Insane Championship Wrestling Fierce Females presents its first show of 2014 in Glasgow, Scotland this evening, where a new #1 contender to Kay Lee Ray‘s Scottish Championship will be decided. Viper, Debbie Sharpe, Bete Noire and Sammii Jayne will compete in a four-woman tournament to see who will earn the next crack at the title.
Elsewhere, Kasey and Leah Owens are in singles matches against Carmel Jacob and Sara respectively, with Fiona Fraser taking on newcomer Courtney.
We’re back for a second day of DVD tapings for SHIMMER, with questions being raised about LuFisto‘s current intentions. After being denied another chance at the SHIMMER title in the near future while Cheerleader Melissa still holds the belt, she came out to try to help Yumi Ohka win the strap in the main event of volume 64, but was rebuffed for her actions. The pair came to blows after Melissa retained the championship, leading to LuFisto and Ohka meeting as part of the volume 65 card today.
Elsewhere, Melissa defends the title against Mia Yim following Yim’s wins over Hikaru Shida and Mercedes Martinez, while Shida and Martinez will face off in a first-time ever match. Following her walking out of their tag team match yesterday, Veda Scott will wrestle Leva Bates in a rematch from volume 62, but with more hostile feelings abound.
Meanwhile in tag team action, Kimber Lee and Cherry Bomb square off against Ray and Leon, while Kellie Skater and Tomoka Nakagawa defend the Tag Team Championship against Saraya Knight and Rhia O’Reilly.
The bumper weekend of DVD tapings that is SHIMMER is upon us with more than 30 of the world’s top female talent descending on the Eagles Club in Berwyn, IL for what will be around 40 matches over the next two days.
Following the controversial ending of SHIMMER 62 last week in New Orleans, LA, LuFisto will team up with tag partner Kana to take on Mercedes Martinez and SHIMMER Champion Cheerleader Melissa, looking to get some revenge following her loss in her title challenge, and to possibly secure another crack at the championship at some point over the weekend.
Elsewhere, we may see friction within the Canadian Ninjas following Nicole Matthews‘ decision to team with Madison Eagles to unsuccessfully challenge the Global Green Gangsters for the Tag Team Championship last week – a move which raised the hackles of Portia Perez, who tweeted her displeasure at the development.
You can read more about what we could see over the next four DVD tapings by looking at this week’s Roundup, but we will also be bringing you live results courtesy of the Twitters of Reid Allen and Dave Muscarella, who we thank for their constant great work in getting the word out to the rest of us – and Stew will be back after the tapings for some in-depth thoughts. The WWE Divas Championship is put on the line for the first time in its five year history at a WrestleMania as AJ Lee defends the belt against Natalya, Naomi, Cameron, Eva Marie, Summer Rae, Nikki Bella, Brie Bella, Aksana, Layla, Emma, Alicia Fox, Rosa Mendes and even her own bodyguard Tamina Snuka as part of the first ever Vicki Guerrero Divas Invitational.
• After ducking out of defending her title against Naomi on the March 24 episode of Raw by deliberately getting counted out, Guerrero decided to punish (and screw) AJ by booking her in a 14-woman match at WrestleMania XXX against every member of the Divas roster.
• Little was known about the rules until last Monday, when Guerrero declared that the contest would have all the women in play at one time with one pinball deciding the winner.
• AJ Lee has held the Divas Title since June 16, 2013, where she defeated Kaitlyn to win the belt. (more…)
SHIMMER returns to iPPV for its second straight WrestleMania weekend with SHIMMER 62, headlined with a titanic encounter between reigning champion Cheerleader Melissa and challenger LuFisto.
After their bloody match at volume 60 last October which was won by Melissa and LuFisto getting a pinball win over her during a tag match the following week at NCW Femmes Fatales XIII, the stakes have been raised to their highest point with this title match will be decided under two out of three falls rules and will have a mammoth 90 minute time limit. You can see more about the background to the match by clicking here.
