Fight Like A Girl: Crazy Mary Dobson
Crazy Mary Dobson may be known for deathmatches and spilling blood like in the picture you see above, but the 19-year old has wider ambitions. After her appearance at Insane Championship Wrestling‘s weekend at the start of this month, we felt we should grab some time with her to discuss everything that she has going on in her career at the moment.
So, we cover her Fierce Females match with Bete Noire, taking on Jack Jester and the “Suicidal, Suicidal, Suicidal” Jimmy Havoc the following night, her experiences of Scotland and its fans, deathmatches, what her family think of her hardcore antics, plans to return to Japan and debut in Mexico, the upcoming Girl Fight Wrestling show and her main event match against Jazz, and whether facing the “Female Fighting Phenom” is a scarier prospect that being hit in the head with a light tube.

Ringbelles Retro: Past Queen & King of the Ring matches, plus a pre-WWE AJ Lee
This weekend sees Women Superstars Uncensored return to iPPV (click here to order) with its Queen and King of the Ring show – changing the gender titles around from how it has been since the gimmick started back in 2006. As well as the intergender tournament – which is being held in conjunction with Combat Zone Wrestling, moving away from having the male roster members come from National Wrestling Superstars – the show will also see a singles male v female contest with WSU Champion Jessicka Havok facing CZW’s Sami Callihan.
The first winners of the tournament were Julio Dinero and Kara Slice – the latter of whom found fame in WWE as Cherry, the sweet but put-upon girlfriend/sister of Deuce and Domino. Last year’s victors were Mike Dennis and Jennifer Cruz, though Cruz has faded out of the WSU picture in the 12 months since her regal victory.
We have two matches for this week’s Retro, both of which have been released for free by WSU in the past couple of days to whet your appetite ahead of this Saturday’s event. The first is from the first round brackets in 2009, with then-WSU Tag Team Champion Miss April - now better known as WWE’s AJ Lee – alongside her trainer Jay Lethal taking on Trixie Lynn & Helter Skelter. We also have former Extreme Championship Wrestling colleagues Jazz & Balls Mahoney facing Amber O’Neal & Bison Bravado from the opening round in 2010. On April 6th at the iPPV broadcast of SHIMMER Vol 53, Montreal’s “Super Hardcore Anime” LuFisto crashed out on a moonsault to the floor during her match – a landing which caused what is medically referred to as an “exploded kneecap”. Now, a month (and a surgery) later, LuFisto talks exclusively to the Women of Wrestling Podcast, and updates us on her current status. LuFi takes us back to that fateful afternoon and gives us a blow by blow account what happened in the ring, the immediate aftermath in the back and the days following. She’s also got an update on the injury status of her pupil Kalamity, who feared she had broken her foot in training in the last week. We talk about some of the things that she missed out on because of her injury, including SHIMMER the following weekend, her WSU World Title shot at Jessicka Havok and her being stripped of the NSPW Title. We talk rehab – including the part BonRoxx Fitness is playing in helping her get back to her best – and estimate her return date. We talk her experiences in AAA, her admiration for Konnan and her future in that company; her feud with Mercedes Martinez in WSU & NCW:FF; facing Saraya Knight and Jazz; taking on Ivelisse in SHINE and ambitions to face Tara some day. We also revisit the comments made by Al Snow following her Gut Check for TNA and her current feelings on the Gut Check Challenge voting, and there’s quite a deep discussion on LuFisto’s ever-changing relationship with the business, what it means to have “succeeded” in wrestling, and bring up the prospect of retirement. SHINE 9 results: Eagles vs Havok steals the show, plus Leva finally commits Kimberly to Arkham Asylum
SHINE Wrestling returns to iPPV this evening with what is without doubt the most stacked card in company history – featuring, as it does, a Steel Cage Match main event to (presumably) cap off the long standing rivalry between Leva Bates & Kimberly, which currently stands at 2-2 after four matches (Bates won at SHINE 3, then after Kimberly turned heel at SHINE 5, she won their rematch at SHINE 6. On SHINE 7, Leva won a Last Woman Standing match, only to see Kimberly win the Fans Bring The Weapons/I Quit match at SHINE 8).
