Ringbelles Roundup (11 June 2013) – Kaitlyn’s secret admirer, Kalamity, Brittney Savage, Gorgeous George and more

Big E Langston Kaitlyn WWESo Kaitlyn’s secret admirer was Big E Langston, as many originally assumed it would be. However, there was a sting in the tail, as Langston was sending the notes as a way to build up the Divas Champion to knock her down as part of a nefarious plan with AJ Lee.

Last night on Raw, Kaitlyn took the ring to ask for whoever had been sending her the notes and gifts, and had a look of bewilderment on her face as it was Big E who was revealed to be the one behind it all. He pointed out that it does appear to be a bit weird and awkward, but softened her with his words. As he moved closer for a kiss, he learnt her back for a romantic smooch, but let her fall to the floor. At that moment, AJ’s music hit and she came skipping to the ring to reveal that it was all one big head game ahead of their title match this Sunday at Payback.

AJ’s reasoning for doing it was that she felt that Kaitlyn had not supported her enough after Daniel Bryan dumped her last year and she went off the rails, and was more focussed on winning the Divas Championship. What Lee is leaving out is that Kaitlyn actually was there for support and to get her back on track, but AJ slapped her on two separate occasions before the friendship fell apart. The pair briefly reunited at the end of last year before AJ turned full-blown heel at TLC and aligned herself with Dolph Ziggler, but it was never meant to last.

AJ became the number one contender to the Divas strap by winning a battle royal on April 22, and since then it has been pushed to one side when it wasn’t convenient to address it. The pair had a backstage set-to at Extreme Rules, but that has been the only real storyline development until last night. (more…)

Courtney Rush gets #1 Contender match with Cheerleader Melissa; Entire FFXII card now revealed

melissa-rush
The breaking news that Kalamity would be taking an undetermined time off from pro wrestling left a hole in the card for Femmes Fatales XII in Montreal on July 6th – not only in general due to the important part Kalamity has played as a featured performer on every show to date, but also more specifically because just a few days ago, she was scheduled to take on Courtney Rush in a clash of top contenders on that show.

However, Courtney was not left needing a new opponent for very long – as she is now scheduled to face the current SHIMMER Champion Cheerleader Melissa next month. The match, which will see neither Rush’s Bellatrix Title nor Melissa’s SHIMMER Title on the line, will have high stakes. Whereas Rush vs Kalamity was considered an unofficial top contender’s match in the NCW:FF rankings, this match is outright billed as a #1 Contender Match – with the winner getting a title shot at the winner of Mercedes Martinez vs Sweet Cherrie. Rush/Melissa is a rematch from their SHIMMER Title match on SHIMMER Volume 55, which was won by Melissa – but in Femmes Fatales, Rush is on a three fight win streak, and will be looking to use this match to not only secure herself a shot at the NCW:FF International Championship, but to lay down a marker to SHIMMER management as well that she is capable of beating Melissa. Kalamity stepping away from pro-wrestling

Kalamity LuFistoIn a breaking news story today, it has been announced that former NCW:Femmes Fatales champion Kalamity is stepping away from the wrestling business. No reason was given, and we have been asked to respect her privacy at this time. The official announcement came from Kalamity’s trainer LuFisto on facebook this afternoon. She writes:

Dear fans and wrestling colleagues,

It’s with infinite sadness that I do have the duty to announce to everybody that Kalamity won’t be wrestling anymore, at least for an undetermined period.

No comments will be made besides this one and no questions will be answered. Please know that Kalamity is not sick. This decision is really personal to her and we please ask you to respect her privacy and personal life.

I am so proud of everything she accomplished in the past years under my tutelage. She worked very hard as she always took on challenges with determination. She was a wonderful student but mostly, she is a wonderful human being and I love as if she were my own daughter. (more…)

Courtney Rush takes on Kalamity at Femmes Fatales XII; One more try for Perez and Pink Flash

kalamity-rush
NCW:Femmes Fatales today announced the latest two additions to their July 6th Femmes Fatales XII card – one is a battle of two of the promotion’s top stars, while the other is a second attempt at doing a match that was originally meant to take place at Femmes Fatales XI this past March.

