In Video: Leva Bates… as a heel?!

I’ve been watching this TV show called Doomsday Preppers, where people get ready for the downfall of society as we know it. One of the theories is that there is going to be a “pole shift“, which means the magnetic field of the North and South Poles will flip, and will cause a sudden shift in the continents, triggering enormous earthquakes and rapid climate change. Essentially, it would change the world as we know it.

Similar shifts are taking place in the wrestling world, with women who have seemingly sat on one side of the tracks for a long time are sampling life on the other. Nicole Matthews has been wrestling as a babyface alongside her teammates in The Riot in Elite Canadian Championship Wrestling, while her fellow Canadian NINJA Portia Perez is teaming with former rival Rachel Summerlyn in Texas as part of Anarchy Championship Wrestling. Down in Florida, lovable babyface Leva Bates is exploring her dark side, not only by being a henchwoman of Aces And Eights in TNA, attacking Sting and Hulk Hogan, but also in Southern Championship Wrestling. I mean, just look at that photo… (more…)

Ringbelles Roundup (2 October 2012) – Sara Del Rey, TNA DVD ban, Alpha Female and more

“I don’t think there’s a better female wrestler in the world right now.”

Not my words – though I agree with them – but the words of WWE Champion CM Punk, who confirmed that Sara Del Rey has been employed as a trainer for the company and will be working in its developmental facilities in Florida.

We have stayed deathly quiet over Del Rey’s signing with WWE since we found out, as they notoriously hate their private business affairs being discussed openly, and would not want to jeopardise the position of anyone signing a contract with them. For that reason, we wait until the ink is dry and they appear in WWE facilities. That happened on September 28 when Bill DeMott sent out a Tout video of Joey Mercury, Norman Smiley and Del Rey in NXT trainers’ shirts offering a small pitch for wrestlers to come and try out. A photo of the trainers soon followed, and then came the confirmation from Punk at the Ohio Comic Con on September 29.

“We recently hired Sara Del Rey to train our future Divas. I know a lot of people will be like, ‘Oh, that sucks, Sara should be on television’ and maybe you’re right, but I’ve talked to her about it. This is her dream job. She gets to wrestle everyday and she gets paid for it.” (more…)

WSU Full Steam Ahead card is complete

Women Superstars Uncensored has been rearranging furniture since being taken over by Beyond Wrestling following the Uncensored Rumble V iPPV back in June.

At the time, we gave our initial impressions of the acquisition, and also spoke to new owner Drew Cordiero as part of episode 42 of the Women Of Wrestling Podcast – and left feeling impressed with the direction being taken, especially since we had issues in the past with small attendance numbers and poor production of the iPPVs. Next month, WSU returns to Deer Park, NY for its first card under the Beyond Wrestling umbrella as part of three events over the span of one day – with one of those being an interpromotional show, followed by the comeback WSU event, entitled Full Steam Ahead. SHINE 3 results – now with thoughts and images

SHINE Wrestling hits iPPV this evening for its third monthly instalment with nods to the past, present and future.

For the past, the promotion is honouring stars from yesteryear; the present is the card (which we will run down in just a moment); and the future is the announcement on the show which will affect both SHINE and big sister promotion SHIMMER: Women Athletes.

The big matches on the show see Jazz take on Rain, while Jazz’s rival Mercedes Martinez meets Jayme Jameson (plus Jazz and Martinez are banned from interacting), and Jessicka Havok steps into the ring against Mia Yim. Elsewhere, four women make their debuts (get more info on them here), and Made In Sin engage in their first singles matches in the promotion.

You can order the iPPV by clicking here, or you can click the jump and keep hitting refresh to see the results as they happen. (more…)

RUSH HOUR with Courtney Rush, Episode 3

RUSH HOUR with Courtney Rush, Episode 3: w/ Leva Bates
Courtney Rush returns with another edition of RUSH HOUR… and she’s joined at the wheel by fellow geek and “Queen of Cosplay” Leva Bates for an hour (or so) of banter. Amongst the topics up for discussion include a catch-up session as to what’s been going on since March with Sara Del Rey and the SHIMMER Tag Titles situation, and whether there’s any heat from Courtney that Leva appears to be jumping the queue for a shot at the Canadian NINJAs. There’s quite a bit of chat about this recent column, including female wrestling as a fetish, whether it’s OK to remark on someone being hot without being labelled a pervert, and whether we should really be against models in wrestling (which gives Leva a chance to espouse her idea of wrestling as Jambalaya.) There’s a look at some of the best (and worst) examples of models turned wrestlers, and to finish, Courtney calls out fans who blindly support *all* women’s wrestling and are scared to give negative feedback for bad matches. Note: don’t tell her that she’s “good for a girl” if you value your continued health.

