SHINE 17 live results: Tag Team Title tournament; Ivelisse Velez defends SHINE Title against Mercedes Martinez

SHINE 17 posterAfter crowning a singles champion at SHINE 11 last June, SHINE adds another title to the promotion by establishing Tag Team Champions. Eight teams are vying for the gold – some established, some new, some who are relatively fresh-faced and some who have years of ring time. We have taken a look at the more viable contenders, though it is really anybody’s guess as to who will walk out of SHINE 17 with the championship.

Elsewhere, new SHINE Champion Ivelisse Velez puts her belt on the line against Mercedes Martinez, though the titleholder is likely to have an eye on the other non-tournament match on the card where the woman who replaced her in ValkyrieSerena Deeb – takes on Angelina Love.

Bunch of Fives – 1st SHINE Tag Team Champions?

SHINE 17

We now have the eight teams announced for the tournament at SHINE 17 on February 28 to crown the first SHINE Tag Team Champions. They are Made In Sin (Allysin Kay & Taylor Made), the SNS Express (Sassy Stephie & Jessie Belle Smothers), the West Coast Connection (Su Yung & Tracy Taylor), Leva Bates & Mia Yim, Brandi Wine & Malia Hosaka, The Buddy System (Solo Darling & Heidi Lovelace), the Kimber Bombs (Kimber Lee & Cherry Bomb) and MsEerie (Christina Von Eerie & MsChif). Most of the tandems certainly have viable chances of winning, but I reckon that there are five that have a greater chance of prevailing… (more…)

SHINE 12 Live Results: Rain defends her title against winner of Three Way (Updated with thoughts & pictures)

shine12_08232013_ippvTonight, one month removed from their first anniversary show (and the crowning of the first SHINE Champion in the shape of Rain), SHINE Wrestling returns to its home base at The Orpheum in Ybor City, FL for SHINE 12. A bit of a curious card this, as other than the situation surrounding the title – where Jessicka Havok, Mia Yim and Ivelisse Velez will battle in a three way match for a shot at Rain’s title on the same night – much of the rest of the show seems to have hit a reset button, with no real issues to be settled on the rest of the show. However, with a highly rated debutante in the shape of Portugal’s Perfect Athlete Shanna and the return of the always show-stealing Kimber Lee (along with the first showing of Daffney‘s A.S.S. as a unit), there’s plenty of potential for a good show. Oh yeah, and two of independent wrestling’s biggest and most talented names get it on as Mercedes Martinez renews her old rivalry with Amazing Kong.

Has that whetted your appettite? You can order the show either live, on demand, or even with an accompanying DVD of the event from WWNLive.com, but otherwise, click through past the cut and follow along with our live results. (more…)

New SHINE Championship contender to be set at SHINE 12; will challenge Rain on the same night

SHINE 12 posterThat’s better. I was a little concerned that the undercard of SHINE 12 was a bit weak and haphazard when I was writing it up yesterday. There are still questions about some of the matches like why Kimber Lee and Kimberly are wrestling beyond the gag with their similar names, and what injustice the West Coast Connection has that Daffney’s All Star Squad needs to right, but the big money matches have been revealed following a pair of promos by SHINE’s Champion and its VP of Talent Relations.

The first video came from Rain, who said that because there was no clear number one contender she was not going to be defending her belt at the August 23 show in Ybor City, FL. This didn’t sit well with Lexie Fyfe, who announced that a new challenger would be determined during the broadcast.

Mia Yim, Ivelisse Velez and Jessicka Havok are the three women involved as they were deemed to have made the most progress in the SHINE 11 title tournament. Yim was the defeated finalist, while Ivelisse could have made the finals had she not been the victim of an errant shot by her Valkyrie cohort Rain – and she also wrestled three matches in quick succession due to the layout of the show. Havok did not get a fair crack at Rain in the semi-finals due to being attacked during her entrance by Saraya Knight, so we’ll never know how she would have fared against the eventual champion.

The winner will face Rain for the title in the main event – which means the challenger will be battle-worn while the champion will go into the contest completely fresh. (more…)

SHINE 12 card finally announced

SHINE 12 posterWe say “finally announced” as SHINE Wrestling tends to be well on the ball with this sort of thing. With just nine days to go until the SHINE 12 iPPV, we now know most of the matches for the show on August 23 in Ybor City, FL.

Arguably the highest profile match sees former TNA Knockouts Champion Angelina Love taking on “Portugal’s Perfect Athlete” Shanna, who impressed a lot of people at Women Superstars Uncensored‘s Uncensored Rumble iPPV where she teamed with Chris Dickinson to fall to Addy Starr and Matt Tremont in mixed tag action and then went 30 minutes in the Rumble match itself, before coming back for the Combat Zone Wrestling iPPV in the evening in a losing effort to Nevaeh. Despite the defeats, she picked up a lot of new fans and should create a good deal of anticipation to see how she does against Love.