In the first of the announced matches today, “The Oncoming Storm” Kalamity will battle Courtney Rush – both coming off high profile main events at FFXI, but both with very different results. Whereas Kalamity lost her grip on the NCW:FF International Title to challenger Mercedes Martinez in a hard-hitting affair, Courtney Rush pulled off a potentially career defining win over Allison Danger to secure the Bellatrix World Title. The Bellatrix Title will not be on the line in the match, but pride, momentum and rankings certainly will be. Kalamity needs a victory to return her to winning ways and prepare herself for another run at Martinez (and a chance at retribution), while Rush needs a victory to confirm her status as an emerging Femmes Fatales headliner in her own right (she is on a three fight win streak) and perhaps continue a run towards an eventual match with the winner of the Mercedes Martinez/Sweet Cherrie main event. Ringbelles Roundup (7 May 2013) – the European scene, Mickie James & more

22 Kay Lee RayI’m still buzzing after Insane Championship Wrestling’s Fierce Females show on Saturday, which culminated with Kay Lee Ray winning her first ever championship when she won the tournament to become the inaugural Scottish titleholder. Beating Rhia O’Reilly and Viper in two very different contests, she proved that she is versatile and dependable as a main event talent. However, it was more than just KLR who impressed, with her defeated opponents also impressing, along with Carmel Jacob, Bete Noire, Erin Angel and Blue Nikita putting together great outings, and North American talent like Leah Von Dutch and Crazy Mary Dobson also entertaining. In fact, those two elements got me thinking…

First off, women’s wrestling fans are doing themselves a disservice by ignoring Europe. While places like America, Canada, Japan and Mexico are places which get a lot of attention, there are now three major all-women’s indie promotions to speak of in the UK alone, and plenty of skilled women from all over the continent looking to make their mark, and they can make it in the likes of Fierce Females, Pro Wrestling: EVE and Bellatrix because of their differing standpoints. WOW Podcast #56 with LuFisto

WOW LuFisto 2

Episode 56 with LuFisto

On April 6th at the iPPV broadcast of SHIMMER Vol 53, Montreal’s “Super Hardcore Anime” LuFisto crashed out on a moonsault to the floor during her match – a landing which caused what is medically referred to as an “exploded kneecap”. Now, a month (and a surgery) later, LuFisto talks exclusively to the Women of Wrestling Podcast, and updates us on her current status. LuFi takes us back to that fateful afternoon and gives us a blow by blow account what happened in the ring, the immediate aftermath in the back and the days following. She’s also got an update on the injury status of her pupil Kalamity, who feared she had broken her foot in training in the last week. We talk about some of the things that she missed out on because of her injury, including SHIMMER the following weekend, her WSU World Title shot at Jessicka Havok and her being stripped of the NSPW Title. We talk rehab – including the part BonRoxx Fitness is playing in helping her get back to her best – and estimate her return date. We talk her experiences in AAA, her admiration for Konnan and her future in that company; her feud with Mercedes Martinez in WSU & NCW:FF; facing Saraya Knight and Jazz; taking on Ivelisse in SHINE and ambitions to face Tara some day. We also revisit the comments made by Al Snow following her Gut Check for TNA and her current feelings on the Gut Check Challenge voting, and there’s quite a deep discussion on LuFisto’s ever-changing relationship with the business, what it means to have “succeeded” in wrestling, and bring up the prospect of retirement. It’s a pretty exhaustive hour and a half with an awesome lady. Download, spread the word and enjoy.

In Video: Femmes Fatales Championship on the line

426043_310382679024695_152163664_nIt’s “Femmes Fatales” day here on Ringbelles, as we count down the hours to the big Femmes Fatales XI card happening this evening in Montreal, Quebec. Barring any technical hitches, we intend to bring you live results from the show as they happen – and while they’re now down to three title matches instead of four with the withdrawal of WSU Champion Jessicka Havok, the show still looks incredibly strong, and will be headlined with the defence number 17 of the NCW: Femmes Fatales International Championship by “The Oncoming Storm” Kalamity.

The following match is from last year’s WrestleReunion show held under the Pro Wrestling Superstars banner – held in Toronto, ON, Canada on April 14. Kalamity’s title defence against inaugural champion – and the woman she defeated for the title – LuFisto was the sole women’s match on the card, and both women were determined to make a big impression. Click the jump and decide for yourself if they managed it. We’ll see you later for results from FFXI… (more…)

Ringbelles Roundup (26 March 2013) – Bellatrix growth, Femmes Fatales XI, WrestleMania

Bellatrix rosterNot making it to Bellatrix 5 in Norwich, England on Sunday may have been unfortunate, but it did provide me the opportunity to utilise the option to watch the show on iPPV. Considering a lot of the changes from Bellatrix 4 last November were being done because of this one being broadcast live, it was interesting to be able to assess if those changes were successful.