Also in action will be Tag Team Champions Kellie Skater and Tomoka Nakagawa along with Madison Eagles, Nicole Matthews, Athena, Mercedes Martinez, Mia Yim, Heidi Lovelace, Nikki Storm, Hikaru Shida, Kimber Lee, Veda Scott and SHIMMER debutantes Candice LeRae and Ivelisse Velez – the latter of whom was announced yesterday evening after the revelation that Barbi Hayden had withdrawn from the show.
We will be watching the show live – and you can do the same by clicking here to order the event – but if you aren’t in a position to catch it, we will have results updated live from New Orleans, LA after the jump. (more…)
WrestleMania weekend is underway in New Orleans, Louisiana – as is the WWNLive Experience, and on this afternoon’s “A Wrestling Odyssey” show, we’ve seen two title defences from the incumbent champions of SHINE Wrestling as part of a supershow which also included talents from CZW, FIP and WILDCAT Wrestling – and at the end of the day, both SHINE Champion Ivelisse Velez and SHINE Tag Champions Mia Yim & Leva Bates (The Lucha Sisters) held onto their titles.
Ivelisse’s match with former WWE Women’s Champion and ECW original Jazz was a very technical (and for the most part ground-based) affair. It was a rematch from SHINE 9, where Jazz defeated Ivelisse in a SHINE Championship Qualifier (prior to Jazz’s injury keeping her out of the tournament), though unlike that match which had the underlying story of a rib injury to Ivelisse, this match was wrestled straight-up and competitive. Ivelisse had one hairy moment where she was unable to get any spring back from the middle rope on what was probably an attempt at a twisting crossbody, but the fans were sufficiently supportive that they stayed with the match – and indeed heavily cheered when Ivelisse hit her next high risk move. Velez eventually wrapped up the victory with a Vertigo kick to win what was clearly an emotional match for her. As referenced briefly on commentary, she has recently been dealing with the tragic passing of a family member (for which we send our condolences), not to mention her gear getting misdirected in transit and only reaching the building shortly before bell time – so a chance to get in the ring and perform was probably a blessing. Post match, the two embraced. (more…)
Madison Rayne puts her TNA Knockouts Championship on the line against former titleholder Gail Kim as part of the Lockdown card in Miami, FL.
• Rayne returned to TNA in December last year and went after her former friend and Tag Team Championship partner, though no explanation was really given as to why they had a problem with each other – even though a storyline was ready to go.
• Madison marked her comeback after having her first child by defeating Gail to win the Knockouts Title at the Genesis card held on Impack Wrestling in January.
• The pair fought during TNA’s tour of the UK, with Kim earning a shot at the title by beating Rayne in a street fight on the February 20 episode of the show.
• The match was announced for Lockdown, meaning it would be held inside a steel cage. (more…)
It was successful defence number 6 for the SHIMMER Tag Team Champions in the main event of Joshi 4 Hope V in Japan earlier today. The Global Green Gangsters (Tomoka Nakagawa & Kellie Skater) held onto their belts by defeating Madison Eagles & Evie when Nakagawa scored the pin on the former SHIMMER Champion with the 120% Schoolboy.
In the semi-final match on the show at Shin-kiba 1st RING in Tokyo, former SHIMMER doubles champion Misaki Ohata defeated Ice Ribbon‘s Tsukushi, who was standing in for an injured Manami Katsu. Elsewhere, there were wins for Leon, Kagetsu, and Alpha Female (twice). The full results are posted after the jump, courtesy of the translated tweets from Youji Kawauchi.
Joshi 4 Hope revealed on its Facebook page that it does not have a return date, but thanked everyone for their participation on the show.
Finally, a quick word on SHIMMER – the promotion says it will announce the main event of its Volume 62 show on April 5 in New Orleans, LA at some point this week. When it is made public, we will let you know. (more…)
Dozens of wrestlers from across the UK and Europe are in Norwich, England today for Bellatrix 8, which boasts four championship matches and a mammoth 30-woman rumble match to determine the next contender for the RQW European Women’s Championship. That belt is currently in the possession of Sammi Baynz after she won the title at the last show – she will defend it this evening against Greece’s Blue Nikita.
