WSU Blood And Thunder – what’s whetting our appetite?

WSU Saraya Knight Mickie KnucklesThis Saturday sees a Women Superstars Uncensored Championship match which is a year in the making. Ever since October 13 last year, Lexxus has been claiming that she is the uncrowned champion after losing a 3-way title match at Full Steam Ahead where Jessicka Havok beat she and Alicia, though it was the latter challenger who took the fall. Claiming she was never beaten, she ran her mouth claiming she deserved another crack at the title. In two days at Blood and Thunder in Voorhees, NJ, the former WSU Tag Team Champion gets her opportunity to put up or shut up after beating Nevaeh at August’s Uncensored Rumble VI show to become the top contender.

As for Havok, it’s her first title defence since February’s An Ultraviolent Affair event where she defeated Athena to retain the championship. Since then, she has defeated Sami Callihan (who substituted for an injured LuFisto) at Queen and King of the Ring in May and missed the Uncensored Rumble due to travel issues.

Considering Lexxus’ big talking and the amount of time since Havok’s last defence, we’re expecting the main event to be an entertaining outing, and it’s one of the big matches we’re looking forward to at Blood and Thunder. Let’s take a look at the others… (more…)

AIW Girls Night Out 9 & 10: Allysin Kay & Veda Scott battle twice, Nikki Storm debuts, plus more!

AIW Girls Night OutFight Season is underway with aplomb. Earlier today, Bellatrix kickstarted proceedings with their Bellatrix 7 show, featuring an interpromotional series of matches between Bellatrix and SHIMMER – but even as that show was wrapping up, Ohio’s Absolute Intense Wrestling was already underway with their double DVD tapings of Girls Night Out 9 & 10.

Headlined by the ongoing rivalry between Absolute Women’s Champion Allysin Kay and challenger Veda Scott, the two were to meet twice across the tapings, once in a “dream partners” tag match on GNO 9 and finally, conclusively for the title as the main event of GNO 10. Wa talked about the show with Allysin Kay a few days ago on the Women of Wrestling Podcast here on the site, but you can also check out some really strong interview videos uploaded (Veda | Allysin) to YouTube in the last few days also to get a taste of the rivalry.

Full results from both shows after the cut. (more…)

WOW Podcast #62 with Allysin Kay

WOW Allysin Kay

Episode 62 with Allysin Kay

When we spoke to Allysin Kay last year for Episode 44 of the Podcast, she was the AIW Absolute Women’s Champion and was on the verge of defending her title in a big challenge at an upcoming Girls Night Out show. Fast forward to now, Kay’s *still* undefeated as champion and on the verge of *another* major title defence at Girls Night Out 9 & 10 this weekend. In the interim she’s been wrestling literally all over the place, including just returning Stateside from a three month tour of Japan. As well as looking forward to Girls Night Out this weekend, we talk the Japan excursion, how it came about, the culture and language issues of an extended stay in Japan (not to mention the humidity and constant fear of Earthquakes). We find out her favourite match from her trip, and her favourite match she saw as a fan, discuss this Instagram picture, and chow down on just where the best steak is in Tokyo. We talk her return to SHINE this past weekend, and the ongoing absence of Taylor Made at SHINE, the (presumably) upcoming reunion of Made In Sin at SHIMMER later in the month, her favourite SHIMMER moments to date, the apparently cursed tag team feud in WSU vs Annie Social & Kimber Lee, her mouthpiece assisted match with Cheerleader Melissa at NCW:Femmes Fatales and her upcoming return to Beyond Wrestling. Oh, and racist Japanese people… Oh Allysin

Bumper card announced for SHINE 14 – Rain v Hiroyo Matsumoto, plus Jessicka Havok v Saraya Knight

SHINE logoSHINE Wrestling‘s internationally-spiced cards have grown to be a big attraction, and SHINE 14 will be one of those occasions. Brought about because of the global talent flying into the US for the SHIMMER tapings on October 19-20, the next show at Ybor City, FL on October 25 will see the debut of joshi talent, an ongoing feud settled and a SHIMMER Tag Team Title defence, should the champions make it through four DVD tapings the week before.

