Shine Wrestling 4: Scouting Report
If you skipped Shine 3 last month on the belief that it was likely to be a bit of a placeholder show, shame on you, because it turned out to be a heckuva worthwhile show, with Jazz & Rain delivering in the main event and Jessicka Havok vs Mia Yim winning a lot of match of the night plaudits. But chances are you’re back for Shine 4 anyway, with the influx of SHIMMER related talent, and a SHIMMER Title defence in the main event, as Saraya Knight brings her distinctive brand of belligerence to Ybor City in a battle with former WWE Women’s Champion Jazz… so let’s take a look at Shine’s newbies.
Saraya Knight – SHIMMER Champion
First SHIMMER Title defence for the 20+ year veteran, having defeated Cheerleader Melissa at SHIMMER Vol 48 earlier this year … “The English Rose” is the matriarch of female wrestling in Britain, having won multiple titles and promoted wrestling (WAW) with her husband “Rowdy” Ricky Knight for over 15 years … Now promotes World Association of Women’s Wrestling (WAWW) featuring women from all over Europe … Mother of WWE NXT Diva Paige … Came back from a believed career ending injury in 2008 … Former WOW Podcast guest … Likes to “play” when in the US, so keep your hands to yourself and your words soft and sweet in case you have to eat them.
ICW: Fierce Females results – now with thoughts, photos and an interview with Kay Lee Ray
Britain’s third all-female wrestling promotion debuts today, with promises of it offering a different sort of product to the likes of the World Association of Women’s Wrestling and Pro Wrestling: EVE. Insane Championship Wrestling: Fierce Females is hyping an evening of hard-hitting wrestling action, coupled with burlesque dancers (which explains the poster’s similarities to the one for the film Burlesque) and a more edgy atmosphere.
Emanating from The Arches in Glasgow, Scotland, the main event of the debut show is a Last Woman Standing match between longtime rivals Kay Lee Ray and Carmel Jacob. The pair also managed to gain some pretty good exposure for the show this week when they were part of a two-page spread in The Scottish Sun newspaper. Other matches on the card include England’s Lisa Fury (replacing an injured Jenny Sjodin) and April Davids against twins Kasey and Leah Owens from Northern Ireland, Miss Nicola Storm facing the “Technical Supremo” Fiona Fraser, and the “Fighting Irish” Rhia O’Reilly taking on England’s Holly Rocamora.

Rhia O’Reilly has issues with HONOUR
Sometimes, even with the best intentions, you can still raise the ire of someone, and that’s exactly what has happened with HONOUR‘s article about the new partnership between Rhia O’Reilly and Amazon Ayesha Ray. She took to YouTube to talk about how she is not merely the instigator of fights and leaves them for Ray to finish, displaying her newly-won WAWW British Championship as proof that she can get it done by herself.
Elsewhere in HONOUR’s 2nd anniversary issue – which is now being released on a bi-monthly basis – Nikki Roxx, Athena and Veda Scott are all interviewed, there is a look at SHIMMER‘s latest DVD releases and Mercedes Martinez‘s shoot interview, how AIW‘s Girls Night Out series has grown, and a new feature which will track the progress of eight women – including Brooke Tessmacher, Courtney Rush and Evie – over the next year.

WAWW Bellatrix 3 results
The World Association of Women’s Wrestling returns this evening at a brand new venue – the Epic Studios in Norwich, England; a purpose-built TV facility with studio lights and sound. It plays host to Bellatrix 3, with the main focus on the card being a tournament to crown the WAWW Queen of the Ring with names such as promising rookie Penelope, Norway’s Miss Mina, SHIMMER Champion Sweet Saraya, former WAWW British Champion Destiny, and the tiny-yet-scrappy Violet O’Hara among those vying for the crown. Also featured on the card include Norwegian Jewel Jensen, EWW Women’s Champion Skarlett and Germany’s Lady Lory.