Elsewhere, Saraya Knight defends the IndyGurlz Australia Title against Penelope, Erin Angel puts the Bellatrix British Championship on the line against Violet O’Hara, and Liberty challenges Courtney Rush for the Bellatrix World crown – and Liberty talked about that match and the history behind it in our latest Fight Like A Girl interview.
Unlike previous Bellatrix shows, this one is going to be available as a Video On Demand in due course – for all the results as they happen, click the jump. (more…)
After an encouraging start in January, LCW Roses returns for its second show in Leicester, England today. Dubbed War of the Roses, it is headlined by Nikki Storm against Amazon Ayesha Ray – a match that came about because Storm won the Roses Rumble match in controversial circumstances. The winner of the Rumble was meant to hand-pick their opponent for the main event of this show, but because of the shady ending where Storm snuck back into the ring after being eliminated because no referee saw her being thrown out, her punishment was to have her opponents picked for her. That will be Amazon – a woman who has spent the last few months in Japan, and discusses it and more in our most recent Women Of Wrestling Podcast.
Elsewhere on the show, we have the LCW Roses debuts of Leah Owens, Nixon, Bete Noire, Lana Austin, Dragonita, Sakura Lily, Kirsty Love and Freya Frenzy. Click the jump to see the results as they happen. (more…)
SHINE 17 live results: Tag Team Title tournament; Ivelisse Velez defends SHINE Title against Mercedes Martinez
After crowning a singles champion at SHINE 11 last June, SHINE adds another title to the promotion by establishing Tag Team Champions. Eight teams are vying for the gold – some established, some new, some who are relatively fresh-faced and some who have years of ring time. We have taken a look at the more viable contenders, though it is really anybody’s guess as to who will walk out of SHINE 17 with the championship.
Elsewhere, new SHINE Champion Ivelisse Velez puts her belt on the line against Mercedes Martinez, though the titleholder is likely to have an eye on the other non-tournament match on the card where the woman who replaced her in Valkyrie – Serena Deeb – takes on Angelina Love.
Paige and Emma had the stage to showcase their talents, and they did not disappoint. As part of NXT‘s ArRIVAL live show on the new WWE Network, the Briton made the Australian tap out with a Scorpion Crosslock to retain the NXT Women’s Championship.
After going for their respective finishers early and seeing their efforts thwarted, the action swayed back and forth with Paige nailing her big knees with Emma draped in the ropes, while the challenger responded with the Dil-Emma and the Emma Sandwich before the titleholder could respond with a surfboard submission attempt. Taking to the ropes, the champion attempted a superplex but it was countered into a sunset power bomb by Emma for a tantalising near-fall, leading to an amusing “Better than Batista” chant while Paige got a long two count of her own with her Paige Turner finisher before locking in the Scorpion Crosslock – which you can see to your right – for the submission victory. AJ Lee defends the WWE Divas Championship against a mystery opponent at Elimination Chamber – that challenger turned out to be Cameron.
• There isn’t really much of one, considering this is an impromptu match. AJ had a pop at Cameron’s partner Naomi before she found out who her opponent was going to be, saying that she would not have minded taking on a new challenger considering she had beaten all of her competition, but said that Naomi had to go and “break her face”, referring to the fractured eye socket that she suffered a few weeks ago thanks to the knee of Aksana.
• AJ then found out that her opponent would be the Funkadactyl, who danced her way to the ring before getting serious by throwing her pom poms at the titleholder. (more…)
Less than 24 hours before WSU present “Mutiny” on iPPV (order here), a number of stars turned out for Secret Show #3, headlined by Jessicka Havok‘s WSU World Title defence against Portugal’s Shanna. It was the only announced match for the otherwise pretty secret show – so jump after the cut for full results from the event. (more…)
Leicester Championship Wrestling presents its first show of its all-female offshoot promotion today. The Roses Rumble will feature five matches as well as a 15-woman Rumble main event, with the Erin Angel v Kay Lee Ray v Nikki Storm 3-way determining who enters the contest first (the one who takes the fall) and last (the winner of the match).
