Hiroyo Matsumoto announced for SHIMMER; will also debut at Femmes Fatales

One of the most anticipated series of announcements in the build-up to a SHIMMER weekend is which joshi wrestlers will be making the trip from Japan to Berwyn, IL. The first of those names has been announced today, with it being revealed that Hiroyo Matsumoto will return to the promotion for the tapings on October 27 and 28, and will also be making her Canadian debut the following weekend for nCw Femmes Fatales for their double DVD taping to celebrate their tenth show on November 3.

The 26-year old missed the last tapings, but has kept busy since her last trip to the US last October when she beat Nicole Matthews, Jessie McKay and Kellie Skater and lost to then-SHIMMER Champion Madison Eagles. Back in her homeland, Matsumoto has been earning title opportunities in both Stardom and Oz Academy, though has been unsuccessful in both attempts. The first happened on May 3 when she lost to World Of Stardom titleholder Nanae Takahashi, and was beaten by Chikayo Nagashima in her challenge for the Openweight Championship on August 19, after earning a shot at the belt by beating Tomoka Nakagawa, Mio Shirai and Ran YuYu in an elimination tournament. It hasn’t all been disappointment though, as the 6-year pro won the DDT Ironman Heavymetalweight Championship from on June 10 from Shirai, but lost it on June 13 at an Ice Ribbon show when she slipped on a banana peel (literally) and was pinned by Tsukasa Fujimoto.

“Lady Destroyer” has also aligned herself with Wonder Of Stardom Champion Yuzuki Aikawa‘s Zenryoku Joshi stable after leaving Takahashi’s Nanae Corps groups when she challenged for the World Of Stardom title, and is showing off a more glamorous side as a result, participating in Stardom’s Bikiniing photobook.

It must only be a matter of time until Matsumoto snares a major singles title after winning doubles straps in NEO, Oz Academy, Ice Ribbon and SHIMMER. Could that time be in October in Berwyn? We’ll have to wait and see, but she is on a three-match win streak in the promotion.

As mentioned, she will debut the following Saturday in Montreal for Femmes Fatales, following in the footsteps of fellow joshi stars like Nakagawa, Yumi Ohka and Ayako Hamada. With two tapings taking place on the day, Hiroyo could be busy, and could cause a big smash when she’s there. Well, she is a destroyer, after all…