The show also sees the first Qualifying round of the SHINE Title tournament, which takes place at SHINE 11 in July – with eight hopefuls looking to advance to the single elimination tournament. In a first time ever dream match, Madison Eagles takes on Jessicka Havok, while Sweet Saraya Knight battles Su Yung. VALKYRIE stable members Rain & Ivelisse Velez will also see tournament action, against Jazz & Angelina Love respectively. And that’s not even all. SHINE 9 card: “Arkham Asylum” Steel Cage match, plus Qualifiers for first SHINE Title tournament
With SHIMMER weekend done, all roads lead to Ybor City this Friday night for SHINE 9 on iPPV via WWN. Although news of the main event – billed as an “Arkham Asylum” Cage Match between Leva Bates & Kimberly (watch Bates lay down the challenge here) – has been known for a couple of weeks, some of the other marquee matches have now been announced for what is looking like it could be one of SHINE’s biggest shows to date.
With SHINE now on the verge of creating their first champion, the promotion have announced that they have selected 16 competitors, the first eight of which will first battle in four one-on-one Qualifier matches at SHINE 9 this week. Next month at SHINE 10 on May 24th, the next eight challengers will make up a further four Qualifiers. This all leads to SHINE 11 on July 12th, which will see the eight final competitors battle it out to be crowned the first SHINE Champion in a one night single elimination tournament. With the roster for SHINE 9 full to the brim with international competitors coming off SHIMMER last weekend, the talent pool for the Qualifiers so far is deep and rich, and features two former SHIMMER Champions, current champions in WSU & PWWA, a former WWE Women’s Champion and a former TNA Knockouts Champion. DVD Review: ACW Fourth Annual American Joshi Queen of Queens (24 June 2012)
Anarchy Championship Wrestling returns for its fourth American Joshi Queen of Queens tournament with Rachel Summerlyn looking to defend her crown, with Jazz and Jessicka Havok making their ACW debuts. Also on the card, Portia Perez challenges Angel Blue for the American Joshi Championship.

In Video: Fights at Florida Underground Wrestling
The day after SHINE 5 entered the history books back in November, a number of the roster stayed on in Florida to be part of a card for Florida Underground Wrestling as part of a new working relationship between the two promotions. It meant that around half of the card featured women’s matches, headlined with Made In Sin (Allysin Kay and Taylor Made) meeting Rhythm and Bruise (Jazz and Amazing Kong) in tag team action.
On the undercard, Heidi Lovelace faced fellow Ohio Valley Wrestling regular Sojo Bolt (Josette Bynum), Nikki Roxx took on Niya, Santana Garrett wrestled Sassy Stephie, and Marti Belle tangled with Leva Bates. All of the matches are after the jump, so click away and enjoy the five matches in their entirety. It’s a great opportunity to see Made In Sin, as the only chances to see Allysin and Taylor as a team so far have been on SHINE – which you have to pay to see – or at SHIMMER, which have not been released on DVD yet. Ringbelles Retro: Before they were stars
When you’re starting out, you’re working everywhere you can to get experience and build a reputation for yourself. While you may not be so keen on the ethos of the show, if you can square it with yourself, then that’s all that matters.
Women’s Extreme Wrestling may not have the best of reputations – and we’re not keen on the sexual overtones on their shows – but in its defence, it was holding regular all-women’s shows in front of enthusiastic crowds and were shown on pay-per-view and released on video and DVD. As a result, it was a great place for aspiring female grapplers to get some more exposure – the good kind.
The video we have for you as part of today’s Retro is the full WEW Return of the PWO show from May 7, 2005, featuring a number of names who have gone on to bigger and better things. As well as established names like WEW Champion Jazz and Tammy Lynn Sytch, you can see women like Mercedes Martinez, ODB, Lacey, Amber O’Neal, Krissy Vaine and Simply Luscious. In addition, there are a couple who found fortune under different names such as Talia Madison (who is now Velvet Sky) and Cle-Ho-Patra (AKA Shelly Martinez, Ariel or Salinas). As mentioned – you may not agree with the ethos of the promotion, but it gave aspiring wrestlers the chance to do their thing, and for that, it may be worth giving it a chance and watching the video after the jump. Stew and Kong compare how many Royal Rumbles each of them have been in, and we talk about the great personal tragedy in Kong’s life around that time and how various things contributed to her eventual WWE release. We discuss the oft-reported story that Layla was a last minute replacement for Kharma at Extreme Rules 2012 and how aware she was of the growing interest in a match with Beth Phoenix. SHINE 5 results – the return of Amazing Kong (now updated with thoughts)
SHINE Wrestling headlines its SHINE 5 show with the worldwide return of the former Kharma in her first match since January, with Amazing Kong teaming up with Jazz as Rhythm and Bruise to take on the tandem of Rain and Mercedes Martinez.
