Guest Column: An Alternate Take on WSU’s Mutiny

Havok as WSU ChampEditor’s note: While we don’t usually do this kind of thing, when we received this well written and argued review of this past weekend’s WSU Mutiny show in our inbox from a fan in attendance who said he had trouble using the comment section on our original live coverage, we thought it was worth a column all of its own. Coincidentally, if you’ve got an interest in contributing to the site going forward, we have an idea in mind… keep an eye on the site in the week ahead. Without further ado, our thanks to reader Eric Gall for submitting this alternate take…

I was there live and haven’t seen the show on VOD yet, so here’s my thoughts seeing it live, with a few days to let it sink in…

This was my first weekend of WSU, having gone to Voorhees before, (and before that to Deer Park and Boonton), but I decided to take in Secret Show #3 as well as Mutiny. I thought Friday night’s show was every bit as good as Full Steam Ahead back in October last year. There wasn’t a bad match, and the intimate atmosphere elevated everything.

Something happened between Friday’s show and Saturday, though. While I’m seeing that many people feel that Mutiny was a great show, possibly the best WSU’s put on, I enjoyed this one the least out of any of the new regime’s run of the company, starting in October of ’12. (more…)

WSU Mutiny iPPV – Jessicka Havok vs Alpha Female for the WSU Championship! Last minute changes!

Alpha Female Jessicka Havok WSUAfter last night’s Secret Show #3, where Jessicka Havok successfully retained her WSU World Championship against Shanna, the force of nature known as J-Hav goes one-on-one with the monstrous Alpha Female, who defeated two women in a row last night – and although it was never advertised as such during the build-up to the show, the match has now been confirmed as being for Havok’s WSU World Championship.

Although WSU has already tweeted today that there would be other “changes” to the announced show, we’re hopefully still expecting to see Athena vs LuFisto for the #1 contendership for the WSU Championship, but it seems that injuries to both Veda Scott & Allysin Kay means that their planned matches with Jenny Rose and the Midwest Militia Tag Team Title defence of Allysin Kay & Sassy Stephie against C.U.N.T. (Kimber Lee & Annie Social) respectively appear off the book.

You can still order the live worldwide iPPV via CZWiPPV.com, but otherwise join us after the cut for live results as they come in. (more…)

WSU “Blood and Thunder” iPPV results – Havok defends against Lexxus, Saraya Knight debuts

Saraya chokes MickieIt’s a big day for Women Superstars Uncensored today, as they put on an iPPV from their usual home base of the Flyers Skate Zone in Vorhees, NJ. It’s an important show as not only does it feature a WSU World Title defence over a year in the making, the full WSU debuts of international talents like Nikki Storm and Saraya Knight (the latter of whom takes on Mickie Knuckles in a No Disqualification match), but will also apparently feature an announcement of a new owner taking a stake in WSU – a new owner who will help secure the future of the company and open up more international doors.

In addition, we also have what might well be the sleeper match of the night as Allysin Kay takes on Kimber Lee, and more from the new generation of WSU talent like Santana Garrett, Barbi Hayden, Jewells Malone and more. You can still order the show (which includes 14 days of VOD access) at CZWiPPV.com, or join us after the cut for results as they come in. (more…)

WSU Secret Show #1 – Santana Garrett vs Taeler Hendrix highlights a mixed bag show; Athena’s injury

SantanaOn August 9th, Women Superstars Uncensored debuted a new idea. A “Secret Show” held the night before the Uncensored Rumble iPPV – a show recorded, not for DVD release, but as a bonus (or incentive, if you will) for fans who subscribed to their new StreamWSU service. The show featured most of the women who were due to compete at Uncensored Rumble the next day and were in town already. It’s actually a pretty neat idea – WSU get some extra content for their streaming service without the expense of flying in talent twice over, and it’s a new show for the fans to enjoy. Given its “intimate” nature (very small crowd, very small training centre style building with nothing but bare walls on two sides of the ring), it’s not a show that reeks “quality” to your first time WSU fan – but if you’re already subscribing to StreamWSU, you’re already a pretty committed fan and will appreciate some new content regardless of the look.