Headlining the event is Rain defending the SHINE Championship against Hiroyo Matsumoto, while fellow joshi Tomoka Nakagawa is set to defend the SHIMMER Tag straps alongside her 3G partner Kellie Skater against Rain’s Valkyrie stablemates Allysin Kay and Ivelisse Velez, who defeated Amazing Kong and Jessicka Havok last Friday as part of the excellent SHINE 13 card. Ringbelles Roundup (1 October 2013) – Bellatrix, AIW, Brie Bella, news, results & more

Bellatrix v SHIMMERFollowing an introduction to the festivities with Insane Championship Wrestling: Fierce Females, SHINE 13 and Pro Wrestling Syndicate Bombshells 7 over the last week or so, Open Female Fight Season is upon us and it kicks off with a bumper Sunday, with big cards on both sides of the Atlantic.

The festivities kick off in the UK with an interpromotional card which will also see the culmination of a bitter blood feud…

A long-running score will be settled at Sunday’s Bellatrix: Female Warriors show in Norwich, England when Saraya Knight takes on her heated rival Cheerleader Melissa at part of the Bellatrix 7: Bellatrix v SHIMMER event.

The pair have battled on both sides of the Atlantic and traded the SHIMMER Championship over the last 18 months, with their most recent contest taking place inside a steel cage in New Jersey in April in the main event of SHIMMER Volume 53, where Melissa regained the title. However, their battles began in the English county of Norfolk, with the pair meeting for the first time at ChickFight VII in Great Yarmouth in January 2007. That match was won by Melissa via referee stoppage when Saraya got her neck tied up in the ropes.

In the five contests between them, each has won two, and there has been one no-contest – and it is the inconclusive match from June 17, 2007 in Colchester which is the reason for the bad blood. (more…)

SHINE 13 Report: A return to form as Rain defeats Angelina, Allysin Kay returns, Nikki Storm debuts and much more. (Now updated with thoughts and pictures)

Shine13posterTonight at the Orpheum in Ybor City, SHINE Wrestling presents SHINE 13, as we continue the title reign of the Radiant One, Rain – as well as the countdown to her eventual retirement. With only two more SHINE shows to go (October and December) before Rain’s proposed retirement date at the end of 2013, Angelina Love is in prime position to take the title from the woman she’s gone 1-1 with in SHINE so far. If you remember, at SHINE 7, Rain defeated Angelina Love with an Implant DDT, while Angelina returned the favour via a Botox Injection at SHINE 10.

If Valkyrie didn’t have enough to worry about regarding the SHINE Championship, they’re also possibly facing an issue surrounding the returning Allysin Kay. Valkyrie, SHINE and many fans have missed the AK47 since her “suspension” and subsequent tour of Japan – but with her opponent in tonight’s tag team match turning out to be one of her best friends – Jessicka Havok – the question remains, is Kay loyal to Valkyrie or Havok? J-Hav has already posed the question. Tonight we get the answer.

There are also debuts on SHINE 13 for Scotland’s Nikki Storm, who starts an extended US tour (which will take in Fight Season shows for AIW, WSU and SHIMMER Women Athletes), up-and-coming Canadian Xandra Bale and the always entertaining Nevaeh. Check out the entire card after the jump, watch live at WWNLive.com as well as live results as they come in. (more…)

Ringbelles Roundup (10 September 2013) – Total Divas domination, Diva left in the cold, news & more

Naomi Natalya Brie Bella WWETotal Divas is directing the Divas division in WWE at the moment.

Last Friday’s match between Naomi and Brie Bella on SmackDown ended in a no-contest when some of the Divas – AJ Lee, Aksana, Layla & Alicia Fox – who aren’t a part of Total Divas came down to the ring and attacked the seven stars of the E! Show. On Raw last night, AJ’s opponents at this Sunday’s Night Of Champions show – Natalya, Brie & Naomi – defeated Aksana, Layla & Fox in a six woman tag when Alicia tapped out to Natalya’s Sharpshooter. In addition, Naomi defeated AJ Lee in non-title matches in Canada at the weekend, and if you were a betting man, you would put money on the Divas Championship changing hands this Sunday.

The show is after a happy ending to its season extension/season two run due to start later this year, following the conclusion of the current season which ends next week with Natalya’s marriage to TJ Wilson (Tyson Kidd). Seeing as all three of AJ’s challengers are babyfaces for this angle – and are the three most likeable women on the show – it is perfectly plausible that any one of them could walk out with the belt. Ringbelles Roundup (3 September 2013) – Wrestling internationally, Total Divas review, news & more

Savannah Summers AIWFemale Fight Season is creeping up on us and as more talent is announced for the shows, one thing that jumps out is the number of wrestlers who are making this first trips abroad to face new people, venture into new locker rooms and expand their horizons.