It’s the main event of a pretty stacked card in Ybor City, FL, with another of the mouth-watering outings being Jessicka Havok facing Nikki Roxx in a rematch of the Women Superstars Uncensored contest which helped to put Havok on the path to the top, while Kimberly looks to end her run of losses by teaming with Leva Bates against Made In Sin – Allysin Kay and Taylor Made – video of which you can see in this month’s SHINE Scouting Report.

SHINE 4 Results – Saraya retains, thanks to Martinez & Rain
It’s time to Shine once again with SHINE 4, live and direct from The Orpheum in Ybor City, FL.
With big sister promotion SHIMMER Women Athletes running next weekend in Berwyn, IL, SHINE 4 kicks off what looks like a busy few weeks for SHIMMER Champion Saraya Knight, who debuts on this show, making her first defence of the SHIMMER Title against former WWE Women’s Champion Jazz. If she gets past Jazz, she will defend against MsChif at next Friday’s AAW show in Berwyn before arriving at SHIMMER next Saturday and Sunday. Saraya can’t afford to look past Jazz, who is headlining her fourth straight SHINE show.
Also on the show, the maniacal Jessicka Havok takes on Leva Bates, Made in Sin reform to take on the debuting team of Davina Rose & Shazza McKenzie, while Reby Sky returns to SHINE to take on the challenge of Australia’s “Rate Tank” Kellie Skater.
In addition, Mercedes Martinez takes on future SHIMMER debutante Santana Garrett, Rain battles Christina Von Eerie, Kimberly *promises* to get her first win over veteran Brandi Wine, and it’s a SHINE debut for “The Fighting Irish” Rhia O’Reilly as she takes on Su Yung.

Ringbelles Roundup (25 September 2012) – Beth Phoenix departure rumours, Ice Ribbon issues & more
Following last night’s Monday Night Raw (which we will get to in a minute, be patient), Beth Phoenix was approached by fans outside the Times Union Center in Albany, NY, asking if the rumours about her planning to leave WWE and retire were true. Lords Of Pain reports that she replied she was neither leaving WWE or retiring in the near future.
To paraphrase Mandy Rice-Davies – a model involved in one of the biggest scandals of in British 1960s politics, the John Profumo/Christine Keeler affair and discredit of the Conservative Government at the time – “well, she would, wouldn’t she?”
Wrestling Inc was the first website to report that Phoenix was intending to leave WWE. It posted a piece last Thursday saying that they had heard from a source that she would be going in October. This was later picked up by other wrestling news sites, and was given extra weight by the Wrestling Observer, which says it has had it confirmed by other sources within the company. However, Phoenix is a professional, and will likely not be addressing the rumours – if she is leaving, she will do so in the right way, quietly slipping into the shadows, likely putting over remaining talent along the way. SHINE Wrestling hits iPPV this evening for its third monthly instalment with nods to the past, present and future.
For the past, the promotion is honouring stars from yesteryear; the present is the card (which we will run down in just a moment); and the future is the announcement on the show which will affect both SHINE and big sister promotion SHIMMER: Women Athletes.
The big matches on the show see Jazz take on Rain, while Jazz’s rival Mercedes Martinez meets Jayme Jameson (plus Jazz and Martinez are banned from interacting), and Jessicka Havok steps into the ring against Mia Yim. Elsewhere, four women make their debuts (get more info on them here), and Made In Sin engage in their first singles matches in the promotion.

Ringbelles Roundup (14 August 2012) – Femmes Fatales, Hiroyo Matsumoto, Maria Kanellis & more
Wrestling promotions spend a long time building up a reputation. Many groups which are starting out at the moment like SHINE and BLOW are looking to get some traction, credibility and a fan base behind them to be mentioned in the same sort of high regard as companies like SHIMMER and Women Superstars Uncensored. Another promotion which has created a great reputation for itself is Montreal, nCw Femmes Fatales, which was worked hard over the last three years to be known as the standard bearer for all-women shows in Canada.