You can read the results and our thoughts on the inaugural show by clicking here.

Ringbelles Roundup (24 July 2012) – SHINE, PWWA, Raw 1000 & more

There was been a lot of talk about SHINE Wrestling in the lead up to the first Internet PPV on Friday night, and plenty more afterward, with plenty of comments from both people who where there, as well as fans who watched online.

For that reason, we asked Joe Vitale – who was at the Oprheum in Ybor City, FL – what he thought of the show, as he got to experience the atmosphere first hand. Below are some of his reactions:

“I like the setup for the show; it felt like a good introduction to the characters and styles of the workers and it was nice that almost all of the ladies came off like individuals to be interested in rather than “Brunette girl 1″… I really like how well the heels interacted with the crowd, Jayme Jamison and Allyson Kay/Taylor Made made fans out of my non-wrestling friends.”

Overall, one can view the show as being a big success, which built to a tremendous crescendo with Sara Del Rey falling to Jazz in the main event. Nikki Roxx and Rain may only wrestle on a limited basis these days but had a good outing which shows that they have a lot to offer both in in-ring activities but also knowledge that they can impart onto younger talent. Mercedes Martinez and Leva Bates had a tidy outing that set Martinez up for an apparent match against Jazz on SHINE 2 on August 17, and Bates proved that despite wearing a Spider-Man outfit, slinging webs and hanging upside down, there is a wrestler in there who can work, and is ready to get serious. SHINE 1 results – updated with images and thoughts

Take a look at the front page – there’s a lot to do with SHINE on there, and with good reason, as this could be the start of something pretty exciting. Monthly Internet pay-per-views featuring women’s wrestling – it’s an enticing prospect, and we at Ringbelles are looking forward to seeing what happens.

It all kicks off tonight with SHINE 1 from the Orpheum in Ybor City, Florida (order here), headlined by the “Queen of Wrestling” Sara Del Rey meeting the “Female Fighting Phenom” Jazz, and also features seven other matches. We urge you to buy the iPPV to check it out for yourselves, or watch the replay on Video On Demand – but if you can’t, we have the results and goings-on after the jump, and will also have some thoughts on the show coming too. Keep refreshing the page for results and developments as they happen as we jump into SHINE… (more…)

Shine Wrestling: Scouting Report

This Friday, Shine Wrestling debuts with their first of what is planned to be monthly iPPVs through WWN. Fight Like A Girl: Leva Bates

“I’m not just a costume and a good giggle.”

Leva Bates stopped by to talk about the debut of SHINE Wrestling and her third ever encounter with Mercedes Martinez. She discusses how she has changed over time, and how she is ready to get more serious in the ring, as evidenced by her match against LuFisto at WSU’s Uncensored Rumble last month. Leva also talks about networking with other women, what she thinks about Daffney and Lexie Fyfe directing SHINE, and how she and Allison Danger are gunning for the SHIMMER Tag Team Championship following the Canadian Ninjas regaining the belts a week ago.

WSU Uncensored Rumble V results – now updated with thoughts

As we discussed in this week’s Roundup, it’s the end of an era for Women Superstars Uncensored, as the ownership changes hands tonight, with the new owners being announced during the iPPV being shown on Go Fight Live. The main event match pits WSU Champion Jessicka Havok defending the title against Mercedes Martinez in a Casket Match (an image of which you can see to your left), with other matches at the top of the card being Sassy Stephie v Brittney Savage in an Uncensored Rules match, Lexxus taking on Alicia, and Allysin Kay meeting newcomer Terra Calaway.

Elsewhere, the WSU and nCw: Femmes Fatales relationship kicks off with Kalamity defending the International Championship against Sweet Cherrie, and LuFisto wrestling Leva Bates. At the start of next month, the roles are reversed, as the Midwest Militia of Havok, Kay and Stephie travel to Montreal to face Courtney Rush and two undetermined partners.

The other big encounter tonight is the Uncensored Rumble itself, with the winner becoming the number one contender to the WSU title. Lee’s pick to win was Rain, but she has had to miss show due to illness, so with that prediction out of the window, we will be watching like everyone else to see who emerges as the victor.

We will be adding results as they happen here on the site, so click after the jump and keep refreshing to keep up with all the goings on.