They were.

Improvements to aesthetics like giant wall hangings of the roster, an improved entranceway, ringside barriers and more attention paid to start and running times were coupled with the venue being a purpose-built TV studio with full-scale lights and sound systems, the Epic Studios in Norwich looked vastly different to 5 months ago. The benefit of it being a proper studio also made it easier for the show to be streamed online, as the facilities to broadcast were all there, and had been tried and tested with previous unrelated shows. As a result, Bellatrix 5 was one of the slickest women’s wrestling iPPVs produced to date. (more…)

DVD Review: WSU An Ultraviolent Affair (9 February 2013)

WSU An Ultraviolent AffairWomen Superstars Uncensored kicks off its double header shows with Combat Zone Wrestling with a title defence by Champion Jessicka Havok against Athena, while Mercedes Martinez and LuFisto look to put their issues to rest in a Falls Count Anywhere Match.

Results
1. Nevaeh pinned Jessie Brooks (w/ Sammy Geodollno) with a bridging German Suplex.
2. Christina Von Eerie pinned Kimber Lee (w/ Annie Social) with a straight-jacket lungblower.
3. Uncensored Opportunity: Veda Scott pinned Niya with the Mind Trip, although Niya’s foot was on the ropes. Special referee Jana did not spot this.

WSU “An Ultraviolent Affair” results – now updated with thoughts

155917_421794477894502_243783641_nWomen Superstars Uncensored returns today with their first show since October’s “Full Steam Ahead” with their debut in a new area, as part of a CZW double header in Voorhees, NJ. Unfortunately, due to the major snowstorms in the North East, the show appears to have been decimated due to talent being unable to get to the venue, resulting in a hastily re-jigged show. Weather related issues have stopped the WSU Tag Team Champions Allysin Kay & Sassy Stephie making the show, along with Marti Belle, Tina San Antonio, Lexxus & Nikki Addams. It’s not the first time a WSU card has been weather-afflicted, as last year’s joint show with PWS in New Jersey was also heavily affected.

However, the show must go on – and with the main event of Jessicka Havok defending her WSU Title against Athena still intact, as well as the potentially show-stealing semi main of Mercedes Martinez vs LuFisto in a Falls Count Anywhere match, there’s still a lot of potential in this show. Click through after the page break for coverage. (more…)

Ringbelles Roundup (25 December 2012) – Arisa Nakajima, Veda Scott, 100th Roundup & more

Arisa Nakajima - new JWP Openweight Champion. Photo: Youji KawauchiEmi Sakura has had a hell of a year, and it’s been well documented here at Ringbelles. Her success since leaving Ice Ribbon has included setting up her own promotion in Thailand, having it migrate to Japan, winning the JWP/Daily Sports Tag Team Championship, securing the services of Kaori Yoneyama then having her take her side in some sort of Stockholm Syndrome scenario, forming a team to invade JWP and then taking hold of the promotion’s crown jewel by winning the Openweight Championship. In addition, she defended the belt in the UK for the first time in its history and won the Pro Wrestling: EVE Championship on the same night. Indeed, it has been one hell of a year for the 36 year old. However, it seems as if 2012 is going to end on a mildly disappointing note.

Yesterday, 17-year veteran dropped the Openweight Title in the main event of Climax 2012 at Tokyo’s Korakuen Hall after 57 days – the second shortest reign in the title’s 20 year history (for the record, the shortest was Devil Masami’s 32 day run which ended when the title was vacated for unknown reasons). She was beaten by current Tag Team Champion Arisa Nakajima, who has also enjoyed a tremendous 2012. (more…)

SHIMMER debuts and returns, Femmes Fatales main events announced, WSU teases intergender match

Evie, Madison Eagles and Amazing Kong will be at SHIMMER 53Have you listened to the latest edition of the Women Of Wrestling Podcast yet? Featuring the heads of SHIMMER, NCW Femmes Fatales and Women Superstars Uncensored, Dave Prazak, Stephane Bruyere and Drew Cordiero spoke frankly on a number of topics such as their respective fortunes in 2012, the pros and cons of booking former WWE Divas or TNA Knockouts on a show and what they think of iPPV. Amongst all the great chat, each took the time to reveal nuggets of what we should expect in 2013 from their respective promotions.