Earlier this year, another promotion looking to start its own women’s show did not do as much research as it probably should have. Insane Championship Wrestling in Scotland called its group Femmes Fatales, but after realising that there was already another Femmes Fatales out there which already had a positive reputation and was working on heritage. After a brief contact from the original, ICW agreed to change the name to Fierce Females, admitting that there would have been some confusion, rebranded itself and looked ahead to promoting its first show, which takes place in Glasgow on September 30 (which Ringbelles will be attending, we may add). It was a considered, reasonable and mature approach exhibited by all which meant that nobody felt aggrieved or hard done by, and would mean that there would be no confusion by fans.

DVD Review: WEW Nude War Games (22 May 2007)
Women’s Extreme Wrestling hosts a five match card at New Alhambra Arena (ECW Arena) in Philadelphia, PA. Two championships are on the line – with one being a guarantee of seeing a title change due to it being vacant – as well as a Blindfold Match and a Hardcore Street Fight.
Results
1. Lucy Furr defeated T.H.A.I. in a Blindfold Match when T.H.A.I. passed out in a “smother”.
2. Jazz made Christie Ricci tap out to an STF.
3. Annie Social & Sumie Sakai beat the Minnesota Home Wrecking Crew (Lacey & Rain) to win the vacant WEW Tag Team Championship. Sakai pinned Lacey with a schoolboy.
4. The Hardcore Street Fight between Amy Lee & Butch went to a no-contest.
5. Talia Madison pinned Angel Orsini with a tornado bulldog headlock to win the WEW Championship.
Highlights
• Lucy Furr (AKA Daffney) cheated in her Blindfold Match to beat T.H.A.I. Lucy took off her blindfold to attack her opponent, and nobody could admonish her as the ref is “blind” and doing a Stevie Wonder send-up. Lucy smothered T.H.A.I. with her bosom until she is unconscious, and even though she’s on her front, the ref counted her down.
• Jazz beat Christi Ricci with an STF, which was apparently the same move she used to win on the previous WEW show.
• Annie Social and Sumie Sakai won the vacant WEW Tag Team Championship by beating the Minnesota Home Wrecking Crew. Sakai and Social are painted as a real odd couple with a real language gap.
• Amy Lee and Butch (who is Canadian Jaime D, AKA Sirelda in TNA) go to a no-contest in their Hardcore Street Fight when the ref is sandwiched between them as they go through a table. Another ref throws the match out.
• Talia Madison (AKA Velvet Sky) won the WEW Championship from Angel Orsini thanks to an assist from her manager Noel Harlow. Jazz then came out to stake her claim to the belt. (more…)
ArenaChicks announces monthly iPPVs starting later this year; Jazz & Reby Sky advance in title tournament
Big news coming out of the ArenaChicks taping at the CWF Mid-Atlantic Sportatorium this past Saturday night with the company announcing a new commissioner, adding two new names to the ‘Final Four’ tournament and announcing the intention to go monthly with iPPVs starting later this year.
The new commissioner of ArenaChicks is none other than former WWE/ECW star Shelly Martinez, who announced that it was her job to take ArenaChicks to the next level, and to move the title tournament along a little quicker. Due to the enforced withdrawal of Sara Del Rey from the tournament, Martinez made the match between Reby Sky and Amber O’Neal for Del Rey’s place in the ‘Final Four’. Sky ended up pinning Amber O’Neal to secure the #2 spot in the tournament following interference by Jazz, who blasted O’Neal with her Jazz Stinger.
Jazz followed up by taking on Impact Wrestling’s Rosita in tournament action, having by all accounts a fantastic match with her, before dumping her with a sit-out slam for the three count. Jazz takes the third spot in the tournament. Already advanced is Angel Orsini. (more…)
Ringbelles Roundup (24 July 2012) – SHINE, PWWA, Raw 1000 & more
There was been a lot of talk about SHINE Wrestling in the lead up to the first Internet PPV on Friday night, and plenty more afterward, with plenty of comments from both people who where there, as well as fans who watched online.
For that reason, we asked Joe Vitale – who was at the Oprheum in Ybor City, FL – what he thought of the show, as he got to experience the atmosphere first hand. Below are some of his reactions:
“I like the setup for the show; it felt like a good introduction to the characters and styles of the workers and it was nice that almost all of the ladies came off like individuals to be interested in rather than “Brunette girl 1″… I really like how well the heels interacted with the crowd, Jayme Jamison and Allyson Kay/Taylor Made made fans out of my non-wrestling friends.”