Another standout match is expected to be Rhia O’Reilly facing Addy Starr, while the remaining three contests have newer faces stepping into the ring with more established British talent. LCW trainee Shauna Shay has her first ever match against a female opponent today when she steps into the ring with Carmel Jacob; Felony (accompanied by her 6’3″ boyfriend Barricade) battles Pollyanna Peppers, while Viper teams up with rookie Jenna to face the Pin-Up Princesses team of Nadia Sapphire and Violet Vendetta – and you can hear Sapphire talk about this match in our recent My Name Is interview.
We’re at the event in Leicester, England to bring you all the results as they happen. Click the jump to keep up with goings-on, and join us later for thoughts on LCW Roses’ debut show. (more…)
Valkyrie‘s biggest challenge happens tonight at SHINE 16 – though instead of it being a new challenger looking to take the faction down, the challenge lays from within. After receiving advice from many sides, Ivelisse Velez takes on her stablemate Rain for the Radiant One’s SHINE Championship. Teammates Allysin Kay and Taylor Made advised her to back out, Rain acted diplomatic about it and VP Lexie Fyfe said she received the opportunity because she deserved it and not because of some underhanded plan to destroy Valkyrie from within. However, that is a possible outcome of this match, regardless of who leaves the Orpheum in Ybor City, FL as the champion. Together, we’ll see what goes down.
Elsewhere on the card, Kay and Jessicka Havok collide for a second straight month, though this match will be No Disqualification. After last month’s no-contest, we will definitely have a winner here, as the two former best friends collide with no sympathy, no compassion and no mercy to be seen.
The other big match sees Nevaeh face Leva Bates in a straight wrestling match following their Friday The 13th Massacre Match last month. Both have been sniping back and forth at each other since Nevaeh threw down the challenge – so much so that both were legitimately reprimanded by SHINE for their conduct online. With tensions running high, this could be a show-stealer.
Also, Serena Deeb makes her SHINE debut against Santana Garrett, Angelina Love faces Leah Von Dutch, and Daffney says she has a new team to square off against SNS Express members Sassy Stephie and Jessie Belle Smothers.
Natalya challenges AJ Lee for the WWE Divas Title at TLC, looking to regain the championship which she lost in January 2011.
• Natalya made AJ tap out to the Sharpshooter to win the 14 Diva Survivor Series match last month, then pinned AJ on the December 2 episode of Raw in a 6-Diva tag match. As a result, she was named the top contender for the Divas Championship.
• The pair fought on PPV earlier this year as part of a 4-way which also involved Naomi and Brie Bella at Night Of Champions, though this is Natalya’s first singles title challenge on PPV in three years – the last one was at Bragging Rights in October 2010, though she won her only Divas belt in a handicap match against Lay-Cool at that year’s Survivor Series.
• Before the match, AJ cut a promo saying she is the number one Diva, while the Divas division, the WWE Universe and the Total Divas show are all jokes. She then promised to retain the title and be the one who’s laughing. (more…)
SHINE 15 live results: Retiring Rain defends against Amazing Kong, plus Jessicka Havok v Allysin Kay
Lots of goings-on at the final SHINE show of the year taking place this evening. At the top of the card is Rain (who has made it very clear that this contest at SHINE 15 will be her last ever, and you can read an overview of her career here) defending the SHINE Championship against Amazing Kong, who was handpicked by Daffney as the Valkyrie leader’s next challenger. Despite it all, Rain is adamant that she will retire with the title by her side.
The other half of the show’s double main event pits former friends and tag team partners against each other, as Jessicka Havok and Allysin Kay collide after Kay turned on her friend on the last show, causing Havok to lose her grudge match to Saraya Knight.
Elsewhere, Leva Bates and Nevaeh compete in a Friday The 13th Massacre Match, Ivelisse Velez and Mia Yim square off, and the SNS Express members Sassy Stephie & Jessie Belle Smothers take on the American Sweethearts of Amber O’Neal & Santana Garrett, with the losing team being forced to break up. You see the rest of the card by clicking here.