However, the show is already infamous as the show which resulted in an injury to Athena in the main event – an injury which took her out of the following night’s WSU World Title match and looks set to keep her out at least until the new year… meaning the show sorta became much more newsworthy than it necessarily should’ve been. With the next Secret Show scheduled for tonight (the night before Blood And Thunder tomorrow), and the recent addition of the first Secret Show to the StreamWSU content list, I figured I’d take a look. WSU Blood And Thunder – what’s whetting our appetite?

WSU Saraya Knight Mickie KnucklesThis Saturday sees a Women Superstars Uncensored Championship match which is a year in the making. Ever since October 13 last year, Lexxus has been claiming that she is the uncrowned champion after losing a 3-way title match at Full Steam Ahead where Jessicka Havok beat she and Alicia, though it was the latter challenger who took the fall. Claiming she was never beaten, she ran her mouth claiming she deserved another crack at the title. In two days at Blood and Thunder in Voorhees, NJ, the former WSU Tag Team Champion gets her opportunity to put up or shut up after beating Nevaeh at August’s Uncensored Rumble VI show to become the top contender.

As for Havok, it’s her first title defence since February’s An Ultraviolent Affair event where she defeated Athena to retain the championship. Since then, she has defeated Sami Callihan (who substituted for an injured LuFisto) at Queen and King of the Ring in May and missed the Uncensored Rumble due to travel issues.

Considering Lexxus’ big talking and the amount of time since Havok’s last defence, we’re expecting the main event to be an entertaining outing, and it’s one of the big matches we’re looking forward to at Blood and Thunder. Let’s take a look at the others… (more…)

Athena injured at Secret Show; off today’s iPPV – UPDATE: Havok also off show, citing travel issues

Athena by GildaIn a terrible case of sod’s law, ‘The Wrestling Goddess’ Athena suffered an injury at last night’s WSU Secret Show. Reports have Athena taking a bad landing on a German Suplex which resulted in her throwing up post show and going to the hospital for X-Rays. All we’ve had confirmed by WSU (on twitter) is that “Nothing is broken, but she’s hurt. Needless to say, Athena will not be wrestling Jessicka Havok or participating in the Uncensored Rumble” and that “She is experiencing numbness in her left arm after landing on her left shoulder/collarbone”. The Secret Show (which turned out to be at the CZW training school) had already been missing Shanna, who had picked up an injury earlier in the day doing customs – but we’ve had confirmation that she’s going to be good to go both in today’s Uncensored Rumble and at CZW’s show thereafter.

This, naturally, puts WSU in a pickle ahead of this afternoon’s iPPV. Their main event is toast, and Jessicka Havok is without an opponent. The reason I called the Athena injury “sod’s law” earlier (i.e. ‘Whatever can go wrong, *will* go wrong’) is because this is the second WSU show in a row where the challenger for Jessicka Havok‘s WSU World Title has had to pull out due to injury – last time it was LuFisto. In fact, she’s not announced for the show, but how perfect would it be if LuFisto was able to fill that spot at the top of the card today? So, unless LuFisto was planned as an unannounced surprise Rumble entrant, I think logic dictates the more likely outcome is to either move one of Lexxus or Nevaeh into the main event to challenge Havok (both have legitimate claims for a shot), or parachute Havok into the existing match and make it a Havok/Lexxus/Nevaeh three way for the title. Either way, these are the questions that Drew Cordeiro will currently be grappling with, so we wish him all the best getting the card straightened out before bell time today.

UPDATE: WSU has just updated on twitter that Jessicka Havok will NOT be at the show today either, citing travel issues. Replying to us, WSU put a positive spin on the news, claiming that it gives a “Huge opportunity for the debuting wrestlers to step up”. Fingers crossed for them.

After the cut you’ll find results of the WSU Secret Show – an event which will be released exclusively on StreamWSU.com in the near future. If you’d prefer to avoid results for that, don’t click through. (more…)

WSU iPPV results – Athena & AR Fox crowned Queen & King of the Ring; Havok/Callihan have wild brawl

18 Athena WSUIt’s an intergender kind of day at Women Superstars Uncensored today, who run their annual intergender tag team tournament (renamed this year to Queen and King of the Ring rather than the other way around) alongside Combat Zone Wrestling as part of a double header – and after eschewing iPPV for the first couple of shows under the new management, this is the first new era WSU show available live worldwide, through RFVideo.

