World Association of Women’s Wrestling show on Sunday, June 17th. Entitled “Bellatrix 2″, the event will be headlined by a match for the RQW European Title as Queen Maya defends her title against Finland’s Aurora Flame, who comes to us from the FCF promotion. Queen Maya has been really establishing herself as a dominant force across the rings of Europe since picking up the RQW belt at WAWW’s “The Return”, and this will be a stern test against the well travelled and experienced Aurora Flame.
Also in title action, the WAWW British Ladies Championship match will be up for grabs as title holder Liberty defends against none other than Saraya Knight, the current SHIMMER Champion. At the age of 18, but already with over two years of experience, Liberty has become the one to watch in the rings of WAWW. From winning the British Ladies Championship at “The Return” last November from the departing Britani Knight (thanks, it must be said, to a helping hand… err.. fist from Allison Danger) to successfully defending the title against her former tag team partner Amy-Lee at the first Bellatrix show in March, a case could certainly be made that Liberty has had match of the night honours on both WAWW shows so far. Liberty has followed almost the exact same career trajectory as the former Britani Knight (now Paige in FCW) by tagging early in her career with her best friend (for Knight it was fellow Norfolk Doll Melodi, and with Liberty it was with Amy-Lee), excelling as a singles wrestler, abandoning the fans and winning the British Championship. In fact, if anything, Liberty has reached the championship heights even faster than Britani did – but there is absolutely no doubt that this match represents Liberty’s biggest challenge to date. Jenny Sjodin becomes a double champion
Pro Wrestling: EVE Champion Jenny Sjodin is celebrating for two reasons: breaking her duck against rival Aurora Flame and taking the Nordic Women’s Wrestling Alliance Championship in the process. The “Female Fight Machine” came out on top in the title v title affair at SWS Pro Wrestling in Malmo, Sweden tonight. Sjodin had been 0-2 against Flame, after being defeated in the NWWA Championship tournament final in May, then lost again in the rematch days later. However, Sjodin’s cross-armbreaker submission hold proved to be too much for the Nokia, Finland native, who tapped out and surrendered her title to the victor.
Our first knowledge of the result came via Sjodin’s Twitter account. Judging from her reaction following the event, we’d say that the Swede was pretty happy with the victory:

Nanae Takahashi could have chosen to wrestle anyone in her 15th anniversary match. After all, she is one of the founders of STARDOM – a promotion formed in late 2010 to help season the younger generation of aspiring joshi stars and train up new ones from different aspects of the entertainment industry, such as Yuzuki Aikawa, who had been a model, ballet dancer, and girl group singer. Takahashi could have picked any woman from any promotion in Japan, seeing as many promotions share and exchange talent these days. However, the 32-year old decided that instead of picking a domestic star to take on, she would select someone who has never wrestled in Japan before – the Women Superstars Uncensored World Champion Mercedes Martinez.
We’ll get to Martinez in a moment, but first, a quick biography of her opponent on July 24 in Tokyo, and the promotion that is her current pet project.
Takahashi debuted in 1996 at the age of 17, and shot out of the blocks, winning two All Japan Women tag team titles in two years. Taking the bull by the horns in the previous decade, Nanae started 2000 by winning the AJW singles gold on March. She followed it up over the next 10 by winning the WWWA singles and tag titles (her first WWWA solo title win was over Ayako Hamada on May 11, 2003), and was the singles champ when the promotion folded in 2006.
During that year (which was also her 10 year anniversary, in case you weren’t keeping track) announced her intention to start her own promotion. That promotion was Pro Wrestling SUN, which still exists to this very day, under the handling of one Allison Danger and is based in the US. At the time, the promotion recognised the AWA Women’s Championship and had Takahashi as its champion, though she lost it to Amazing Kong, who then entered a war with then-NWA World Women’s Champion MsChif.
After SUN entered inactivity in 2008, Nanae won the NEO singles and tag titles, the Ice Ribbon Triangle Ribbon and International Ribbon Tag Team Titles, and even the JWP Openweight championship. As you can tell, this is a woman who has had her fair share of success. And other people’s share. And on July 24, Takahashi could add another title to that list of accomplishments – the newly created World of STARDOM championship. (more…)
Sjodin in “title for title” match
Pro Wrestling: EVE has announced the first title defence for new champion Jenny Sjodin, and it’s a big one. A really big one.
The Female Fight Machine will meet an EVE outsider, but someone she knows well – Nordic Women’s Wrestling Alliance Champion Aurora Flame. Two two will wrestle on August 13 at Tangopalatset in Malmo, Sweden for SWS Pro Wrestling .
The NWWA is not a promotion as such. Instead, it is a collective agreement with a number of promotions to stage NWWA sanctioned matches on their shows – much like how the WILD Championship works.
As with the title match at XWA Wrestling in Morecambe, UK last month where Sjodin beat Britani Knight to win the title, this match will be recorded and added to a forthcoming Pro Wrestling: EVE DVD.
Flame won the championship after beating Sjodin in the tournament final back in May, and succesfully defended it days later, though both victories were under questionable circumstances.
