Rematches ahoy at SHINE 6

SHINE 6 posterAfter a month off, SHINE Wrestling returns on January 11 with SHINE 6, and a number of long-standing feuds may be settled, or more fuel may be thrown onto these fires…

For starters, Jessicka Havok and Reby Sky will collide once again after Havok won their match at SHINE 2 and then went after her opponent after the bell. The pair also had a face-off at SHINE 4 when Sky prevented her rival from delivering further punishment to Leva Bates after their contest.

The main event was meant to be a rematch between Jazz and Mercedes Martinez after their match at SHINE 2 was thrown out before it even started and after facing each other in tag team action at SHINE 5 in November. However, Jazz has had to remove herself from the card – marking the first show she will have missed – and Martinez will now face Jazz’s partner on SHINE 5 - Amazing Kong, which is more than a suitable replacement… (more…)

And the Breakout Star of the Year is…

It’s time for the second of our three honours which comprise the Ringbelles 2012 Year End Awards, and that brings us to the Breakout Star of the Year. While we define the Discovery category as someone who caught our attention and made us believe that great things are in that wrestler’s future, the Breakout Star award is for those wrestlers who have gone from being another name in another match to someone who has become a genuine player, breaking through that proverbial glass ceiling to being a must-have selection for promoters, and someone who fans are now going out of their way to see, learn more about and follow.

As was mentioned in yesterday’s Roundup, the Breakout Star category saw the biggest field of potential winners, with fifteen women in contention for the award. Names on the list included Hiroyo Matsumoto, who challenged for numerous championships in Japan and earned another crack at the SHIMMER title on volume 51; Courtney Rush, who was part of the brilliant Queens Of Winning storyline and has been part of higher profile matches in 2012, showing how well regarded she is and how you can rely on her to put on an entertaining contest; Athena, who won the Anarchy Championship Wrestling American Joshi Queen of Queens and had big outings against the likes of Ray, Mercedes Martinez and Ayako Hamada, as well as challenging for both the SHIMMER and nCw Femmes Fatales International championships; Evie, who in the space of seven days in August won two of the most high-profile titles in Australasia and fought some staggeringly hard-hitting matches along the way; and Nikki Storm, who blossomed over the year from an entertaining prospect for the future into a consistently entertaining performer and the Pro Wrestling: EVE Champion – albeit for only a matter of minutes.

Three of the aforementioned names came within a gnat’s whisker of winning this award. However, we elected to give it to a woman whose rise over 2012 came to be because of an errant kick which caused her nose to explode… (more…)

SHINE 5 results – the return of Amazing Kong (now updated with thoughts)

SHINE Wrestling headlines its SHINE 5 show with the worldwide return of the former Kharma in her first match since January, with Amazing Kong teaming up with Jazz as Rhythm and Bruise to take on the tandem of Rain and Mercedes Martinez.

It’s the main event of a pretty stacked card in Ybor City, FL, with another of the mouth-watering outings being Jessicka Havok facing Nikki Roxx in a rematch of the Women Superstars Uncensored contest which helped to put Havok on the path to the top, while Kimberly looks to end her run of losses by teaming with Leva Bates against Made In SinAllysin Kay and Taylor Made – video of which you can see in this month’s SHINE Scouting Report.

We’ll be bringing you results as they happen, but why not buy the show for yourself, watch live and leave a comment with what you think about the show…? (more…)

Ringbelles Roundup (6 November 2012) – experiencing live wrestling, Femmes Fatales and more

Allysin Kay, Santana Garrett, Ryo Mizunami, Heidi Lovelace, Thunderkitty, Su Yung, Shazza McKenzie, Angelus Layne, Sweet Cherrie, Mary Lee Rose, Deziree, Missy, Medianne, Xandra Bale, Leah Von Dutch, Jewells Malone, Serphentina, Angie Skye & Pink Flash Kira all share a common thread with me in relation to all the wrestling I’ve seen in the last few weeks – seven shows since October 26, and two more to come this weekend, where I can add Kaori Yoneyama and Angelina Love to that list. They are all wrestlers who I have seen live for the first time, and I think that’s a massively important thing to be excited about.