For SHIMMER, Prazak revealed that at at the volume 53 show on April 6 in Secaucus, NJ as part of the WrestleCon event will see the return of two big stars and the debut of one of women’s wrestling’s hottest prospects. Former SHIMMER Champion Madison Eagles – who has been out of action since October 2011 with a devastating knee injury – will make her long-awaited return to the promotion where she reigned supreme between April 2010 and last October, where she dropped the belt to Cheerleader Melissa on volume 42. Her injury occurred mere days later as she was in training ahead of her match against Kana for CHIKARA , with a mere double stomp causing all the problems. At the time, she was told that she could either rest and see if the injury healed of its own accord, or have surgery which would end her career. (more…)

Femmes Fatales X – Thoughts and Opinions

I’ve had a few days to knock up my thoughts on NCW: Femmes Fatales X from this past Saturday at the Centre St-Barthelemy in Montreal. A few days that have given me a little distance from the show, both mentally and physically (I’m now sitting back in my home over 3,200 miles away). I’m working from memory that has already been through the jet-lag wringer, so apologies if I’m a little vague with anything I struggle to remember clearly.

This was the first time that the NCW crew had decided to run a SHIMMER-style double taping, and I think there were some definite positives and definite negatives to the decision. On a positive note, I enjoyed the shows and got to see over 20 matches featuring talents from around the world – but on the other hand, the show felt different to the one I attended in March, and I wonder how much of that was due to the raised ticket prices possibly turning off local casual fans. Yes, there were lots of travelling fans (a good few having been at SHIMMER the weekend before), but the atmosphere was certainly lacking during the first taping especially, and the audience seemed far harder to rouse. Had FFX ended after the first taping, I think I’d have been disappointed, but luckily the second half of the show redeemed the day, both by producing better matches and by the crowd finally loosening up and reacting. I’m pretty certain that this double taping was an experiment rather than the new status quo at FF, and I’m sure that’s something that management will be looking at going into 2013. (more…)

Ringbelles Roundup (6 November 2012) – experiencing live wrestling, Femmes Fatales and more

Allysin Kay, Santana Garrett, Ryo Mizunami, Heidi Lovelace, Thunderkitty, Su Yung, Shazza McKenzie, Angelus Layne, Sweet Cherrie, Mary Lee Rose, Deziree, Missy, Medianne, Xandra Bale, Leah Von Dutch, Jewells Malone, Serphentina, Angie Skye & Pink Flash Kira all share a common thread with me in relation to all the wrestling I’ve seen in the last few weeks – seven shows since October 26, and two more to come this weekend, where I can add Kaori Yoneyama and Angelina Love to that list. They are all wrestlers who I have seen live for the first time, and I think that’s a massively important thing to be excited about.

While at SHIMMER, the discussion took place about Lexie Fyfe’s announcement as part of the heel team for the elimination match which headlined volume 50, with the assertion that if you merely read the results, or even saw it on DVD, it would not generate the same reaction or experience as watching it live. At the Berwyn Eagles Club, RPM by Sugar Ray hit and there was a wave of excitement as the recognition sunk into fans’ heads, realising that Fyfe would be wrestling her first SHIMMER match since May 3, 2009, where she and Malia Hosaka fell to Ariel and Nikki Roxx. It was a nice throwback to a previous generation, and provided a lovely nostalgic feeling. Had you just seen the result on paper, or knowing that it was going to happen, it may not have garnered the same buzz. (more…)

nCw Femmes Fatales X results (updated with photo gallery)

nCw Femmes Fatales celebrated its tenth show with a bumper double edition this evening in Montreal, Quebec, Canada. As well as the main event of taping #2 – a cage match between LuFisto and Mercedes MartinezKalamity defended the International Championship against Kellie Skater in a 2 out of 3 falls match, with the first fall being decided by pinfall; the second by submission, and the third to be a no-DQ, falls count anywhere affair. Meanwhile, whoever walked out of that match as Champion would have to face the winner of a four-way between Cheerleader Melissa, Athena, X-Cute Sweet and Angie Skye in the semi-main of the final taping.

SHIMMER Volumes 51 & 52 DVD taping results (updated with thoughts on both Vols and photo gallery)

After a bumper day 1 yesterday which saw a number of storyline developments in both title pictures and one of the best matches in the promotion’s history, SHIMMER: Women Athletes returns for the second day of its weekend of DVD tapings.

