Ringbelles Retro: A look back at Women’s Extreme Wrestling

WEW posterAfter six years away, Women’s Extreme Wrestling is reportedly planning a return to TV, according to PWInsider. A poster has been released for a PPV called Booty Whipping, though it seems that it could be a compilation of previous events.

We have reviewed a WEW – former known as Women’s Erotic Wrestling – DVD in the past, and while it had its moments, we weren’t very impressed with Nude War Games. However, considering it ran for six years, it did fine for itself as a company and it gave women wrestlers another forum to hone their craft. That’s why we’ve posted a video from WEW’s YouTube channel.

For example, Nude Takedown from May 20, 2007 features the likes of Velvet Sky, April Hunter, Annie Social, Sumie Sakai, Amy Lee, Daffney, Nikki Roxx, Simply Luscious, Christie Ricci, ODB, Amber O’Neal, Francine and Mercedes Martinez. You can watch the video after the jump, but be ready for some pretty sexist commentary and suggestive content. (more…)

PWS Bombshells to crown Majestic Champion; Missy Sampson granted final shot at Bombshells Title

PWS BombshellsLast October, Pro Wrestling Syndicate launched an all-women offshoot to its promotion with a controversial name. Called Bombshell Ladies Of Wrestling, its acronym of BLOW ruffled some feathers – though as Annie Social argued at the time, it’s no more offensive than a promotion where the letters are shortened to TNA.

The first show saw the start of the quest to crown a Bombshells Champion, though the road to the title wasn’t a smooth one, as wrestlers either didn’t make the first show or had to bow out due to other issues. In fact, it meant the title decider at the third event was a 3-way which turned into a 4-way when injured Sienna DuVall re-inserted herself into the tournament. Missy Sampson won the championship, though the controversies continued and saw her drop the belt to La Rosa Negra at Bombshells 4 when the referee stopped the match, deeming that Sampson was unable to continue in a ruling which was pretty unique to wrestling and didn’t go down too well.

What followed was heel commissioner Vinny Finucci against everywoman babyface Sampson, who he deemed to be not pretty enough to be the focal point of the promotion. Sampson earned a return match at the title at Bombshells 6, but lost due to another screwy decision. However, by way of winning another tag match at the most recent event in September, she has been granted a final shot at La Rosa Negra in a 2 out of 3 falls match at Bombshells 8 on December 14 in Avenel, NJ. Bombshell Ladies Of Wrestling #4 results – La Rosa Negra wins BLOW Title, Serena Deeb is awesome

BLOW posterBombshell Ladies Of Wrestling are back for another iPPV as part of a weekend of action presented by parent company Pro Wrestling Syndicate. Headlining the show is Missy Sampson defending the BLOW Championship which she won at February’s show, though it’s not against originally announced opponent Alexa Thatcher, who was due to make her return at the event after a prolonged absence.

PWS revealed that she had pulled out of the card a couple of weeks ago, and was replaced with Mickie Knuckles, who lost in the first round of Women Superstars Uncensored‘s Queen and King of the Ring earlier today.

Also take place on the card, Amy Lee and Amazing Kong face off again – this time in a First Blood Match – as well as Serena Deeb taking on Shelly Martinez, and Santana Garrett against La Rosa Negra.

You can order the event from highspots.tv – which is $10, or free if you have a subscription to the service – so there’s still time to throw down some money and watch. Alternatively, we’re updating you with results as they happen, so click after the jump and keep hitting refresh… (more…)

Bellatrix 5 results – Saraya Knight retains the SHIMMER Title; Liberty wins the RQW European belt

Saraya Knight Bellatrix 5It’s been building up to this day for months, and coupled with a heavy bout of promotion both locally and online, Bellatrix Female Warriors launches its first show since officially changing the name from the World Association of Women’s Wrestling at the start of the year. Bellatrix 5 is also the promotion’s first iPPV (which you can order by clicking here), headlined by the first SHIMMER Title match on British soil.

Saraya Knight defends the championship against Queen of the Ring Destiny, while the undercard was given an extra sweetener in recent days with the announcement that Liberty‘s match against Queen Maya will now be for Maya’s RQW European Women’s Championship.

Elsewhere on the card, Bacardi and Rebecca Mason make their debuts, while Amy Lee and Phobia make their returns. Ringbelles is on hand at the Epic Studios in Norwich, England to bring you results. Click after the jump to check them out, and keep hitting refresh for the updates. (more…)

In Video: Build up to Bellatrix 5

Liberty Queen Maya Bellatrix

Yesterday, six matches were announced for March 24th’s Bellatrix 5 show in Norwich, England – the first show since the name changeover from the World Association of Women’s Wrestling to Bellatrix, something which was explained by Destiny in our interview with her at the end of last year.

The biggest match announced so far is a return contest from last November’s Bellatrix 4 with RQW European Women’s Champion Queen Maya taking on Liberty in an encounter that was cut short because of a broken arm suffered by the tall Italian. This contest is billed as non-title, but a victory by Liberty could propel her to a title shot in the future.