There is still time to order the event at WWNLive.com, and you can click here to jump to the appropriate page. We will be providing live results after the jump, and will follow it up with thoughts soon afterward. (more…)
In what is the Survivor Series match with the most participants since the 10 on 10 tag team elimination match from the 1988 offering, the Total Divas cast of Natalya, Eva Marie, Jojo, Cameron, Naomi and Nikki & Brie Bella take on Divas Champion AJ Lee, Kaitlyn, Alicia Fox, Rosa Mendes, Tamina Snuka, Aksana & Summer Rae in a 7 on 7 elimination match.
• From a long-term standpoint, AJ Lee has been squabbling with the Total Divas cast since the Raw after SummerSlam where she verbally berated them and turned them all baby face as a result. Since then, she has turned back the title challenges from Naomi, Natalya and Brie Bella.
• Short-term, the 14 women had a shoving contest on last week’s Raw during a game of Musical Chairs which set up this match. No, really.
• Before the match, AJ delivered a pep talk to her teammates which didn’t go well and only served to separate herself from the others – barring Tamina, who stayed loyal. Essentially, AJ was telling her partners that they were overlooked for Total Divas selection and should be annoyed about it. (more…)
Summer Rae makes her WWE main roster in-ring debut at Hell in a Cell as part of a mixed tag team match alongside Fandango against Natalya & The Great Khali, while AJ Lee puts the Divas Championship on the line against Brie Bella once again.
The Great Khali & Natalya v Fandango & Summer Rae
• The two couples have squared off in dance-offs earlier in the year, but the most recent hostilities took place on last Friday’s SmackDown. Summer and Natalya exchange words and punches outside the ring during the singles match between Fandango and Khali, which led to this “bonus match” on the pay-per-view. (more…)
After shows from Bellatrix, AIW, WSU, SHIMMER and SHINE, the Fight Season curtain falls tonight in Montreal, Quebec as NCW: Femmes Fatales presents their thirteenth show. Thirteen is an unlucky number in many cultures, and there has certainly been an unlucky streak running through this show, first with the injury to Courtney Rush, then with the injury to her replacement Xandra Bale – and then only this week the last minute withdrawal of Saraya Knight due to a family emergency. However, one could conceivably argue that the final card actually ended up with an even stronger main event after the events of SHIMMER last weekend. While certainly the feud between Saraya and LuFisto in Montreal was hot, having Cheerleader Melissa opposite LuFisto in tag team competition just a week after they battled for the SHIMMER Championship in a bloody war – and with Melissa having Mercedes as her partner, just as she did last weekend in SHIMMER – the stakes are higher than ever. Also on the show will be a tantalising three-way with Angie Skye, Kimber Lee & Christina Von Eerie, a “Strap/Lumberjill match” between Portia Perez & Pink Flash Kira, and more. We’ve got live results from the Centre Sportif St-Barthélemy in suburban Montreal just after the cut. (more…)
SHINE 14 Live Results: International showcase featuring Rain vs Hiroyo Matsumoto; SHIMMER Tag Title defence; Havok vs Knight II
Fight Season enters its closing stretch this weekend with events from SHINE and NCW:Femmes Fatales bringing down the curtain on this intense month of cards. SHINE this month features a heavy international focus this month, as SHINE 14 features wrestlers from Japan, Europe and Australia all making their last stops in the US before heading back to their respective regions. Hiroyo Matsumoto will be challenging Rain for her SHINE Championship in one of the champion’s final bouts before retirement, while Allysin Kay gets another crack at the SHIMMER Tag Team Titles (she was unsuccessful last weekend along with her Made In Sin partner Taylor Made), as she teams with Valkyrie teammate Ivelisse to challenge Kellie Skater & Tomoka Nakagawa, aka 3G (Global Green Gangsters). Also on the show, highlights are likely to include Jessicka Havok & Saraya Knight continuing (or possibly concluding) their rivalry with a Last Woman Standing match, while Amazing Kong will go one-on-one with Madison Eagles. There is plenty more in prospect too, so we suggest you order the show on iPPV via WWN – but if you can’t do that for some reason, we’ve got live results as they come in from Ybor City right after the cut. (more…)