Also taking place is the a WAWW British Championship defence with titleholder Liberty – who won the belt at The Return last November from Britani Knight – now Paige – then successfully defended it against Amy Lee at the original Bellatrix in February and then beat Saraya at Bellatrix 2 in June – putting the belt on the line against Rhia O’Reilly, who has enjoyed a lot of international experience over the course of 2012.
Another factor to consider is whether Jetta‘s decision to try and create some friction in the WAWW dressing room at the end of Bellatrix 2 by planting doubt in the heads of the wrestlers over the vision of founder Saraya and whether she is the right person to be at the helm will come into play.

Pippa L’Vinn presents Uprising – results & report
Up until now, we have not been able to offer results from any show held at Pippa L’Vinn‘s Wrestle Factory in Manchester, England. The main reason is a simple one – the price. Should you walk up to the door to buy a ticket for a show, it would set you back a whopping £45, which is about $70 – and if you booked in advance, it would be £40, which is $64. Cheap, it ain’t. Another reason is the reputation of the Wrestle Factory itself, which isn’t what you would expect. If you need a little bit of insight, click here, go to the “Our Facilities” option at the top and you’ll see what we mean.
However, there are upsides for women to wrestle there. Firstly, L’Vinn is an excellent wrestler in her own right and has a lot to offer both as a performer and trainer. While she seldom wrestles outside of the Factory, the first time I ever saw her compete was against Allison Danger during the SHIMMER founder’s extended tour of the UK in early 2007. Considering this was their first match and had only met that day, the match was excellent, and outshone the rest of the card. Looking beyond the private “mixed” matches, the “scissors match” and the “plastic fantastic” room, L’Vinn is a hell of an athlete, and it is a shame that she doesn’t wrestle outside her own training facility more often – but then, when you’re picking up at least £40 a ticket, why would you?
As for the wrestlers visiting, it is a place to get a great education in British-style grappling and are well-paid for the pro wrestling shows, such as the one held yesterday. Called Uprising, it featured some home-grown names like veteran Shelby Beach, as well as more recognisable European names like the Rhia O’Reilly, Kirsty Love, Viper, Lisa Fury and the Pro Wrestling: EVE Champion Alpha Female. Ringbelles Roundup (17 July 2012)
I’ve been concerned about the future of Pro Wrestling: EVE, as each show seemed to be becoming a stand-alone production. EVE v Ice Ribbon was a great weekend of action, but didn’t really offer much indication on what would happen next, barring the win streaks of Alpha Female and Nikki Storm. At No Man’s Land in February, there was only one advertised match, which was the title match with Jenny Sjodin defending against Alpha, and that ended inconclusively. Meanwhile in the Queen of the Ring tournament which was set up after the plans to crown new Tag Team Champions fell though, Nikki won, which only reminded us that she was the next contender, and didn’t offer much to speculate about for the next show. Then Alpha won the belt on a non-EVE show, which – while it was the right move – would have been best on the No Man’s Land card. In addition, attendances were less than stellar, which was a shame – doubly so for the EVE v Ice Ribbon shows, which featured some spectacular matches.
However, last Saturday, things slotted into place very nicely. (more…)
Pro Wrestling: EVE – Special Edition results (now updated with thoughts, Nikki Storm comments and photos)
Pro Wrestling: EVE‘s Special Edition show is about to start, with five women’s matches, interspersed with three men’s encounters from promotions across the country such as the Scottish Wrestling Allianceand Lucha Britannia. Earlier today, we looked at the EVE Championship match between Alpha Female and Ayesha Ray, but there are four other women’s contests on the card…
In what’s billed as a European Dream Match, former Champion Jenny Sjodin meets Blue Nikita, while twins take on twins when Hannah and Holly Blossom step into the ring with Leah and Kasey Owens. Rhia O’Reilly fights Kirsty Love to try and retain her slot on the EVE roster following a number of losses in the promotion, and Nikki Storm has her most high-profile match to date when she takes on TNA‘s Winter, Kat Waters.