However, the revelations continue – as well as the aforementioned rematch, Bellatrix 5 features debuts and returns – such as Amy Lee making her first appearance in a Bellatrix event since the original one last March where she face Miss Mina, who is now fully recovered from the ankle injury she suffered last November. Speaking of returns, the creepy Phobia – who hasn’t been about since Bellatrix 2 – will be seen again on March 24, standing across the ring from rookie Chanel, who is going in the right direction in terms of progression.

So that’s the returns taken care of – how about the debuts? (more…)

Bombshell Ladies Of Wrestling #3 live results – now updated with thoughts

blow 3 posterBombshell Ladies Of Wrestling crowns its first champion today, culminating a tournament which started back in October. There have also been some unexpected twists and turns, with pullouts and substitutions along the way.

The most recent change is in the title match, which is now a triple threat after Sienna DuVall had to pull out due to injury. As a result, the planned semi-finals and finals have been scrapped, with the three remaining contenders – Missy Sampson, Sumie Sakai and Katarina Leigh – all meeting in a 3-way to determine the first champion. Elsewhere, the other marquee match is between Amy Lee and Amazing Kong, in what will likely be a hard-hitting affair.

You can watch the show unfold for yourself on iPPV from Highspots, though we will also be updating results after the jump, so keep hitting refresh to keep up with all the latest developments. (more…)

Ringbelles Retro: Before they were stars

Talia Madison with a sleeper on Mercedes Martinez. Photo: WEWWhen you’re starting out, you’re working everywhere you can to get experience and build a reputation for yourself. While you may not be so keen on the ethos of the show, if you can square it with yourself, then that’s all that matters.

Women’s Extreme Wrestling may not have the best of reputations – and we’re not keen on the sexual overtones on their shows – but in its defence, it was holding regular all-women’s shows in front of enthusiastic crowds and were shown on pay-per-view and released on video and DVD. As a result, it was a great place for aspiring female grapplers to get some more exposure – the good kind.

The video we have for you as part of today’s Retro is the full WEW Return of the PWO show from May 7, 2005, featuring a number of names who have gone on to bigger and better things. As well as established names like WEW Champion Jazz and Tammy Lynn Sytch, you can see women like Mercedes Martinez, ODB, Lacey, Amber O’Neal, Krissy Vaine and Simply Luscious. In addition, there are a couple who found fortune under different names such as Talia Madison (who is now Velvet Sky) and Cle-Ho-Patra (AKA Shelly Martinez, Ariel or Salinas). As mentioned – you may not agree with the ethos of the promotion, but it gave aspiring wrestlers the chance to do their thing, and for that, it may be worth giving it a chance and watching the video after the jump. DVD Review: WEW Nude War Games (22 May 2007)

Women’s Extreme Wrestling hosts a five match card at New Alhambra Arena (ECW Arena) in Philadelphia, PA. Two championships are on the line – with one being a guarantee of seeing a title change due to it being vacant – as well as a Blindfold Match and a Hardcore Street Fight.

Results
1. Lucy Furr defeated T.H.A.I. in a Blindfold Match when T.H.A.I. passed out in a “smother”.
2. Jazz made Christie Ricci tap out to an STF.
3. Annie Social & Sumie Sakai beat the Minnesota Home Wrecking Crew (Lacey & Rain) to win the vacant WEW Tag Team Championship. Sakai pinned Lacey with a schoolboy.
4. The Hardcore Street Fight between Amy Lee & Butch went to a no-contest.
5. Talia Madison pinned Angel Orsini with a tornado bulldog headlock to win the WEW Championship.

Highlights
Lucy Furr (AKA Daffney) cheated in her Blindfold Match to beat T.H.A.I. Lucy took off her blindfold to attack her opponent, and nobody could admonish her as the ref is “blind” and doing a Stevie Wonder send-up. Lucy smothered T.H.A.I. with her bosom until she is unconscious, and even though she’s on her front, the ref counted her down.
Jazz beat Christi Ricci with an STF, which was apparently the same move she used to win on the previous WEW show.
Annie Social and Sumie Sakai won the vacant WEW Tag Team Championship by beating the Minnesota Home Wrecking Crew. Sakai and Social are painted as a real odd couple with a real language gap.
Amy Lee and Butch (who is Canadian Jaime D, AKA Sirelda in TNA) go to a no-contest in their Hardcore Street Fight when the ref is sandwiched between them as they go through a table. Another ref throws the match out.
Talia Madison (AKA Velvet Sky) won the WEW Championship from Angel Orsini thanks to an assist from her manager Noel Harlow. Jazz then came out to stake her claim to the belt. (more…)

Ringbelles Retro: Social and Rogers… unplugged

There have been a lot of promotions that have rocked through south Philadelphia’s diminutive mecca of pro wrestling on West Ritner Street. Viking Hall, ECW Arena, XPW Arena, Alhambra Arena, Asylum Arena… it has had many names, and has played host to promotions like Extreme Championship Wrestling, CHIKARA, Combat Zone Wrestling, Women’s Extreme Wrestling, Pro Pain Pro Wrestling, Dragon Gate USA and New Japan Pro Wrestling.