While at SHIMMER, the discussion took place about Lexie Fyfe’s announcement as part of the heel team for the elimination match which headlined volume 50, with the assertion that if you merely read the results, or even saw it on DVD, it would not generate the same reaction or experience as watching it live. At the Berwyn Eagles Club, RPM by Sugar Ray hit and there was a wave of excitement as the recognition sunk into fans’ heads, realising that Fyfe would be wrestling her first SHIMMER match since May 3, 2009, where she and Malia Hosaka fell to Ariel and Nikki Roxx. It was a nice throwback to a previous generation, and provided a lovely nostalgic feeling. Had you just seen the result on paper, or knowing that it was going to happen, it may not have garnered the same buzz. (more…)

SHIMMER Volumes 51 & 52 DVD taping results (updated with thoughts on both Vols and photo gallery)

After a bumper day 1 yesterday which saw a number of storyline developments in both title pictures and one of the best matches in the promotion’s history, SHIMMER: Women Athletes returns for the second day of its weekend of DVD tapings.

Yesterday, Ayako Hamada and Kana competed in an epic encounter which saw the veteran gain the victory, though both women came out looking stronger than ever. In the 5-on-5 main event of volume 50, ReGeneration X and the Tag Team Champions Canadian Ninjas had hands in eliminating each other – with Allison Danger ousting Nicole Matthews before being pinned by Portia Perez – while Cheerleader Melissa pinned singles titleholder Sweet Saraya to end the match, which could see them cross paths again at some point today.

No matches have been announced for volumes 51 and 52, though if yesterday was anything to go by, fans at the Berwyn Eagles Club are in for another treat. As with yesterday, the Ringbelles team is on hand to provide results, as well as photos and thoughts later on. Click the jump to keep up with what’s going on…

SHIMMER volumes 49 & 50 DVD taping results (updated with thoughts on both Vols and photo gallery)

It’s rolled around again. More than 30 female wrestlers have gathered at the Eagles Club in Berwyn, IL for the latest round of DVD tapings for SHIMMER: Women Athletes, which includes the milestone volume 50 later today. A number of matches have been announced, but before we get to that, results from last night…

At yesterday’s AAW show, Athena defeated Nicole Matthews, Kellie Skater & Christina Von Eerie in a four way match where Matthews and Skater spent much of the contest playing a game of one-up by doing moves on Athena, but after it descended into a four way brawl, Athena nailed Nicole with the O-Face for the pinfall. Later on, Sweet Saraya retained the SHIMMER Championship by pinning MsChif following a wild, building-wide brawl which left both women with very visible battle scars. The end came when Truth Martini interfered to spit green mist into the challenger’s eyes.

Today, some matches have been announced. For volume 49, Saraya defends her title against Athena, while the Canadian Ninjas put the SHIMMER Tag Team Championships on the line against LuFisto and Kana. Elsewhere, SHIMMER Originals Mercedes Martinez and MsChif square off in a rematch from volume 20, where MsChif retained the SHIMMER Title in one of the best title defences up to that point. Also on the card, Leva Bates tangles with Kellie Skater, while nCw Femmes Fatales International Champion Kalamity faces Ayako Hamada.

Meanwhile, for volume 50, the SHIMMER Originals of Martinez, MsChif, Allison Danger and Cheerleader Melissa are involved in a 10-woman elimination match – which we are dubbing SHIM-vivor Series II, where teams of five strive to survive – and a “first time in SHIMMER singles bout” will take place, though you can let your minds run riot as to what it will be.

We will be updating results intermittently throughout the day, so keep hitting refresh for results – and after the show, we’ll upload thoughts and maybe some pictures…

In Video: Allysin Kay atop AIW

Allysin Kay hasn’t done too badly for herself this year – Women Superstars Uncensored Tag Team Champion with Sassy Stephie, riding high in SHINE with Taylor Made, and dominating Absolute Intense Wrestling‘s women’s division as its champion.