A good half year for… a few others
Over the last week, we have given you our rundown on the seven wrestlers who have raised their stock in the last six months, all of whom have done so in various ways (and you can read about them all right here). However, as with all lists, there is always some discussion about whether the right choices were made. Believe us when we tell you that there was quite a bit of conversation on who should get the article treatment, as there were a number of names who were considered. Pro Wrestling: EVE show taking shape
With three weeks to go until Pro Wrestling: EVE‘s next show, entitled “Special Edition”, the bulk of the card has been laid out – the most recent announcement being the EVE Championship match, which will pit current holder Alpha Female putting the belt on the line against Ayesha Ray, who you may know better as Amazon.
The match will be Alpha’s first defence of the title since winning it from Jenny Sjodin in April in London, following their double count-out draw six weeks previously at No Man’s Land. This match will be Ray’s first match in Eve since the title tournament weekend in April last year, and is winless in the promotion, so the declaration of her being the first challenger for Alpha’s title was a curious one among fans. The question was broached on Twitter as well as the SHIMMER forum as to what led to the decision to have Ayesha take on Alpha over other EVE wrestlers like Erin Angel or Shanna, and the promotion responded: (more…)
WAWW Bellatrix 2 results (now updated with thoughts and photos)
A bumper weekend of women’s wrestling continues in Costessey, England this afternoon, as the World Association of Women’s Wrestling presents Bellatrix 2, featuring grapplers from across Europe.
As discussed last week when the card was announced, topping the bill will be the Italian giant and reigning RQW European Champion Queen Maya defending the belt against former Nordic Women’s Wrestling Alliance Champion Aurora Flame from Finland. Maya has held the title since last November, and faces a stiff challenge from Flame, who has been wrestling for close to 5 years.
Elsewhere on the card, reigning SHIMMER Champion Sweet Saraya challenges British Champion Liberty for the title, Ireland’s Rhia O’Reilly takes on Norway’s Miss Mina and Germany’s Lady Lory meets British star Skarlett. Making their debuts in WAWW will be French wrestlers Eloanne & X-Cute Sweet, as well as a the masked newcomer Phobia. Click after the jump for all the results as they happen. (more…)
Queen Maya vs Aurora Flame headlines WAWW Bellatrix 2; Liberty vs Saraya Knight also announced
We’ve just received word of the first matches to be confirmed for the World Association of Women’s Wrestling show on Sunday, June 17th. Entitled “Bellatrix 2″, the event will be headlined by a match for the RQW European Title as Queen Maya defends her title against Finland’s Aurora Flame, who comes to us from the FCF promotion. Queen Maya has been really establishing herself as a dominant force across the rings of Europe since picking up the RQW belt at WAWW’s “The Return”, and this will be a stern test against the well travelled and experienced Aurora Flame.
Also in title action, the WAWW British Ladies Championship match will be up for grabs as title holder Liberty defends against none other than Saraya Knight, the current SHIMMER Champion. At the age of 18, but already with over two years of experience, Liberty has become the one to watch in the rings of WAWW. From winning the British Ladies Championship at “The Return” last November from the departing Britani Knight (thanks, it must be said, to a helping hand… err.. fist from Allison Danger) to successfully defending the title against her former tag team partner Amy-Lee at the first Bellatrix show in March, a case could certainly be made that Liberty has had match of the night honours on both WAWW shows so far. Liberty has followed almost the exact same career trajectory as the former Britani Knight (now Paige in FCW) by tagging early in her career with her best friend (for Knight it was fellow Norfolk Doll Melodi, and with Liberty it was with Amy-Lee), excelling as a singles wrestler, abandoning the fans and winning the British Championship. In fact, if anything, Liberty has reached the championship heights even faster than Britani did – but there is absolutely no doubt that this match represents Liberty’s biggest challenge to date. Fierce Females is coming to Scotland
Considering the wealth of talent in Scotland, this is a move that makes a lot of sense…
Glasgow-based promotion Insane Championship Wrestling is launching its own all-women off-shoot called Fierce Females, with its debut show scheduled for September. Already announced as being part of the roster are Scots Kay Lee Ray and Viper, as well as former Pro Wrestling: EVE Champion Jenny Sjodin, April Davids, Rhia O’Reilly, Erin Angel, Holly Rocamora and twins Leah and Kasey Owens. Considering they are also part of the main ICW roster, we should also expect to see Carmel Jacob and Sara Marie Taylor, and also Nikki Storm, who recently returned to the promotion as Miss Nicola Storm, looking to clean up the promotion and remove the violence and strong language associated with the product.