Another one which is overlooked is Pro Wrestling Unplugged, a promotion that launched in 2004 and ran regular cards at the old bingo hall and featured women’s wrestling matches which were not designed to be a bathroom break, but as competitive contests with storylines, featuring names like Sumie Sakai, Mercedes Martinez and Alere Little Feather.

Today’s Retro features a match from PWU’s We Won’t Die show from December 15, 2007 featuring Women’s Champion Annie Social defending against recent retiree Cindy Rogers with the added fly in the ointment being that Amy Lee is the special referee, and she was the woman that Social defeated for the title. Based on the edginess of the production, you can see why all three ended up becoming part of the roster of Women Superstars Uncensored(more…)

WSU: Breaking Barriers 2 review

Twenty four hours removed from Women Superstars Uncensored‘s iPPV Breaking Barriers II and this writer is still at a loss for words. The show had it’s ups and downs as any show will, but when the ending of the War Games main event went down, it had me in shock and disbelief. The ending completely overshadowed the War Games match itself as well as the rest of the show. I’m going to attempt to write up a coherent report and put my thoughts and opinions into some sort of structure.

The first match was the Boston Shore (Amber and Lexxus) defending the WSU Tag Team Championships against the reunited International Home Wrecking Crew of Rain and Jetta. Back at WSU’s last DVD tapings in August, it was originally announced that Serena Deeb would be Rain’s partner since both women had had problems with the Shore. However, Serena pulled out of the match (which led to her being announced as Melina‘s opponent for Breaking Barriers II), leaving Rain without a partner. Not for long though – in a surprise twist, Rain brought Jetta out of retirement to take on the Shore. (more…)

Ringbelles Roundup (9 August 2011)

Most of you reading this will already know the main details about Gail Kim and Melina’s departures from WWE – Melina was released on Thursday after a number of controversial incidents, while Kim “quit” on last Monday after eliminating herself from Raw’s battle royal. The situation since then is that both are still somewhat tied to the company, be it by choice or circumstance.

Despite walking out of WWE last week, Gail Kim is still yet to have been officially released. Instead, she’s breaching her contract – which may have as little as a month or two left on it – in the hope that the deal will be terminated and she will be free to do whatever she wants with her life. The two most obvious possibilities to this strategy were that either Kim would get what she wanted – which was unlikely, as why would they roll over for someone who has behaved unprofessionally in just walking out of the door – or that WWE would sue her for breaching her contract. However, they decided to choose option three – keep her on the payroll. (more…)

WSU DVD taping results: 73 minute match, new faction & War Games match signed

Unlike its last few big-time offerings, which have been shown on iPPV before being released on DVD, this weekend’s Women Superstars Uncensored shows are going straight to the WSU shop. The promotion have two shows in Union City, NJ tonight, with the main matches being Mercedes Martinez defending the WSU World Title against Lexxus, and the increasingly-impressive Jessicka Havok taking on “The WSU Icon” Alicia in a No Holds Barred match.

After the jump, you’ll find all the results. Enjoy. (more…)

WSU Uncensored Rumble IV: Lexxus earns title shot

For the past three years, WSU has held an Uncensored Rumble to crown a number one contender. Going into it this year, Jessicka Havok was the strongest contender to win it all, though she would have to go through Alicia in an Uncensored Rules match first. Also on the card, among other matches, was Sassy Stephanie’s first title defense against the veteran Rain, new tag team champions Boston Shore defending against the Belle Saints, Marti Belle and Tina San Antonio, and Mercedes Martinez defending her WSU Championship against Britney Savage. Would the show live up to the hype? Let’s find out…

The iPPV was 20 minutes late starting, but wrestling fans are somewhat used to this. The stream flickered on to show Amy Lee in the ring, cutting a promo on fans in the crowd. The less said about this, the better.

The show kicked off with Sassy Stephie defending her WSU Spirit title against the Radiant Rain (who arrived in a new outfit, and to Jetta’s music “Something Kinda Oooh” – nice nod to her former tag team partner). What we saw was a strong, solid opening contest between a veteran and a woman who has only been wrestling since 2007. But despite Rain’s experience, Stephie fought back and delivered a Kiss My Sass to retain the Spirit title. Both women looked excellent, and it was a great match to start the iPPV off with. (more…)

Ringbelles Report: WSU Four Year Anniversary iPPV

Women Superstars Uncensored had promised much ahead of its Four Year Anniversary show. Jessicka Havok had promised to go through Rain’s Army to reach and defeat the leader herself; Sassy Stephie had made her intentions clear that she wanted the Spirit Championship and would do whatever it took to get it; Serena Deeb vowed to end the 2 year WSU World Title reign of Mercedes Martinez; and Alicia assured us she would cash in her title shot contract during the show and become a champion again. So who would succeed in their goals, and who (if anyone) would fall short? Let’s find out… (more…)
