NHPW Global Conflict first round matches announced

NHPW GLobal ConflictIt’s about seven weeks until Australia’s New Horizons Pro Wrestling holds its Global Conflict tournament in Perth, and we now know the opening round matches which will take place, albeit with one competitor still to be announced for the show on the weekend of May 23-24.

The mouth-watering prospect of the quarter finals in this 8-woman tournament sees Kellie Skater face Evie. The pair have clashed in Pro Wrestling Australia action in the past – once in the semi-final of the PWWA Interim Title tournament and again later that year when the pair went to a 30 minute draw. Considering the extra international experience the pair will have acquired from trips to Japan and North America, this one can’t fail to be good.

Speaking of international action, two veterans from the northern hemisphere will be taking on younger talent as part of the quarters. America’s Mercedes Martinez will go against promising 17-year old Demi Bennett, while Briton and IndyGurlz Australia Champion Saraya Knight will take on Nikita Naridian.

The final match in the bracket sees Madison Eagles take on an as-yet unnamed opponent, who is reportedly being kept as a “surprise”, so we may be left on edge until showtime to see who Eagles will be facing.

Last year’s overall winner was Portia Perez, and you can see results of the two nights by clicking here and here, courtesy of our friends at NHB Girls.

Ringbelles Roundup (11 March 2014) – Divas Title picture, Maria Kanellis, NWWA & more

Brie Nikki Bella Natalya WWEIf the plan is still for AJ Lee to defend the Divas Championship against Naomi at WrestleMania XXX, then WWE is certainly going round the houses to do it – that’s if they’re even planning to do it.

Before her injury to her eye socket occurred, it was reported that the plan was for Naomi to be the one to end AJ’s mammoth title reign (which is now the longest run in WWE history be it for singular or combined reigns) though it was said that the plan would still be on for WrestleMania on April 6 if the Funkadactyl could be cleared in time. It was partly because of that possibility that AJ had a title defence against Cameron at Elimination Chamber and again on the subsequent SmackDown. However things have gone in another direction in the last week as there now seems to be a queue of pretenders to the throne.

Natalya made AJ tap out in a tag match on SmackDown on Friday and is to get a Divas Title shot on tonight’s live edition of Main Event. Meanwhile on last night Raw, Nikki Bella got the pin on the titleholder as part of another tag team match, after which she held up the Divas belt while Natalya – who was on commentary – looked on. It seems as if there is a bottleneck of challengers, though it’s also up in the air as to who the champion may be by the time we get to WrestleMania. (more…)

In Video: Nikita Naridian encounters a Storm

Toni Storm Nikita Naridian Rissa-Jade PhotographyA bit of Australian action this weekend for you, as we have a contest between two rising stars in the Aussie scene.

We spoke to Nikita Naridian (AKA Kellyanne English) in November 2012 for My Name Is – since then, she has trained at the Storm Wrestling Academy in Canada and also spent time learning in Mexico. Her opponent in this contest from United Pro Wrestling‘s Divided We Brawl show at the end of last November is Toni Storm, who has also enjoyed some international experience, spending an extended amount of time in England, taking booking for All-Star Wrestling.

Since we spoke to her, Naridian has changed up her look by dying her hair red, and has also worked on her heel character, while Storm is such a sympathetic baby face that it’s easy to get behind her. Click the jump to see what we mean. (more…)

Wrestling… YAY! – A Fortnight of Awesome

Rhi NHB GirlsA fortnight ago, I embarked on an adventure. It’s not unusual that I’d take a rather long drive or trip for wrestling – I have ventured to Sydney, South Australia and Canberra for this crazy passion of mine, but this… this was truly out of my comfort zone. Getting on a plane for five hours (my longest plane trip ever), to go and see a pretty awesome sounding wrestling show, was almost crazy to my friends. “You’re going where?! For what again?”

Touching down to Perth, a place two hours behind my home city, and it was by far one of the laid back places I have ever set foot in. After hanging out for a bit and taking in the sights on Friday, I made my way to the show, which was located about 20 minutes from the inner city of Perth.