Fierce Females had a rocky start last week when it was announced under its original name of ICW: Femmes Fatales, though it was asked to change its moniker by the already-established Canadian promotion with the same name, and ICW agreed. It was a good idea, as some fans on the Facebook page it had set up had incorrectly assumed that the two promotions were connected. It was also a positive that the two groups could reach an amicable position, instead of it breaking down into a petty argument, so thumbs up to Fierce Females for handing the situation in a professional manner. WAWW Bellatrix results (now updated with live observations)
The World Association of Women’s Wrestling returns today with the second show since its return, entitled Bellatrix, though its big money matchup for the show in Norwich, England has had to be scrapped.
Former Women Superstars Uncensored Champion Mercedes Martinez was unable to gain access to the United Kingdom on Thursday, meaning that her scheduled match against fellow hard-hitter Amazon will not take place. Instead, a four woman tournament has been announced to determine a number on contender to the British Championship, currently held by Liberty – though she defends against Amy Lee Kramer today. That tournament will consist of Amazon, rookie Penelope, the 4’9” Violet O’Hara & Rhia O’Reilly, fresh from her travels to the US and Canada for SHIMMER and NCW: Femmes Fatales.
Speaking of SHIMMER, its current titleholder Sweet Saraya teams up with Extreme World Wrestling Women’s Champion Skarlett against veteran Busty Keegan and WAW stalwart Destiny.
The RQW European Championship is also on the line as titleholder Queen Maya – who was defeated by Saraya at last night’s WAW show – puts the belt on the line against Jewel from Norway.

SHIMMER volumes 47 & 48 results – title changes (now updated with live observations)
It’s day two of the SHIMMER tapings in Berwyn, IL (you can find out the results, thoughts and photos from yesterday’s DVD tapings by clicking here), and a number of matches have been announced.
After defeating both Canadian Ninjas in singles matches yesterday, Cheerleader Melissa defends her SHIMMER Championship against Jessie McKay, aware that Sweet Saraya has apparently put a bounty on her head.
Elsewhere, the Tag Team Championship will be on the line as holders Ayako Hamada and Ayumi Kurihara defend against high-fliers Ray and Leon in an all-joshi affair, Mercedes Martinez takes on Hailey Hatred, and the unlikely team of Sara Del Rey and Courtney Rush will meet ReGeneration X – Allison Danger & Leva Bates.

SHIMMER volumes 45 & 46 results (now updated with live observations)
We’ve had WSU; we’ve had Femmes Fatales, and now it’s the turn of SHIMMER as part of wrestling’s March Madness.
Cheerleader Melissa walks into these four DVD tapings as the SHIMMER Champion, while Ayumi Kurihara and Ayako Hamada hold the Tag Team Championship. Although no matches have been announced, we offered some thoughts about what could happen, but they are just musings and nothing more. We will all find out together how things will unfold.

Femmes Fatales live show thoughts and observations
So, I’ve had nearly 24 hours to digest the events of Femmes Fatales VIII on Saturday night at the Centre St-Barthelemy in Montreal, Quebec (full results here), and to be honest, I’m still struggling on where to begin. I suppose the easiest place is to say that I’ve seen the first six Femmes Fatales shows on DVD, and this was the best one yet, in my view. 