On top of the eight team tournament, we have non tourney action featuring members of the Midwest Militia – both in non-title action – with Tag Champs Allysin Kay & Sassy Stephie facing Spirit Champion Marti Belle and Lexxus, and reigning WSU World Champion Jessicka Havok taking on “The Callihan Death Machine” Sami Callihan. Havok was apparently given carte blanche to pick her opponent for the match, following the withdrawal of LuFisto – who is currently out with injury. If you haven’t had a chance to listen, LuFisto addresses her current situation exclusively with us on the Women of Wrestling Podcast, and issued a promo directed at Jessicka Havok this week, which you can view on YouTube. You can still order the show at CZWIPPV.com, but we’ll have live results after the cut. (more…)

Jessicka Havok booked in intergender match at WSU Queen & King of the Ring iPPV

Jessicka Havok Sami CallihanWomen Superstars Uncensored was presented with a problem in its preparation for May 11′s Queen and King of the Ring iPPV. Its title match between WSU Champion Jessicka Havok and LuFisto – which came about after Havok defeated Athena and LuFisto beat Mercedes Martinez at An Ultraviolent Affair on February 9 – had to be scrapped due to the Super Hardcore Anime requiring surgery for a fractured kneecap, suffered during the SHIMMER Volume 53 iPPV on April 6.

With most of the roster tied up in the mixed tag team tournament, the promotion decided to get creative with an opponent for Havok, so WSU released a video with the titleholder throwing down a challenge based on what happened at the Combat Zone Wrestling show on the evening following An Ultraviolent Affair, and she wanted to take on LuFisto’s opponent in the mixed tag team match which took place.

Havok and Sami Callihan had an exchange or two in the match, and that wasn’t forgotten by the WSU Champion. In the video released last week, Havok lamented WSU for not finding her a challenger, then got proactive by calling out CZW’s Best of the Best XI tournament winner, though it would be six days of tentative waiting before the challenge was accepted, meaning that next Saturday in Voorhees, NJ, Jessicka Havok will take on Sami Callihan in a non-title, interpromotional, intergender affair. WSU Uncensored Rumble V results – now updated with thoughts

As we discussed in this week’s Roundup, it’s the end of an era for Women Superstars Uncensored, as the ownership changes hands tonight, with the new owners being announced during the iPPV being shown on Go Fight Live. The main event match pits WSU Champion Jessicka Havok defending the title against Mercedes Martinez in a Casket Match (an image of which you can see to your left), with other matches at the top of the card being Sassy Stephie v Brittney Savage in an Uncensored Rules match, Lexxus taking on Alicia, and Allysin Kay meeting newcomer Terra Calaway.

Elsewhere, the WSU and nCw: Femmes Fatales relationship kicks off with Kalamity defending the International Championship against Sweet Cherrie, and LuFisto wrestling Leva Bates. At the start of next month, the roles are reversed, as the Midwest Militia of Havok, Kay and Stephie travel to Montreal to face Courtney Rush and two undetermined partners.

The other big encounter tonight is the Uncensored Rumble itself, with the winner becoming the number one contender to the WSU title. Lee’s pick to win was Rain, but she has had to miss show due to illness, so with that prediction out of the window, we will be watching like everyone else to see who emerges as the victor.

We will be adding results as they happen here on the site, so click after the jump and keep refreshing to keep up with all the goings on.

WSU J-Cup DVD taping results

Women Superstars Uncensored return for their second shows of the month with the double DVD taping, taking in the annual J-Cup tournament. Tina San Antonio takes on former partner Marti Belle in an Uncensored Rules match, Jana pulling double duty by taking on WSU Queen of the Ring Jennifer Cruz, as well as teaming with Luscious Latasha to challenge Allysin Kay and Sassy Stephie for the Tag Team Championship, while fellow Midwest Militia member Jessicka Havok makes her first defence of the WSU Championship against former titleholder Mercedes Martinez.

Unfortunately, the show has been hit with a snag, as J-Cup participant Christina Von Eerie had flight issues, so she is out, and has been replaced by promising rookie Kimber Lee. The other participants are Alicia, Brittney Savage, Annie Social, Athena, Lexxus, Ezavel Suena & Nikki Syxx.