A while ago, when the show was announced I was drawn to it instantly. Not just because international talent such as Portia Perez, Tomoka Nakagawa and Saraya Knight were scheduled to appear. But because an Australian promotion was taking the time and dedicating the Global Conflict tournament to women and opening the doors to women around the world. This type of feat needed to be respected, celebrated and recognised. Going over to Perth, seemed to be the next logical step for me, plus a great opportunity to see some local talent I had not seen before and a chance to see a personal dream match of mine (that being Kellie Skater v Nikita Naridian). Ringbelles Roundup (6 August 2013) – Evie, PWWA, Total Divas & more

Evie Cory LockwoodThere are a lot of women’s wrestling promotions in the northern half of the planet. SHIMMER, Femmes Fatales, Women Superstars Uncensored, SHINE, IndyGurlz, Lucha Libre Feminil, Bellatrix, Pro-Wrestling: EVE, Fierce Females, WAVE, OZ Academy, JWP, Diana, Ice Ribbon, and Sendai Girls, just to name a few. In addition, there are promotions with women’s divisions like Anarchy Championship Wrestling, Elite Canadian Championship Wrestling, Acclaim Pro Wrestling, Squared Circle Wrestling, World Xtreme Wrestling, AAA, CMLL, FutureShock, ABC Catch and more.

In the southern hemisphere, there are comparatively few – which means if you are the champion of one of those, you are in a much more exclusive club. While there are some like the IndyGurlz Australia title and the Riot City Wrestling Women’s strap, arguably the most prestigious belt in women’s wrestling is in the southern hemisphere is the one representing the Pro Women’s Wrestling Alliance, and it’s now officially held by a grappler who has spent the last year as the lady in waiting… (more…)

PWWA Champions United results: Evie v Madison Eagles in a title unification match

PWWA posterFor the last year, there have been two Pro Women’s Wrestling Alliance Champions – Madison Eagles held onto the championship during her convalescence for her knee injury, but in the meantime, Evie claimed the Interim Championship by beating Megan-Kate, Kellie Skater and Jessie McKay. Since Eagles’ return in January, both wrestlers have closed in on each other, and today sees them collide to determine who is the true PWWA Champion. The question is: has Eagles – through no fault of her own – given the upstart New Zealander too much time to settle into her role as Champion to the point where she is too tough to beat, or can she reclaim her spot as the sole top dog in PWWA?

Elsewhere on the card, there are a slew of debuting women like Olivia Shaw, Demi Bennett, Izzy, Shadow Shinobi and Ashley Sparks as well as the first ever PWWA Champion Skater facing the increasingly impressive Kellyanne English.

NHB Girls is at the show in Parramatta in the Sydney area and will have exclusive interviews coming up too. Click after the jump to catch the results, and find out who is going to be the Undisputed PWWA Champion… (more…)

Perez, Nakagawa & Knight to make Australian debuts

NHPW Portia Perez Tomoka Nakagawa Saraya Knight

New Horizons Pro Wrestling has a history of bringing the world’s best female wrestlers to Perth, Australia for matches which fans in the country would normally not have the opportunity to see without a mammoth amount of air travel. Nikki Roxx, Mercedes Martinez, Sara Del Rey and Cindy Rogers have all made the trip from the US, and as we speak, Amazing Kong is Down Under wrestling for the promotion.

On the weekend of July 26 and 27, NHPW presents its Global Conflict show, which certainly lives up to its name, as four countries are represented – and the representatives from the non-native nations are all making their Australian debuts… (more…)

Ringbelles Roundup (11 September 2012) – Jerry Lawler/LuFisto, Kaitlyn & Knockouts booking

Last night’s scary incident involving Jerry “The King” Lawler’s heart attack during the live broadcast of Monday Night Raw in Montreal, Quebec, Canada saw an outpouring of support across the Internet, with various woman involved in wrestling taking to Twitter to wish the WWE Hall Of Famer all the best. AJ Lee, Vickie Guerrero, Velvet Sky (who worked on shows with Lawler in Aruba at the weekend) and former wife Stacy Carter all expressed their sentiments.

Lawler’s current girlfriend Lauryn McBride took to her Facebook to let everyone know the situation:

Thanks everyone for your thoughts and prayers. It has been confirmed that Jerry did have a heart attack…he is in stable condition and breathing on his own & heart is stable. I’m getting on the first flight out of here to be with him & will keep everyone posted. He is a strong man and we will get him back at his best as soon as I can get him home! I love you so so much baby!!