In Video: New SHINE names put in the spotlight

Earlier this week, we revealed the poster for SHINE 1, as well as giving some background of the more unfamiliar faces sandwiching Sara Del Rey. As we mentioned, Reby Sky is trying to shake off the stigma of being a model turned wrestler – a Playboy model turned wrestler, no less – by travelling anywhere to gain more experience, while Santana Garrett is a fixture on Florida’s indie scene, working at a number of different promotions like NWA Ring Warriors, I Believe In Wrestling and Coastal Championship Wrestling. However, to add a bit more flavour, we’ve got a couple of matches so you can see them in action. (more…)

SHIMMER Volumes 43 & 44 results and thoughts

Day Two of SHIMMER is in the history books, and now that the smoke has cleared from the shimnanigan-filled afterparty, it’s time to go back and review an absolutely amazing day of action. In my opinion, Day Two (encompassing Vols 43 & 44) was a stronger day of tapings than Day One, featuring many great matches and topped off with a history making Vol 44.

In male pre-show action, the team of Knight Wagner, Jordan McIntyre and the indiest man alive (a wrestler I failed to identify, but who wore the indytastic combination of a mask, t-shirt and pleather pants) defeated Team CLASH. After that, SPARKLE action saw Jett Riley & Kimberley Maddox beat December & Buggy Nova, while KC Spinelli pinned Su Yung with a hard powerslam.

Volume 43

1. LuFisto pinned Maja Svensson with the Mangalizer.
2. ReGeneration X (Allison Danger & Leva Bates) beat Sassy Stephie & Nevaeh after a Sonic Screwdriver on Stephie.
3. Nicole Matthews pinned Davina Rose with a Roll Of The Dice.
4. Hiroyo Matsumoto defeated Kellie Skater with a side suplex.
5. Saraya Knight pinned Ariel after a Sunset Flip Powerbomb.
6. Courtney Rush pinned Nikki Roxx following an Angle Slam.
7. Yumi Ohka pinned Mia Yim with a bridging Tiger Suplex.
8. MsChif pinned Tomoka Nakagawa after a Desecrator.
9. Mercedes Martinez & Athena went to a double countout. After the match, Athena wanted to restart, but Martinez walked off.
10. Jessie McKay pinned Britani Knight following a Boyfriend Stealer. Afterwards, Saraya Knight came out and berated Britani for letting down the Knight family name, and disowned her – suggesting she could put out a want ad and find a better daughter than Britani. Britani eventually snapped and the two brawled in a breathtaking extended pull-apart brawl. Britani vows to leave, but wants one match with her mother on Vol 44 to settle it all.
11. Serena Deeb pinned Portia Perez in an amazing no holds barred match, after spearing Perez off a table the two were standing on at the time.
12. Cheerleader Melissa defeated Kana after an Air Raid Crash. Post match, ring announcer Joey Eastman revealed that the win made Melissa the new top contender for Madison Eagles’ SHIMMER Championship.
13. SHIMMER Tag Team Titles: Ayako Hamada & Ayumi Kurihara (c) defeated Madison Eagles & Sara Del Rey to retain their titles after Hamada pinned Del Rey with an AP Cross.

Volume 44

1. Kellie Skater pinned Davina Rose after a Skate or Die.
2. Taylor Made pinned Veda Scott with a neckbreaker.
3. Kalamity pinned Tomoka Nakagawa with a Kalamity Driver.
4. Sassy Stephie & Neveah beat Ashley Lane & Mia Yim with a Kiss My Sass from Stephie on Yim. Former partners Nevaeh & Ashley Lane had already brawled to the back.
5. Serena Deeb pinned Yumi Ohka with a Spear.
6. ReGeneration X, Christina Von Eerie & MsChif beat Mena Libra, Melanie Cruise, She Nay Nay & Bonesaw when Von Eerie pinned She Nay Nay with a Pedigree.
7. Hiroyo Matsumoto pinned Jessie McKay with a side suplex.
8. Sara Del Rey pinned Courtney Rush with a Royal Butterfly.
9. Athena beat Mercedes Martinez via DQ when Martinez blatantly used a steel chair to attack the ankle of Athena. This seemed to cement a double turn, as Martinez was booed, while Athena was cheered. Athena pledged to get back at Martinez, but claimed she thought her leg was broken.
10. Kana beat LuFisto with the Kana Lock.
11. Britani Knight pinned Saraya Knight in a no DQ match with a Knight Light DDT.
12. SHIMMER Tag Team Titles: Ayako Hamada & Ayumi Kurihara (c) beat The Canadian NINJAs (Portia Perez & Nicole Matthews) after Kurihara pinned Perez after an Exploder Suplex.
13. SHIMMER Title: Cheerleader Melissa pinned Madison Eagles (c) with a rollup after escaping the Hellbound – NEW CHAMPION. After celebrating with the fans, Melissa was jumped and assaulted by Nicole Matthews, who claimed that this was “her time” now.