Yesterday, Ayako Hamada and Kana competed in an epic encounter which saw the veteran gain the victory, though both women came out looking stronger than ever. In the 5-on-5 main event of volume 50, ReGeneration X and the Tag Team Champions Canadian Ninjas had hands in eliminating each other – with Allison Danger ousting Nicole Matthews before being pinned by Portia Perez – while Cheerleader Melissa pinned singles titleholder Sweet Saraya to end the match, which could see them cross paths again at some point today.

No matches have been announced for volumes 51 and 52, though if yesterday was anything to go by, fans at the Berwyn Eagles Club are in for another treat. As with yesterday, the Ringbelles team is on hand to provide results, as well as photos and thoughts later on. Click the jump to keep up with what’s going on…

SHIMMER volumes 49 & 50 DVD taping results (updated with thoughts on both Vols and photo gallery)

It’s rolled around again. More than 30 female wrestlers have gathered at the Eagles Club in Berwyn, IL for the latest round of DVD tapings for SHIMMER: Women Athletes, which includes the milestone volume 50 later today. A number of matches have been announced, but before we get to that, results from last night…

At yesterday’s AAW show, Athena defeated Nicole Matthews, Kellie Skater & Christina Von Eerie in a four way match where Matthews and Skater spent much of the contest playing a game of one-up by doing moves on Athena, but after it descended into a four way brawl, Athena nailed Nicole with the O-Face for the pinfall. Later on, Sweet Saraya retained the SHIMMER Championship by pinning MsChif following a wild, building-wide brawl which left both women with very visible battle scars. The end came when Truth Martini interfered to spit green mist into the challenger’s eyes.

Today, some matches have been announced. For volume 49, Saraya defends her title against Athena, while the Canadian Ninjas put the SHIMMER Tag Team Championships on the line against LuFisto and Kana. Elsewhere, SHIMMER Originals Mercedes Martinez and MsChif square off in a rematch from volume 20, where MsChif retained the SHIMMER Title in one of the best title defences up to that point. Also on the card, Leva Bates tangles with Kellie Skater, while nCw Femmes Fatales International Champion Kalamity faces Ayako Hamada.

Meanwhile, for volume 50, the SHIMMER Originals of Martinez, MsChif, Allison Danger and Cheerleader Melissa are involved in a 10-woman elimination match – which we are dubbing SHIM-vivor Series II, where teams of five strive to survive – and a “first time in SHIMMER singles bout” will take place, though you can let your minds run riot as to what it will be.

We will be updating results intermittently throughout the day, so keep hitting refresh for results – and after the show, we’ll upload thoughts and maybe some pictures…

Ringbelles Roundup (23 October 2012) – women in WWE, AJ Lee, SHIMMER and more

Funny how the past comes back to haunt you.

In June, while she was still campaigning to be Connecticut Republican candidate for the US Senate, Linda McMahon’s past as the CEO of World Wrestling Entertainment was brought up, including the effect the programming may have had on women and men’s views of how to treat women. One particular incident keeps cropping up – the segment on the March 5, 2001 episode of Raw Is War when Linda’s husband Vince forced Trish Stratus to crawl on all fours, bark like a dog and then strip in the middle of the ring, all in an attempt to humiliate and degrade her.

Even at the time, the event was seen as so offensive that it was never shown in the UK, and it is still great ammunition for opponents of McMahon. Back in June, Linda’s opponent Chris Shays said during a debate: “I think when you force a woman to take off all her clothes in an arena, and get down on the ground and bark like a dog, I think that’s assault on women.” (more…)

WSU Full Steam Ahead card is complete

Women Superstars Uncensored has been rearranging furniture since being taken over by Beyond Wrestling following the Uncensored Rumble V iPPV back in June.

At the time, we gave our initial impressions of the acquisition, and also spoke to new owner Drew Cordiero as part of episode 42 of the Women Of Wrestling Podcast – and left feeling impressed with the direction being taken, especially since we had issues in the past with small attendance numbers and poor production of the iPPVs. Next month, WSU returns to Deer Park, NY for its first card under the Beyond Wrestling umbrella as part of three events over the span of one day – with one of those being an interpromotional show, followed by the comeback WSU event, entitled Full Steam Ahead.