Having already successfully defending the pink belt over Mia Yim and Crazy Mary Dobson, it was announced earlier this week that Kay will put her title up against top contender KC Warfield on November 23 in Cleveland, OH.

The match we bring to you today is the first of Kay’s defences from after winning the vacant title in a match against Yim, putting the belt up against Canadian Jennifer Blake. The pair met with the championship on the line on the second night of the JT Lightning Invitational Tournament on May 12. (more…)

SHINE 4 Results – Saraya retains, thanks to Martinez & Rain

It’s time to Shine once again with SHINE 4, live and direct from The Orpheum in Ybor City, FL.

With big sister promotion SHIMMER Women Athletes running next weekend in Berwyn, IL, SHINE 4 kicks off what looks like a busy few weeks for SHIMMER Champion Saraya Knight, who debuts on this show, making her first defence of the SHIMMER Title against former WWE Women’s Champion Jazz. If she gets past Jazz, she will defend against MsChif at next Friday’s AAW show in Berwyn before arriving at SHIMMER next Saturday and Sunday. Saraya can’t afford to look past Jazz, who is headlining her fourth straight SHINE show.

Also on the show, the maniacal Jessicka Havok takes on Leva Bates, Made in Sin reform to take on the debuting team of Davina Rose & Shazza McKenzie, while Reby Sky returns to SHINE to take on the challenge of Australia’s “Rate Tank” Kellie Skater.

In addition, Mercedes Martinez takes on future SHIMMER debutante Santana Garrett, Rain battles Christina Von Eerie, Kimberly *promises* to get her first win over veteran Brandi Wine, and it’s a SHINE debut for “The Fighting Irish” Rhia O’Reilly as she takes on Su Yung.

Fight Like A Girl: Annie Social

It is a busy time on the east coast of the United States over the next week with two all-female wrestling shows taking place 60 miles apart within the span of three days. The first is the Bombshell Ladies Of Wrestling iPPV on Thursday night, which generated a lot of buzz (admittedly mostly negative) for its acronym. Second is Women Superstars Uncensored, which returns after a four month absence under the umbrella of new owners Beyond Wrestling with a stacked card. Annie Social – who returns to Fight Like A Girl after being on 13 months ago – features in high-profile encounters on both cards, and discusses both shows during this interview.

Annie also talks about her opponent on Thursday, Alexxis Nevaeh, tag team partner Kimber Lee, why she is upset with WSU’s fans, and a jaw-dropping story where she survived a drive-by shooting. She also talks about that Bombshell Ladies Of Wrestling abbreviation – and if you think about it, we’re all used to the shortening of Total Nonstop Action now…

WSU Full Steam Ahead card is complete

Women Superstars Uncensored has been rearranging furniture since being taken over by Beyond Wrestling following the Uncensored Rumble V iPPV back in June.

At the time, we gave our initial impressions of the acquisition, and also spoke to new owner Drew Cordiero as part of episode 42 of the Women Of Wrestling Podcast – and left feeling impressed with the direction being taken, especially since we had issues in the past with small attendance numbers and poor production of the iPPVs. Next month, WSU returns to Deer Park, NY for its first card under the Beyond Wrestling umbrella as part of three events over the span of one day – with one of those being an interpromotional show, followed by the comeback WSU event, entitled Full Steam Ahead. SHINE 3 results – now with thoughts and images

SHINE Wrestling hits iPPV this evening for its third monthly instalment with nods to the past, present and future.

For the past, the promotion is honouring stars from yesteryear; the present is the card (which we will run down in just a moment); and the future is the announcement on the show which will affect both SHINE and big sister promotion SHIMMER: Women Athletes.

The big matches on the show see Jazz take on Rain, while Jazz’s rival Mercedes Martinez meets Jayme Jameson (plus Jazz and Martinez are banned from interacting), and Jessicka Havok steps into the ring against Mia Yim. Elsewhere, four women make their debuts (get more info on them here), and Made In Sin engage in their first singles matches in the promotion.

