The Big News

“The true definition of madness is repeating the same action, over and over, hoping for a different result.”

Without even the slightest hint of irony, Jeff Jarrett used that quote from Albert Einstein on his Twitter. For anyone who may not understand the hilarity based on current events, let’s go back in time:

Last October, Jersey Shore star J-Woww did a one-shot deal for TNA which actually clashed with a new Jersey Shore episode when it was aired, garnered little media attention and cost thousands of dollars. Having not learned their lesson, TMZ reported this last Thursday:

“Former Jersey Shore castmate Angelina Pivarnick is officially returning to TV next month … but there’s also good news — she’ll be in a wrestling ring! So… she could catch a beating and stuff. Sources close to Angelina tells us after a month of negotiations she finally signed a contract with TNA Wrestling earlier this week.
We’re told the “Staten Island Dump” will make her debut in a tag team match involving TNA’s Snooki-a-like… Cookie.”

Removing the element of surprise about her two week appearance, TNA even described that Pivarnick will call out J-Woww on this week’s live episode of Impact for a fight. At least we know what we’ll be missing while we fast-forward it.

Like with J-Woww, we expect this to receive virtually no major media attention, cost TNA money and be forgotten about by everyone except the Knockouts, who will wonder why precious TV time was wasted on this debacle.

And as an added piece of amusement, Pivarnick admitted to downing a cocktail and taking an energy pill before wrestling. So her debut was in an “altered state”. Way to go, TNA.

European-focussed women’s wrestling promotion Pro Wrestling: EVE has revealed how its championship tournament will work for April 8 in Norwich and April 9 in Sudbury… and it’s not your typical single elimination tournament fare. So bear with us, as this may need a little explaining.

The first round features six matches – five of them are four way contests with the sixth being a battle royal involving the 15 women who do not win, giving them a second chance at making it through to round 2. From there, we enter into three quarter-final contests, then two semi-finals (one of which we already know involves Jetta) – and a final. The EVE website has filled us in on the participants in two of the five four-way contests set for April 8. One match will involve Sweet Saraya and Amazon of the WAW Gym, Nikki Storm of the European Empire and Rhia O’Reilly (who has no gym affiliation after splitting with Team Storm partner Becky James, who isn’t booked for the tournament as of press time).

The other match announced is comprised of Britani Knight of the WAW Gym, former tag team partner Melodi, who has no gym affiliation – Jenny Sjodin from the European Empire and a mystery fourth participant, who has been included against the wishes of EVE management, and will not be announced until match-time, giving said participant a distinct advantage against her opponents.

In some ways, the setup (and inclusion of a losers’ bracket) is reminiscent of the IWA: Mid South Ted Petty Invitational events, or the Queen Of The Deathmatches tournaments – of which you can get a flavour by buying the second half of the Pride and Passion set from Highspots.

Add another tag team to the mix for the upcoming SHIMMER tapings on March 26-27. Allison Danger and Leva Bates will be forming a tandem called Regeneration X, based on their shared love for TV show Doctor Who. Said Danger on her Twitter: “I am stoked about joining forces with Bates as we both feel the tag team division needs to be shaken (not stirred) up. Be ready when Regeneration X storms the Eagles Club on March 26th & 27th. It’s gonna be total NERDGASM!”

It means that there are a slew of teams coming for the Canadian Ninjas and their tag team championships, including 3S, the Knight Dynasty, Rachel and Jessica’s Excellent Tag Team and Pretty Bitchin’.

Former WWF Diva Terri “Tori” Poch makes her return to any form of wrestling-related media for close to a decade on May 7, when she appears at the Legends Of The Ring fan signing event at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Monroe, NJ.

Now 43, Poch hasn’t been involved in the wrestling business since being released from her WWF contract in late 2001. She had been off regular WWF TV since January of that year, but was one of the original Tough Enough trainers – though she was let go before the show’s finale and didn’t appear in the final episode.

In her previous guise, Poch – as Terri Power – competed in LPWA and was the company’s final champion before it went under in 1992, and wrestled in All Japan Women the following year. She took a sabbatical from the ring for 6 years before appearing in the WWF as then-Women’s Champion Sable’s obsessed fan Tori, and being defeated by her “idol” at WrestleMania XV. She turned heel later that year, leaving her boyfriend Kane to align herself with X-Pac and D-Generation X – vanishing in mid-2000 to have surgery. Tori returned in January 2001 as a mystery ninja who helped Raven retain his Hardcore Title.