(I’ve picked up the DVD of FF VII, but everybody was in agreement by the end of the night that this was the best show in company history, top to bottom). There wasn’t a bad match on the show, in fact – and when it was *really* good – as it was for Cheerleader Melissa vs Hailey Hatred in particular, it was utterly fantastic. It’s not a newsflash for patrons of this website in particular that both Melissa & Hailey are tremendous pro wrestlers – so the fact that they put on such a great match is hardly unexpected. Hard hitting, technically sound, and nicely paced – the twenty minute time limit flew by way too quickly, ending with Hatred holding out in a Kondo Clutch for what seemed like an age before eating a curb stomp. “Five more minutes”, which were put up on the big screen as a 5:00 countdown clock, gave us more of the same and ended with a raucous final 1:00 where the two simply struck each other into oblivion with back and forth strikes like a marathon runner sprinting the last hundred metres. nCw Femmes Fatales VIII results
All eyes are on Montreal, Quebec, Canada this evening as nCw Femmes Fatales hosts its eighth instalment, and boasts a triple main event. In the main event, defending International Champion Kalamity takes on Mercedes Martinez; elsewhere, Hailey Hatred meets Cheerleader Melissa in a Battle Of The Champions; and former International titleholder LuFisto faces former WWE Women’s Champion Jazz in a First Time Ever Dream Match.
Elsewhere, Jessie McKay and Rhia O’Reilly join Jazz and Hatred in making their debuts, while Portia Perez and Sweet Cherrie look to settle their differences.

So, Jessicka Havok ascended to the top of Women Superstars Uncensored’s mountain on Saturday night by winning the promotion’s top championship from Mercedes Martinez at the 5th Anniversary Show, making her an undefeated Champion and putting an end to Martinez’ reign four days shy of the three year mark. In a match that was a wild brawl of a war more than a technical affair, it was unconventional, but successful. The pair fought all over the building and took some crazy bumps along the way – the Fisherman Buster from the apron through the table to the concrete floor being the height of the lunacy. No doubt, Havok was given the best springboard that she could possibly get for the start of her reign, and Martinez pulled out everything to give her that launch.
The ending was somewhat of a head-scratcher, with both going through a table from the top rope but Havok managing to get the pin, but I imagine the idea is that it shows just how evenly matched the two are and a draped arm was the only thing that could separate them. However, having a slightly more decisive match-ending move may have sweetened things slightly – though at this point I’m splitting hairs on what was a great main event, and also an early contender for Match of the Year.
Many have described the 5th Anniversary show their best iPPV to date. Having seen most of them, it would be hard to disagree with that. When it came to aesthetics, things went well – most of the direction was good, the cameramen were in the right place for most of the stuff (barring a couple of incidents, which I’ll get to) and the graphics and editing went well. As a TV product, it was the sharpest yet. And there was a boob toss. Nothing more to be said about it really, but I felt it just HAD to be mentioned. (more…)
Pro Wrestling: EVE – No Man’s Land results (now updated with photos and thoughts)
It’s Pro Wrestling: EVE‘s first show in 2012, with a new number one contender being crowned and the EVE Championship on the line in the main event.
Titleholder Jenny Sjodin has held the title since last June and has five successful title defences under her belt, defeating Aurora Flame, Rhia O’Reilly, April Davids, Emi Sakura and Shanna & Davids in a triple threat match. She meets Alpha Female , who has a four match win streak in the promotion, teaming with Super Janey B to beat the Glamour Gym, then seeing off Hikaru Shida and Sara-Marie Taylor in singles action, before defeating Viper & O’Reilly in a three-way in October. In total, Alpha has only lost one contest in the promotion, falling to Nikki Storm in the semi finals of the original EVE title tournament last April.