Overall, one can view the show as being a big success, which built to a tremendous crescendo with Sara Del Rey falling to Jazz in the main event. Nikki Roxx and Rain may only wrestle on a limited basis these days but had a good outing which shows that they have a lot to offer both in in-ring activities but also knowledge that they can impart onto younger talent. Mercedes Martinez and Leva Bates had a tidy outing that set Martinez up for an apparent match against Jazz on SHINE 2 on August 17, and Bates proved that despite wearing a Spider-Man outfit, slinging webs and hanging upside down, there is a wrestler in there who can work, and is ready to get serious. Athena wins ACW American Joshi Queen of Queens
Athena is your new Anarchy Championship Wrestling American Joshi Queen of Queens, winning a tournament in Live Oak, TX which saw new names challenging for the crown, and past participants also vying to make it to the top of the heap.
Daizee Haze took the original tournament in 2009, going through Portia Perez, Jessica James and Sara Del Rey; Perez won in 2010 be beating Haze, MsChif and Lady Poison, regaining the ACW American Joshi Championship in the process, and; 2011′s winner was Rachel Summerlyn, who defeated Christina Von Eerie, Perez and Athena to emerge victorious.
This year Summerlyn, Athena, Lady Poison and Von Eerie returned for the 2012 tournament, and were joined by debutantes Jessicka Havok, Jazz, Veda Scott and Su Yung. A week ago we talked to the lovely Lisa Moretti, aka Ivory – and we left her on the verge of heading off to Los Angeles to attend the LA premiere of GLOW: The Story of the Gorgeous Ladies of Wrestling. A week on, it’s time for another chat to discuss how the premiere went, what she thought of the documentary, and who showed up. From there, it’s time for a headlong dive into the massive second part of Lisa’s wrestling career, as Ivory in WWE. We talk how she got into the promotion, her ho psychology, getting up to speed after so many years away from the business… and just WHAT WAS UP WITH THAT PURPLE SCARF?? We talk working with The Fabulous Moolah & Mae Young, the horrendous Armageddon ’99 Evening Gown Swimming Pool match, Miss Kitty as a locker room poison, the Right to Censor and her program with Chyna, and Steve Austin‘s opinion on their WrestleMania match. Lisa also discusses Stacy Keibler & Torrie Wilson (and deviating from the script), Fit Finlay and the evolution of the Divas division and the end of her road with the company. Femmes Fatales live show thoughts and observations
So, I’ve had nearly 24 hours to digest the events of Femmes Fatales VIII on Saturday night at the Centre St-Barthelemy in Montreal, Quebec (full results here), and to be honest, I’m still struggling on where to begin. I suppose the easiest place is to say that I’ve seen the first six Femmes Fatales shows on DVD, and this was the best one yet, in my view. 
(I’ve picked up the DVD of FF VII, but everybody was in agreement by the end of the night that this was the best show in company history, top to bottom). There wasn’t a bad match on the show, in fact – and when it was *really* good – as it was for Cheerleader Melissa vs Hailey Hatred in particular, it was utterly fantastic. It’s not a newsflash for patrons of this website in particular that both Melissa & Hailey are tremendous pro wrestlers – so the fact that they put on such a great match is hardly unexpected. Hard hitting, technically sound, and nicely paced – the twenty minute time limit flew by way too quickly, ending with Hatred holding out in a Kondo Clutch for what seemed like an age before eating a curb stomp. “Five more minutes”, which were put up on the big screen as a 5:00 countdown clock, gave us more of the same and ended with a raucous final 1:00 where the two simply struck each other into oblivion with back and forth strikes like a marathon runner sprinting the last hundred metres. nCw Femmes Fatales VIII results
All eyes are on Montreal, Quebec, Canada this evening as nCw Femmes Fatales hosts its eighth instalment, and boasts a triple main event. In the main event, defending International Champion Kalamity takes on Mercedes Martinez; elsewhere, Hailey Hatred meets Cheerleader Melissa in a Battle Of The Champions; and former International titleholder LuFisto faces former WWE Women’s Champion Jazz in a First Time Ever Dream Match.
Elsewhere, Jessie McKay and Rhia O’Reilly join Jazz and Hatred in making their debuts, while Portia Perez and Sweet Cherrie look to settle their differences.