You can order the iPPV by clicking here, or you can click the jump and keep hitting refresh to see the results as they happen. (more…)

Ringbelles Roundup (28 August 2012) – the Aussies & Kiwis, April Davids & more

There has been a lot of focus on the continent of Australasia recently, and most of it centres around one kick-happy wrestler from New Zealand.

As we have documented, Evie has been catapulted into everyone’s line of sight, winning both the IPW Women’s and PWWA Championships in the space of seven days – the first in a triple threat match with Megan-Kate and Britenay, and the latter against Jessie McKay just last Saturday.

When approached for comment, the Auckland resident told Ringbelles:

Winning the IPW Women’s Title and then the PWWA Interim Title… words can’t pinpoint the feelings I felt over those nights. I was extremely emotional… a few tears were shed, and it definitely is the highlight of my career to date. I came away from both matches battered and bruised, but it was all worth it in the end… after five years, I finally feel like a champion.

The fans have also been rad… I can’t believe how much support I received through those tournaments, both online and in person. It was amazing!

AIW Girls Night Out 7 live coverage (Kay vs Yim III)

You’ll have seen the nose break, you’ll have watched the no holds barred rematch, you’ll have listened to Allysin Kay on the Women of Wrestling Podcast – and now the waiting is over, as Absolute Intense Wrestling presents Girls Night Out 7, headlined by a championship match in a Steel Cage, as Allysin Kay defends against Mia Yim in the match to settle their rivalry.

That’s far from all on the show, as we get a potentially show-stealing matchup between Sara Del Rey and Hailey Hatred – both rightly recognised as two of the absolute best in the world today. Courtney Rush makes her AIW debut, taking on Veda Scott – who has a history of strong performances at these GNO events, while Ohio’s own Sassy Stephie welcomes another Canadian, Leah Von Dutch – who is also making her GNO debut in singles action. Click through after the cut for live results. (more…)

In Video: Allysin Kay vs Mia Yim – Before The Cage

So, this weekend is AIW‘s Girls Night Out 7 show from Cleveland, OH – a show headlined with a relative rarity in women’s wrestling – a Steel Cage match. Locked inside the cage will be the AIW Absolute Women’s Champion Allysin Kay (not coincidentally our most recent guest on the Women of Wrestling Podcast) and her top contender, Mia Yim.

As an appetiser for the show, AIW have gone and released the full video of their main event match at Girls Night Out 6 on YouTube. Bonus. We’ve already reviewed the full show a couple of months ago, and it’s the best GNO event that we’ve seen to date. Yim & Kay battled in the main event for the vacant AIW championship in an unsanctioned, no-rules grudge match – a grudge based on the fact that Kay’s nose was broken all over her face by Yim in January. If you haven’t listened yet, listen to Kay’s thoughts on the whole feud on the Podcast – where, amongst other things, she dropped the following threat… “This cage match is going to make machetes & light tubes seem merciful”

We’ll cover Girls Night Out 7 this weekend on the website, but until then, click through past the cut and whet your appetite for destruction…

WOW Podcast #44 with Allysin Kay

Episode 44 with Allysin Kay

The Women of Wrestling Podcast returns with the third and final member of the fearsome Midwest Militia, Allysin Kay. Kay has had a breakout year in 2012, thanks in large part to her exploits in AIW, where she started the year with a broken nose, came back to win their women’s title, and next weekend will conclude the trilogy as she defends her title in a Cage Match against the woman who broke her nose – Mia Yim. Also, fresh off Shine Wrestling‘s iPPV debut last weekend, Kay talks about tagging up with Taylor Made, and the classic tag team that inspires her work. We talk her early wrestling fandom and her initial favourites, her fantastic and distinctive tattoo, meeting and working with Jessicka Havok, thoughts on the future of WSU under new management, working NCW Femmes Fatales last month and being already announced for SHIMMER this October, accents, twitter, craziness and more. A lot of fun.

Ringbelles Roundup (24 July 2012) – SHINE, PWWA, Raw 1000 & more

There was been a lot of talk about SHINE Wrestling in the lead up to the first Internet PPV on Friday night, and plenty more afterward, with plenty of comments from both people who where there, as well as fans who watched online.