Speaking of tournaments, eight women will meet to determine a new top contender for the title. In the quarter finals, Nikki Storm meets Hannah Blossom, while Hannah’s sister Holly takes on Sara-Marie Taylor. In the other bracket, April Davids faces Rhia O’Reilly, while Kay Lee Ray wrestles fellow Scot Carmel Jacob.

Seeing as it’s Valentine’s Day, how about a look at two of the romances running in WWE that involve two of the biggest storylines going on at the moment?
On Raw this week, the relationship between Zack Ryder and Eve Torres ground to a halt when Eve decided to kiss John Cena after he helped to rescue her from the clutches of Kane. Unfortunately, a crushed Ryder saw the whole thing, though Torres claimed it was a heat of the moment thing, then called things off with him, hoping that they can remain friends.
On the plus side, this storyline is the best opportunity that Torres has every had to show some personality in her near five year WWE tenure, even though it has caused her to experience derision from the audience for knowingly or unknowingly screwing over one of the favourite wrestlers in the promotion right now – someone who has captured the hearts and imagination of fans by standing up to his bosses with his YouTube Z! True Long Island Story, getting over in spite of his booking (or lack of it) and then being sucked into one of the most asinine and ridiculous storylines in years, that being Cena v Kane, by being the whipping boy who is the real life equivalent of Kenny from South Park being murdered on every show. By screwing over the guy who has the sympathy of fans, Eve is positioned as a heel… for now. (more…)
Queen to be crowned at EVE’s “No Man’s Land”
Pro-Wrestling EVE has announced the the crowning of a Queen as part of the supporting card at “NO MAN’S LAND: SJODIN vs ALPHA” event at Sudbury’s Delphi Club on this Saturday. The promotion will present an eight woman elimination tournament, to be dubbed Queen of the Ring, and will result in the crowning of a new #1 contender for the EVE Championship.

Rhia O’Reilly to debut for Femmes Fatales next month
“The Fighting Irish” Rhia O’Reilly becomes the latest debutante at Femmes Fatales VIII in Montreal , Quebec, on March 10th. Belfast born O’Reilly, who wrestles for all-female promotions WAWW & Pro-Wrestling EVE in the UK, will be making her Canadian debut. Still in only her second year as a pro, O’Reilly has already wrestled internationally in the past year in mainland Europe and on SHIMMER’s pre-show. Trained initially for the ring by Canadian icon Lance Storm at the Storm Wrestling Academy, O’Reilly has continued to build on that training in the UK under well respected names such as Justin Richards & Saraya Knight.
It is likely she will need every trick she’s ever learned in her match at next month, where she will take on Ontarian veteran She Nay Nay, who has plenty of international experience herself, including wrestling in the UK and Ireland several years ago. She Nay Nay can chart her experience in FF right back to the opening match on Femmes Fatales I in 2009, and will be looking to add to her victory at Femmes Fatales VII over Angie Skye by adding a second consecutive win.
O’Reilly joins Jessie McKay, Hailey Hatred and Jazz in making her FF debut next month. Tickets can be obtained via the Femmes Fatales website
EVE v Ice Ribbon: Day 2 results
Day two of Pro Wrestling: EVE v Ice Ribbon is underway with a double header, kicking off with a matinee show before the finale this evening.
Matches that we know are taking place on tonight’s card include Shanna challenging Hikari Minami for the ICEx60 Championship – decided after Shanna and Erin Angel‘s loss to Emi Sakura and Minami on last night’s show – and Sakura will challenge Jenny Sjodin for the EVE title after the Female Fight Machine retained the belt by defeating her tag team partner April Davids in the main event.
Speaking of Davids, she is most likely not going to be wrestling on today’s shows after suffering a suspected broken ankle during her match with Sjodin. She originally damaged it while receiving a superplex, and was made worse when she dived from the top rope to the outside onto the champion. We wish her a speedy recovery.