Let’s start with the women who are travelling to the United States. As we have mentioned on this website in the past, Nikki Storm is making the trip from Scotland to take bookings for SHINE, Women Superstars Uncensored and Absolute Intense Wrestling in the month of October, and was announced for SHIMMER this evening too. She is certainly making the most of her time in the US by working for as many of the major women’s groups as possible. Networking her way around the country will also help to attain new contacts, connect with new audiences and shift a lot of merchandise. Joining her as another fresh face in the US will be Australia’s Savannah Summers, who will also be part of AIW’s Girls Night Out tapings on October 6. Her announcement was somewhat out of the blue, as this is the first time that the six year pro will venture outside of her native country and ply her trade elsewhere. Considering her experience and character – her heel work is pretty great and she’s also likeable as a babyface – she should create a good impression with the crowd in Cleveland, OH. (more…)

Wrestling… YAY! – The love affair with SHINE

Rain v JHavSHINE 12 has been and gone, and I got to thinking of the last 12 months or so on the promotion.

Before SHINE Wrestling existed, my connection to the wrestling overseas was limited. I mean, sure I had DVDs but it wasn’t really the same. The events came recommended to me always with the tag line of “You really have to see xxx v xxx it’s AMAZING!” Nothing is quite like experiencing a liveshow with your friends.

That’s the beautiful thing about SHINE – the concept that I can watch this show with the guys from Ringbelles, who are in a completely different country and we can all react to the same thing at the same time is incredible. I know, technology right? Whodathunkit? I can chatter about the shows excitedly on social media (mostly Twitter) and connect with so many like-minded (or not so!) individuals around the world, which makes the shows so much more exciting for me.

SHINE weekends have become a highlight for me. Catch up with good friends and watch great wrestling. Thank goodness for Skype & Twitter – I’d be totally lost without them. (more…)

A good half year for… a few others

A few others

So, you’ve seen our main six picks in our 2013 “A good half year for…” series – Kellie Skater, Ayumi Kurihara, Mickie James, Heidi Lovelace, Nikki Storm & Madison Eagles – and you can see even from those picks that we made our decisions on different criteria, and we stand by our picks as women who have all raised their stock since the turn of the year. However, the selection process of choosing a final six for full write-ups meant drawing up a longlist of potential picks, and we figured we’d wrap up the series by sharing a few of those women we thought had a great six months, but fell just below making the final six. Click through after the page break for… a few others. (more…)

Ringbelles Roundup (2 July 2013) – Diva and Knockouts’ gimmicks plus a look at NXT, news & more

doinkThe untimely death of Matt Osbourne got me to thinking. In his role as the original Doink The Clown, he took what immediately appeared to be a bit of a lame gimmick and turned it into something quite special – a dark character with a painted on smile, exacting sadistic actions to wrestlers and fans alike, while also working as a skilled technician in the ring. Check out his matches with Mr Perfect and Bret Hart for some of his best work in mid-1993.

Osbourne’s run as Doink came to an end in the latter part of the year as he was fired from the WWF for re-occurring drug issues, and with it, the character then becoming a lame babyface which lacked the edge or sparkle of the original portrayal. However, it was a great example of making chicken salad out of chicken guano, and is relevant to a couple of women who are plying their trade in WWE today.

Before we get to that, it’s worth pointing out some of the other gimmicks in mainstream wrestling over the years – including which had mileage and which crashed and burned… (more…)

AIW doubles up on Girls Night Out this October

GNO910Ohio’s Absolute Intense Wrestling has announced the return of its successful Girls Night Out all-female shows – only this time with a twist, announcing not one, but *two* new shows, taped back to back on October 6th. Both shows will emanate from the regular home of AIW, Turner’s Hall in Cleveland – and one of the shows will feature an already announced main event of Allysin Kay defending the AIW Absolute Women’s Championship against top contender Veda Scott.

Kay, who won the title at Girls Night Out 6 on April 15, 2012 has been on a tear in the promotion, standing head and shoulders above everyone else to date. Veda Scott comes into GNO 9 & 10 not only as one half of Hope & Change (the current AIW Tag Team Champions, with Gregory Iron), but also having won two matches in one night at Girls Night Out 8 (including a four way ladder match) to secure this shot.