Elsewhere, Daffney‘s All Star Squad gets its first roll-out as Nikki Roxx and Solo Darling face the West Coast Connection of Su Yung and Tracy Taylor; Leva Bates steps into the ring against Christina Von Eerie, and Santana Garrett takes on the returning Brandi Wine, who last appeared at SHINE 8. Rounding off the announced matches is one which commentator Lenny Leonard is possibly going to struggle with – it’s SHINE’s resident loose screw Kimberly going up against the always-impressive Kimber Lee. Good luck with that, Lenny… (more…)

SHINE 8 results: Valkyrie remain unbeaten, Havok forced to respect Sky, Bates/Kimberly in insane brawl

Shine8posterSince the formation of Rain‘s Valkyrie stable at SHINE 6, the group has been on a tear – going 3-0 against SHINE talent at SHINE 7 – but with the roster banding together against the renegades at the conclusion of the last show, and the addition of the debuting Angelina Love – it just might be the start of the turning of the tide – with the team of Angelina Love, Amazing Kong, Mia Yim & Christina Von Eerie combining to take on Rain (making her return from injury), Ivelisse and Made In Sin in the main event.

Also on the show, Kimberly and Leva Bates have each picked a “poison” for the other in their potentially feud-ending double stipulation match. Leva chose “Fans bring the weapons”, and Kimberly selected “I Quit”. High stakes also in the match between Reby Sky and Jessicka Havok, which is being billed as a “Career vs Respect” match. Simply put, if Havok beats Sky, Sky’s time in SHINE is over, but if Sky can overcome the larger, stronger and more vicious Havok, Havok will have to stand in the middle of the ring and admit on the mic that she respects Sky.

Follow results as they come in with us after the jump. (more…)

SHINE 8 card: Eight Woman Warfare, Leva & Kimberly pick some poison and a career is on the line

Shine8posterOn the heels of a well received SHINE 7 iPPV which saw the newly formed VALKYRIE stable complete a clean sweep of victories, going 3-0 across the board, the newly released SHINE 8 card offers the Home Team a chance to gain a measure of revenge in the form of an eight-woman tag team main event. Rain will lead VALKYRIE, consisting of Made In Sin (Allysin Kay & Taylor Made) and this week’s TNA Gut Check contestant Ivelisse Velez, against a team consisting of Amazing Kong, Mia Yim, the returning Christina Von Eerie and the debuting Angelina Love. The heel team picks itself, naturally, but it’s an interesting choice on the Kong side, as it seems that the people who ran in to help at the end of SHINE 7 (Nikki Roxx, Santana Garrett, Tracy Taylor & Su Yung) have all been passed over in deference to Von Eerie & Love. We have no great issues with the choice, as the match looks tasty in any event, but it seems a shame that someone like Santana, who has been quietly improving show by show and looked to potentially have a chance to move up the card, remains anchored to the midcard. SHINE 4 Results – Saraya retains, thanks to Martinez & Rain

It’s time to Shine once again with SHINE 4, live and direct from The Orpheum in Ybor City, FL.

With big sister promotion SHIMMER Women Athletes running next weekend in Berwyn, IL, SHINE 4 kicks off what looks like a busy few weeks for SHIMMER Champion Saraya Knight, who debuts on this show, making her first defence of the SHIMMER Title against former WWE Women’s Champion Jazz. If she gets past Jazz, she will defend against MsChif at next Friday’s AAW show in Berwyn before arriving at SHIMMER next Saturday and Sunday. Saraya can’t afford to look past Jazz, who is headlining her fourth straight SHINE show.

Also on the show, the maniacal Jessicka Havok takes on Leva Bates, Made in Sin reform to take on the debuting team of Davina Rose & Shazza McKenzie, while Reby Sky returns to SHINE to take on the challenge of Australia’s “Rate Tank” Kellie Skater.

In addition, Mercedes Martinez takes on future SHIMMER debutante Santana Garrett, Rain battles Christina Von Eerie, Kimberly *promises* to get her first win over veteran Brandi Wine, and it’s a SHINE debut for “The Fighting Irish” Rhia O’Reilly as she takes on Su Yung.

Click through to after the cut for ongoing results as they come in, and later, opinions and pictures. (more…)

Shine Wrestling 4: Scouting Report

If you skipped Shine 3 last month on the belief that it was likely to be a bit of a placeholder show, shame on you, because it turned out to be a heckuva worthwhile show, with Jazz & Rain delivering in the main event and Jessicka Havok vs Mia Yim winning a lot of match of the night plaudits. But chances are you’re back for Shine 4 anyway, with the influx of SHIMMER related talent, and a SHIMMER Title defence in the main event, as Saraya Knight brings her distinctive brand of belligerence to Ybor City in a battle with former WWE Women’s Champion Jazz… so let’s take a look at Shine’s newbies.

Saraya Knight – SHIMMER Champion