Ringbelles Roundup (28 August 2012) – the Aussies & Kiwis, April Davids & more

There has been a lot of focus on the continent of Australasia recently, and most of it centres around one kick-happy wrestler from New Zealand.

As we have documented, Evie has been catapulted into everyone’s line of sight, winning both the IPW Women’s and PWWA Championships in the space of seven days – the first in a triple threat match with Megan-Kate and Britenay, and the latter against Jessie McKay just last Saturday.

When approached for comment, the Auckland resident told Ringbelles:

Winning the IPW Women’s Title and then the PWWA Interim Title… words can’t pinpoint the feelings I felt over those nights. I was extremely emotional… a few tears were shed, and it definitely is the highlight of my career to date. I came away from both matches battered and bruised, but it was all worth it in the end… after five years, I finally feel like a champion.

The fans have also been rad… I can’t believe how much support I received through those tournaments, both online and in person. It was amazing!

KC Cassidy on training with Lance Storm

KC Cassidy has recently returned from three months training with the Storm Wrestling Academy in Calgary, Alberta, Canada, and has offered some thoughts on her experience living abroad.

The former self-professed PWWA Champion – who claims she hails from Bitchville, Australia – wrote a blog for Australian women’s wrestling site NHB Girls about her time. You can click here to read the whole blog, but below are a couple of excerpts:

Lance [Storm] cares so much about his students and that shows when guys who have never trained before are able to walk away with three months of training and are able to confidently wrestle a match. Best decision I could have ever made for my career at this point was definitely going to Calgary to get trained by Lance.

I was able to prove to myself that hard work pays off and for me it paid off in a fantastic way.

Ringbelles Roundup (31 July 2012) – Beautiful People reunion, no Divas and more

Velvet Sky was released from TNA last week, and I’m sure it wasn’t a decision that she came to lightly. However, following the departure of her longtime tag team partner Angelina Love at the start of July, she thought out loud on Twitter about a Beautiful People reunion, and there was no way that could happen on TNA TV, so we should have read into that at the time. Well, now it’s set to happen, as Sky and Love (now going under her original guise of Angel Williams) will be on the same show for Northeast Wrestling on September 22 in Fiskhill, NY, and have been booked to participate in a tag team match for Family Wrestling Entertainment on October 5 in Brooklyn, NY against Maria Kanellis and a partner who has not been announced yet.

Like I pointed out when the news of her release was announced, Sky must imagine that there must be a lot of money on the table for the Beautiful People to do a tour. However, as well as taking the money on the table, both she and Williams have the opportunity to give back too. (more…)

More Aussies heading to North America

When Shazza McKenzie spoke to Ringbelles last November, she made it clear that she wanted to expand from being someone who had only ever wrestled in Australia. Indeed, she took inspiration from fellow Aussies Madison Eagles, Jessie McKay, Tenille Tayla and Kellie Skater in wanting to go overseas to wrestle, train and step out of her comfort zone. Next month, the 23-year old from Melbourne gets to do just that.

Shazza has revealed that she will be heading to the United States next month to train at CHIKARA’s Wrestle Factory, as well as with Combat Zone Wrestling for six weeks. While she is there, she will also be wrestling on some shows – in fact, the first one has been revealed, as she will take on Simply D’Vyne at IndyGurlz Battlefront VII in Lebanon, PA on March 10.

Speaking exclusively to Ringbelles, Shazza told us:

For a long time, ever since I started training, my main goal in this business was to go overseas and try to make a name for myself. I’ve been doing this for about 3 years now and I finally think I’m ready to give it a shot. My trip to America is all about getting as much experience and learning as much as I can in the time I’m there so hopefully I come back even better than ever. I really want this year to be my year, I know EVERYONE says that but I’m willing to give it everything I’ve got. Failure is not an option at this point.

In addition, 18-year old fellow Melbourne native Nikita Naridian (who wrestled on the most recent PWWA show as Kellyanne English) is heading to Canada soon to train at the celebrated Storm Wrestling Academy with former WWE, WCW and ECW star Lance Storm, following in the footsteps of other female wrestlers who travelled from overseas to train there. As well as Tayla, other graduates include Ireland’s Rhia O’Reilly and the Academy’s first female graduate, The Artiste Formerly Known As Becky James.