With SHIMMER already announcing a weekend of shows on October 19th in Berwyn, IL, Bellatrix 7 set for Oct 6th in the Norwich, UK and (one would anticipate, at least) shows to be announced from NCW: Femmes Fatales and SHINE Wrestling around that same time, October looks like it might end up as quite the month for fans of female grappling.

Cherry Bomb wins Girls Grand Prix 2 – now updated with thoughts

Cherry Bomb Girls Grand Prix 2cw FancastAfter a successful first outing last year, it seemed inevitable that Squared Circle Wrestling would hold another Girls Grand Prix. Last night in Binghamton, NY, 2CW held Girls Grand Prix 2, with the lineup being a who’s who of established and promising stars from the women’s wrestling world.

Rachel Summerlyn won the first tournament last year – last night, Cherry Bomb, who was beaten in the first round last year by Portia Perez, won the whole thing by taking out Courtney Rush, Nikki Roxx and Allysin Kay & Jessicka Havok in the final match which became a triple threat affair with no DQ and no count out stipulations after the Havok Death Machine inserted herself into the contest.

We have the results, but Dave Muscarella - who attended the show – described it as “great” and insists the there was not a single bad match on the card, which is certainly encouraging. Click after the jump to see how Cherry Bomb earned the trophy… (more…)

SHINE 10 results – title tournament qualifiers, and is Valkyrie’s grip on SHINE starting to weaken?

SHINE 10 posterWe know four of the competitors who will be part of the tournament to determine the first SHINE Champion. Saraya Knight, Jazz, Rain and Jessicka Havok all booked their slot by winning their qualifiers at SHINE 9 last month. However, one of those women is putting her position on the line this evening – Havok will face Portia Perez after the two engaged in a Twitter spat.

Elsewhere on the card, the remaining four title tournament slots will be determined, with Nikki Roxx, Allysin Kay, Leva Bates, Taylor Made, Mia Yim, Mercedes Martinez, Santana Garrett and Kimberly all vying to get into the tournament for the title. Rain will also wrestle Angelina Love again in a match where her Valkyrie cohorts will be banned from ringside, and Daffney – who quit as a ring announcer to become a manager again – will start to size up potential clients.

You can watch the event live on iPPV by clicking here – alternatively, click the jump and follow as we provide live results. (more…)

WSU iPPV results – Athena & AR Fox crowned Queen & King of the Ring; Havok/Callihan have wild brawl

18 Athena WSUIt’s an intergender kind of day at Women Superstars Uncensored today, who run their annual intergender tag team tournament (renamed this year to Queen and King of the Ring rather than the other way around) alongside Combat Zone Wrestling as part of a double header – and after eschewing iPPV for the first couple of shows under the new management, this is the first new era WSU show available live worldwide, through RFVideo.

On top of the eight team tournament, we have non tourney action featuring members of the Midwest Militia – both in non-title action – with Tag Champs Allysin Kay & Sassy Stephie facing Spirit Champion Marti Belle and Lexxus, and reigning WSU World Champion Jessicka Havok taking on “The Callihan Death Machine” Sami Callihan. Havok was apparently given carte blanche to pick her opponent for the match, following the withdrawal of LuFisto – who is currently out with injury. If you haven’t had a chance to listen, LuFisto addresses her current situation exclusively with us on the Women of Wrestling Podcast, and issued a promo directed at Jessicka Havok this week, which you can view on YouTube. You can still order the show at CZWIPPV.com, but we’ll have live results after the cut. (more…)

Remaining SHINE title tournament qualifiers announced for SHINE 10

SHINE 10 rosterAt SHINE 9, four women – Saraya Knight, Rain, Jessicka Havok & Jazz – qualified for the promotion’s upcoming title tournament due to take place in July. On May 24, the remaining four women will compete to qualify as part of the SHINE 10 lineup.

Fresh off her victory in the main event of SHINE 9, Leva Bates will look to get into the title hunt when she faces Valkyrie member Taylor Made. Elsewhere, the loser of the Arkham Asylum Cage Match, Kimberly, will look to get back to winning ways when she takes on SHINE’s rising star and ultimate baby face Santana Garrett.