For that reason, we asked Joe Vitale – who was at the Oprheum in Ybor City, FL – what he thought of the show, as he got to experience the atmosphere first hand. Below are some of his reactions:

“I like the setup for the show; it felt like a good introduction to the characters and styles of the workers and it was nice that almost all of the ladies came off like individuals to be interested in rather than “Brunette girl 1″… I really like how well the heels interacted with the crowd, Jayme Jamison and Allyson Kay/Taylor Made made fans out of my non-wrestling friends.”

Overall, one can view the show as being a big success, which built to a tremendous crescendo with Sara Del Rey falling to Jazz in the main event. Nikki Roxx and Rain may only wrestle on a limited basis these days but had a good outing which shows that they have a lot to offer both in in-ring activities but also knowledge that they can impart onto younger talent. Mercedes Martinez and Leva Bates had a tidy outing that set Martinez up for an apparent match against Jazz on SHINE 2 on August 17, and Bates proved that despite wearing a Spider-Man outfit, slinging webs and hanging upside down, there is a wrestler in there who can work, and is ready to get serious. SHINE 1 results – updated with images and thoughts

Take a look at the front page – there’s a lot to do with SHINE on there, and with good reason, as this could be the start of something pretty exciting. Monthly Internet pay-per-views featuring women’s wrestling – it’s an enticing prospect, and we at Ringbelles are looking forward to seeing what happens.

It all kicks off tonight with SHINE 1 from the Orpheum in Ybor City, Florida (order here), headlined by the “Queen of Wrestling” Sara Del Rey meeting the “Female Fighting Phenom” Jazz, and also features seven other matches. We urge you to buy the iPPV to check it out for yourselves, or watch the replay on Video On Demand – but if you can’t, we have the results and goings-on after the jump, and will also have some thoughts on the show coming too. Keep refreshing the page for results and developments as they happen as we jump into SHINE… (more…)

Aussie invasion in HONOUR

Australia’s Shazza McKenzie is one of the two big interviews featured in HONOUR Magazine this month. The bouncing cheerleader discusses starting out, her relationships with Madison Eagles, Jessie McKay and Veda Scott, wrestling in SHIMMER and also being a part of the Captured Beauty forum – which is the same group which produces this very e-mag. Also, fellow Aussie and NHB Girls founder Rhi Lockwood discusses her love for wrestling and talks about supporting your local promotions.

Allysin Kay is the cover girl, and talks about the Midwest Militia, working in WSU, her feelings on Mia Yim and the broken nose she suffered earlier this year. It’s a pretty candid chat, so it’s worth a read.

Elsewhere, there is a look at Maxine‘s departure from WWE, LuFisto celebrating 15 years in wrestling, intergender rivalries, double standards between women and men, and a preview of SHINE later this month. Click the picture to jump to the magazine and have a read.

nCw Femmes Fatales IX results

A big card of action takes place tonight in Montreal, Quebec, Canada as nCw Femmes Fatales IX strikes. The International Championship is on the line, a grudge spanning two promotions could be settled, and the most fearsome trio in women’s wrestling today head north of the border.

Current titleholder Kalamity faces her toughest test yet when she faces the challenge of Sara Del Rey, while former champion LuFisto takes on Mercedes Martinez following their brawl at Femmes Fatales VIII in March and subsequent encounter at WSU’s Uncensored Rumble V last month, where LuFisto cost Martinez the WSU Championship in the main event Casket Match against Jessicka Havok. And speaking of Havok, she and her Midwest Militia partners Sassy Stephie and Allysin Kay take on Courtney Rush and two mystery partners.

Elsewhere, Kc Spinelli meets former SHIMMER Champion Cheerleader Melissa, Sweet Cherrie and Cherry Bomb take on the Canadian Ninjas of Portia Perez and Nicole Matthews with the winners earning SHIMMER Tag Team Championship match at Femmes Fatales X on November 3 against whoever the titleholders are at that time.