Mercedes Martinez – who seems to have incurred the ire of Daffney through her actions at SHINE 9 where she gatecrashed and spoiled Nikki Roxx‘s birthday celebration – wrestles Mia Yim, who was part of the main event of SHINE 8 and was a sixth of the trios tag at SHINE 9, while Roxx rounds off the last of the qualifying matches, when she steps into the ring against Taylor’s Made In Sin tag team partner and fellow Valkyrie member Allysin Kay. Jessicka Havok booked in intergender match at WSU Queen & King of the Ring iPPV

Jessicka Havok Sami CallihanWomen Superstars Uncensored was presented with a problem in its preparation for May 11′s Queen and King of the Ring iPPV. Its title match between WSU Champion Jessicka Havok and LuFisto – which came about after Havok defeated Athena and LuFisto beat Mercedes Martinez at An Ultraviolent Affair on February 9 – had to be scrapped due to the Super Hardcore Anime requiring surgery for a fractured kneecap, suffered during the SHIMMER Volume 53 iPPV on April 6.

With most of the roster tied up in the mixed tag team tournament, the promotion decided to get creative with an opponent for Havok, so WSU released a video with the titleholder throwing down a challenge based on what happened at the Combat Zone Wrestling show on the evening following An Ultraviolent Affair, and she wanted to take on LuFisto’s opponent in the mixed tag team match which took place.

Havok and Sami Callihan had an exchange or two in the match, and that wasn’t forgotten by the WSU Champion. In the video released last week, Havok lamented WSU for not finding her a challenger, then got proactive by calling out CZW’s Best of the Best XI tournament winner, though it would be six days of tentative waiting before the challenge was accepted, meaning that next Saturday in Voorhees, NJ, Jessicka Havok will take on Sami Callihan in a non-title, interpromotional, intergender affair. In Video: A few words for Allison Danger…

758235963A week ago, Allison Danger announced her retirement from in-ring competition during the taping of SHIMMER Vol 57 in an emotional moment that didn’t leave a dry eye in the house.

Of course she’s not leaving wrestling for good – she’ll continue in a backstage role at SHIMMER – and while everybody there that weekend was fortunate enough to be able to say their own personal thanks to the woman herself, we kinda figured that Danger deserved something more. So, without her knowledge, we started recording video messages across the weekend with the idea of putting them together as a lasting tribute to someone who has meant so much to so many.

Now that the woman herself has had a chance to see the video, we happily share our video with the Ringbelles readers. Some messages are heartfelt, some are funny… some are, well, you’ll see… (more…)

SHINE 9 results: Eagles vs Havok steals the show, plus Leva finally commits Kimberly to Arkham Asylum

Screen Shot 2013-04-20 at 05.27.13SHINE Wrestling returns to iPPV this evening with what is without doubt the most stacked card in company history – featuring, as it does, a Steel Cage Match main event to (presumably) cap off the long standing rivalry between Leva Bates & Kimberly, which currently stands at 2-2 after four matches (Bates won at SHINE 3, then after Kimberly turned heel at SHINE 5, she won their rematch at SHINE 6. On SHINE 7, Leva won a Last Woman Standing match, only to see Kimberly win the Fans Bring The Weapons/I Quit match at SHINE 8).

The show also sees the first Qualifying round of the SHINE Title tournament, which takes place at SHINE 11 in July – with eight hopefuls looking to advance to the single elimination tournament. In a first time ever dream match, Madison Eagles takes on Jessicka Havok, while Sweet Saraya Knight battles Su Yung. VALKYRIE stable members Rain & Ivelisse Velez will also see tournament action, against Jazz & Angelina Love respectively. And that’s not even all. Jump through after the page break to follow results as they come in from the Orpheum in Ybor City, FL. (more…)

SHIMMER Volumes 56 & 57 DVD taping results (now updated with thoughts and photos)

SHIMMER

After the events of yesterday, SHIMMER returns for its DVD tapings for volumes 56 and 57.

Expected to continue on from yesterday’s tapings include the quest by the Global Green Gangsters to secure another Tag Team Title shot at the Canadian Ninjas; Saraya Knight‘s reign of terror is being curbed by the officials; meanwhile, Jessicka Havok wants to leave more bodies in her wake, and Cheerleader Melissa is looking to retain the SHIMMER Championship. Also, these tapings mark the final matches for Allison Danger, who retires from the ring on volume 57.

As with yesterday, we will bring you results after the jump, along with pictures on thoughts on the show in due course. For now, click into the results and enjoy. (more…)
